Altrincham FC First Team / predicted end of season table.
« on: March 02, 2008, 07:37:52 PM »
This link was posted on the Weymouth forum:
http://www.footballwebpages.co.....amp;sort=6

Shows that we will lose out by one point - could be a squeaky bum, winner takes all game down at Weymouth. Lets hope we can get plenty of points on the board by then. 39 points to stay up anyone?

edit - bollocks, can't get the link to work!

Ken "bite your ears" McKenna could dish it out.

Altrincham FC First Team / Stats
« on: February 15, 2008, 09:50:04 PM »
Not been on the old confguide.com site since the death of its forum (it's still very dead), however it does contain some good stats http://stats.confguide.com/dom/ENG/teams/Altrincham.html
The form guide shows how much of a turn around we have had since the new year. Ranking 23rd for the month of December and then 9th for Jan and 5th (after two games) so far for Feb.

Singing "we'll never play you again" has a nasty habit of coming back to bite you on the a*se - just ask Kiddy fans!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Points target?
« on: February 11, 2008, 07:41:48 AM »
It's rare for a team to get less than a point per game and not get relegated, based on that I'd say the target this season would be 44/45 pts.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: where wud we be if season started in january

Bit pointless other than to give an indication of the improvement of form, but since the start of the year we have averaged 1.57 pts per game (11 points from 7 games). During the previous 23 games we only averaged 0.65 points per game. If you multiply 1.57 by the 30 games we have played we would have 47 points which would put is in joint 7th place with FGR.
This is more relevant, though - the current form guide http://www.fansfocus.com/football/conference/-formguide.php?comp=5 over the last 6 games shows us in 14 place (the bottom 4 + Weymouth occupy the bottom 5 places). Our next two opponents are below us in terms of form, win those and we will be well clear of the scrap at the bottom anyway.
Ok, Ok, I know the above is a bit anoraky, but what else do you do at 7 o'clock on Sunday morning whilst the kids (why don't they ever get up on their own at 7 on school days!!) are watching cbeebies

Good news. I suspect it would get a bit complicated if we were to extend the loan a third time - when is the deadline for loan signings at the end of the season?

I have not so fond memories of that long walk back to the coaches from Bramhall Lane - as a 5" not-much teenager pinned against a wall by some ape-like Utd fans. I was offered the choice of handing over my scarf or "getting your f***ing head kicked in". I went home minus the scarf.

Just like some others have posted, Barry Howard was my hero as a spotty 14 year-old stood on the Golf Road (I was the spotty one, not Barry!) Many, many fond memories of skillful dribbles, great goals and pin-point crosses onto John Rodgers head. His goal Vs Rotherham was my fave.
I'm going to stick my neck out here but I would rate Barry ahead of Showler (just).

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: the BIGGEST alty game?
« on: January 26, 2008, 11:11:14 AM »
first one that springs to mind was the second rotherham game.
the gazelle will tell you i ended in tears that day. i think the reason was that it was the first time i had seen us not only beat league opposition, but totally deserve it, be the better team by a mile, dominate the whole match and never look in trouble
(see also sheff utd replay)
My two favourite Alty wins of all time - Rotherham and Sheff Utd. We were awsome at Rotherham - Barry Howards wonder goal and Stepney's penalty save, Kingy barging their keeper into the net and claiming a goal. We out classed Sheff Utd at Moss Lane.
Great memories

For me
Biggest in terms of highest profile would be the Liverpool game - best team in the world at the time
Biggest as in best achievement - Birmingham were a very poor side strugling at the bottom of the 1st division (a great win none the less) but the draws at Everton and Tottenham were, for me,  greater achievements.
Most important - without doubt the win against Runcorn to qualify for the conf North, but I agree that the wins against Nuneaton and Kettering in the play-offs were more important than the Eastborne final.

« on: January 19, 2008, 06:10:04 PM »
A much improved performace today. For the first 60 mins we looked liked we belong in this league rather than a team boxing above it's weight. York were a very good side and came at us like an express train (coming from York, that shouldn't be suprising) and we did well to hold on at the end despite some very tired legs on a heavy pitch.
Over all far more plusses than negatives - yes it's disapointing to lose a 2 goal lead but if we continue to play like today we will stay up.
