One of his many excuses for their defeat against the mighty Harrogate Railway.... "the pitch was a disgrace" :o -  Did Harrogate drive a train over the pitch several times Dave?;)

I'm sure that I can remember Jeff Johnson heading a goal from that set piece move way back when, or perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me

Indeed, the whole point of a good cup run is to make as much money as we can and raise the profile of the club. You never know, those floating supporters or supporters of other local clubs may just be tempted to come back again on a regular basis. A crowd of just Alty fans (1000?) plus 700 Millwall fans would be a disaster, therefore the more"United and City fans" the better (as long as they all behave!)
If we get a result ("anything can happen in the cup") then we can dream of more big pay days - look at the difference that sort of cash has made to Burton and Exeter - but for the time being its all about maximising profit, putting the club back on the football map, the excitement of the FA cup and another chapter in Alty's history.

The gate reciepts are split 50/50 between ourselves and the opposition after certain costs have been accounted for such as policing and the away teams expenses.

This from the FA Cup competition rules:

23. PROCEEDS OF MATCHES PRIOR TO THE SEMI-FINALS

(a) The net gate receipts due from a match (except replayed matches in consequence of a breach of the Rules) shall be the total ticket sales for the match less VAT, the travelling expenses of the Visiting Club, the fees and expenses of the Match Officials, and other match expenses allowed under the Competition Rules (which include costs relating to gate attendants, turnstile operators, stewards, weather reports, police charges, floodlighting in accordance with the Competition Rules, contributions to the costs of First Aid Helpers and any costs relating to clearing the ground of snow and water provided the Visiting Club is consulted beforehand on the approximate costs). Any shortfalls in receipts are the responsibility of the home club and are not to be shared. The Council shall have the power from time to time to issue instructions as to what shall and shall not be allowed as a match expense.

(b) Net gate receipts shall be divided as follows:

(i) In matches prior to the Third Round of the Competition Proper (other than replayed matches in the Competition Proper), the net gate receipts of each match shall be divided equally between the competing Clubs.

Altrincham FC First Team / The Observer - Road to Wembley
« on: October 28, 2007, 10:16:23 AM »
It was mentioned a while back that Kendall were the latest team in the Observers "Road to Wembley" series. That being the case, I take it that we now carry the baton. Does anyone know when this article appears?

Altrincham FC First Team / Stimson new Millwall manager?

Rumours are that Mark Stimson is to be appointed as new Lions boss next week - obviously looking for a manager who has experience against Alty ;)

where will it be played lads

is moss lane big enough for a game that big

anyways gud luck

cheers daz

I'd be amazed if it wasn't played at Moss Lane. It depends on what the Police and relevant organisations decide is safe. FA insist that you use your own ground unless there are safety considerations

Altrincham FC First Team / All Ticket?
« on: October 27, 2007, 06:35:48 PM »
If I understand Mark the Millwall fan correctly, tickets for away supporters will only be sold to season ticket holders. In order to prevent away supporters accessing the home end, will it be neccesary to make the whole game ticket only. I remember the club (or police?) adopting this policy against Wigan a few years back ( a few Alty fans who lived in the Wigan area haad trouble getting tickets for the home section.) I mention this as I suspect an all ticket game will have a negative effect on the attendance - those floating supporters who "can't be arsed" to get a ticket in advance.

We'll be the main game on MOTD probably, if it's not on TV.

Our away results don't reflect our form, we're starting to come into our own now. Southend away we were crap, but apart from that, we haven't done to bad.

I expect a good game, but I still expect us to put 2 or 3 past you.

I'll go for 1-3.

Unlike our opponents in the last round, I think there are few Alty fans who would expect us to beat a team two divisions higher, and beat Millwall, but we'll give it a good go! Conference football is very different to the old "plucky part-timers" of years gone by. Although we are one of the few semi-pro teams left in the Conference, we are used to playing full time teams every week so there isn't the gulf in fitness that used to come into play. Quality, however, is a different matter.

I notice that Millwall have yet to win away from home (at least in the league) - not that our home form is much to get excited about! Nailed on draw ;)
