MIKE Connett ‘blamed everyone’ except himself for Vics plight, said a player at Thursday’s meeting with the club’s owner.
‘He spent 45 minutes blaming the fans and the people of Northwich, Steve Burr (former manager) for leaving and Neil Redfearn (his successor) for spending £1,600 a week over budget.
‘We pointed out he provided the budget in the first place, but he still insisted it was Neil’s fault.
‘Connett told us the club was going out of existence and that he wasn’t putting any more money in. He claimed it was what the Supporters’ Trust wanted, that they wanted to start again at the bottom.
‘He blamed everyone but himself. Most of us thought it was all bull****.’

The players voted to play in Saturday’s game against Exeter City.
‘We wanted to fullfil our obligations to the supporters and not be the ones to send the club out of existence. Mike Connett said he would pay us some of our wages, but no-one really expected to get anything.
‘He said it was in our hands if we played and he wasn’t bothered either way,’ added the player.
The Chronicle understands the players are now owed one week’s wage.
The chairman had recently put three injured players – Jonny Allan, Mike Welch, who had both broken bones playing for the club, and Lee Steele – on half-wages, but the issue has been overtaken by events.
The team and fans struck an emotional rapport on Saturday, when it seemed as if the Exeter game might be the club’s last.
Northwich were due to be wound-up today (Wednesday) but the club applied to go into administration on Tuesday. This would pave the way for a deal with the Inland Revenue and a possible takeover by the Manchester consortium led by Jim Rushe.
Administration would mean Vics would be docked 10 points and relegation then would be a near certainty.
At the very least it would also mean a stay of execution and Saturday’s game at Grays Athletic and following week’s FA Cup 4th qualifying-round trip to Southport would go ahead.

For me our three main rivals have always been Macc, Vics and Runcorn (in that order), I've never seen the Tameside clubs as serious rivals. Runcorn have reformed and dropped down the leagues, Macc (for the time being) are playing in a higher league, and now Northwich? Football is all about passion - and that is at its highest when you are mixing it with your rivals. It would be a big blow for Alty if the Vics went the same way as Runcorn.
How about a pre-season tournament between Alty, Macc, AFC Vics and Runcorn Linnets?

Takeover Done On Friday!

The takeover of United by Standing Alone Limited will finally be completed on Friday.

The light is finally at the end of the tunnel for Boston United with their future secured after the near completition of one of the longest takeovers in living memory.The takeover plans, which date back to late 2006, look finally to be done on Friday, ahead of the Nationwide Conference AGM in Bournemouth on Saturday.With just the i's to dot and t's to cross, chief executive Barrie Pierpoint is looking forward to attending the meeting with the takeover complete."I'm like everyone else, I'm just waiting for Standing Alone and Lavaflow to finalise things so we can push on," he told the Lincolnshire Echo."I want to go Bournemouth with the takeover having been completed."It's been very frustrating and has taken a lot longer than we would have liked."To be honest, I have not known a takeover to be so drawn out before - and it has put us a long way behind our rivals."But we're near the end now.

At an FA Appeal Board meeting today, the points deduction imposed on AFC Wimbledon by the Ryman League was reduced from 18 points to three points.

The points had been deducted after the club fielded an ineligible player, Jermaine Darlington, who had previously played for Cardiff City and had not obtained international clearance before representing AFC Wimbledon.

The Appeal Board ruled that, although the Ryman League had not misinterpreted its rules on eligibility and the decision to deduct 18 points was wholly in accordance with those rules, given the specific and unusual circumstances the deduction of 18 points was excessive.

The £400 fine imposed by the league was not reduced.
Go figure!!

Being pedantic, abour 11 million people live within a 50 mile radius of Manchester (over twice the population of Scotland).I'd be surprised if 1 million people lived wihin a 50 mile radius of Weymouth.
Jerome John wasn't a bad keeper considering his hight. I seem to remember he got the train from London for Alty matches but once scrounged a lift back to London on the Away team coach.
