How did the Reserves get on today in winstanley?

I saw on Twitter that they sadly lost, but I don't know any more details.

Edit: After further investigation, Egerton won 3-0.

As above lost 3-0. A bright opening with a chance as a ball whipped across the goal. Egerton then came into it and once they scored they looked the more likely to go on and win.

I do seriously wonder whether there is any point in the club persisting with this Alty Reserves team.

The level they play at is miles below the standard of the National League and this gulf surely signifies that the chances of anyone progressing from the reserves to the first team are remote at best.

Plus you would surely be better off sending out on loan any first team squad fringe players or individals who are returning from injury rather than playing them at such a substandard level.

I presume that the Academy set-up will take precedence in due course.

It would have been good if they could have achieved promotion to the NWCL but of course they don't accept reserve teams. I think quite a few players have gone up to play at that level and the NPL.
I agree with you though that for it to be useful to the first team, we need a side playing at a higher level. Is that the only reason for the reserves?
I would see the academy side as a parallel track. Perhaps one without the physicality of the Cheshire league.
Moving prospects between the two would, imho, give them a better grounding.

PS. Could be wrong though 😉 😂😂

Are we allowed a "nursery club" ? If we scrap the Reserves and set up a new outfit as, say, Altrincham Town, based elsewhere and run as a totally separate enterprise, we could have a worthwhile satellite at a decent level in 5 years from now.

Isn't there a new club set up in Macc? Perhaps a few quid and some lovely red and white striped kits would be all we need to supply???

In fairness I thought that's what we used our relationship with Trafford for?
