Who will be in the Conference North next season?
« on: May 14, 2013, 04:03:55 PM »

When will the final list of teams in next seasons Conference North be published?

I can work most of it out myself, but there are one or two questions regarding the more southerly teams.

I don't need to know, but, you know, it's that time of the year when you start making your Away-Trips-Wishlist for the coming season.

Cheers

I expect it to be as above except there will also be Leamington, and Oxford City will move to the south.

Serious problems at Worcester apparently. They might not start next season.

Similar size club to us as well, feel for the fans.

Seems to be complex issues over ground deals in the past rather than player expenditure as well.

Would be a shame to lose Oxford - better to lose Bishops Stortford if only for the reason that Oxford is a better drinking venue.

Leamington would be alright. Been drinking in Leamington Spa a couple of times. Once ended up at a pub with loads of Leamington memorabilia on the walls. It was like the best kind of council estate local. Friendly people. Loads of real ale.

If that list is right a play off place should be an achievable target. There was a pub in Leamington that offered a free T-shirt to anyone who could drink a pint of every draught beer. I not only did it but i went back the next day and did it again.

I worked in Leamington Spa one summer in the early 80s on the construction of the new signal box at the station. Some decent pubs way back then, a strange town, very much one that belongs to the "other side of the tracks" notion, posh as hell on one side then fairly ordinary the other. The old Windmill ground was a fair walk out of town towards Whitnash.

Always depending on the AGM Cup, the following changes of membership can be expected:
AFC Telford, Barrow & Stockport in from BSB Prem; Leamington in from Southern; North Ferriby & Hednesford in from NPL
Chester & Halifax out to Prem; Corby, Droylsden & Hinckley out to EvoStik leagues.
Brackley, Alty, Bradford PA, Boston, Colwyn Bay, Gainsboro, Guiseley, Harrogate, Histon, Solihull, Stalybridge, Vauxhall, Worcester, Workington stay put.
One club moves from North to South. Oxford are geographically the furthest south. Gloucester (at Cheltenham) are next. Bishops Stortford are the third most southern club.
If the league has any sense they will move Stortford because their geographical position on the M11 is ideal for travel to the South & East. I love the reported view from Oxford that they would rather not move into the South as they don't want to get stuck on the London Orbital Car Park (aka M25) every other week & have had little trouble with M40/M6! If the league are pedantic they will insist that Oxford move. In any event Gloucester should stay in the North.

If that pans out I gain Leamington and lose no-one in terms of teams with-in a couple of hours of here.  I'd have 6 matches next year meeting that criteria in BSN which is more than I would in BSP - that's just bizarre when the river Thames runs through my town!

I'd also miss Oxford had good day out

I'm sure I read somewhere that Bishops Stortford were promised a move back after two years.....would certainly suit me to keep Oxford City. The Oxford Gold was wonderful (coach this season just in case) and the sausage barm cake was a little piece of heaven......
