Diagnosed with motor neurone disease, see main site, what a bloody horrible thing to happen to anyone.
-
News like this puts football into perspective... very sad news. We wish him and his family well. :(
-
Proof, if ever it was needed, that life just isn't fair.
A true Alty legend and a damn fine bloke as well.
I hope we can all support any events arranged as much as possible.
-
My thoughts and best wishes go to him and his family, sad news.
-
This has genuinely upset me. It's one of the most horrendous afflictions anybody can suffer. When it hits a 38 year old father of three the effect is too painful to contemplate - and when that man is one of ourt heroes, a 110% honest pro who sweated blood for the club, it should make every single one of us forget our sniping at petty issues, and count our blessings.
-
Sorry to hear this bad news , all best wishes to to Mark and his family

Very best wishes to Mark and his family.
-
Very sorry to have to hear the sad news about Mark
Our thoughts are with you and your family and friends
Ray & Jill
-
I never really saw Mark play, but from the words of the fans, you all can't speak highly enough of him and regard him as a club legend. For those reasons I wish Mark all the best and hope alot of money is raised in the Tranmere game for his benefit.
-
when somting like this strikes not just a person it affects his entire world (ie friends and family) i deal myself with people wo have the said ailment and it is a difficult illness to come to terms with , it really does put things into prospective with petty squables and disagreements i read up on here, but i think all members of this forum should show there support for "mad dog" and his family and wish them all the best in the world
-
Thoughts are with this sad story all the best mark
-
Completely shocked by this. Bad things happening to the people who least deserve them. Thoughts with Mark and his family.
-
Yes a true Alty legend, very sad to hear this.
-
I am shocked and very upset. I wish Mark and his family al the very best.
-
This news has upset me. Mark Maddox is a total legend and hero of mine.
He has always stayed in touch with Altys progress and has always offered to help with anything to do with the fans.
One of the nicest people I have ever met, a gentleman and all round ace person.
I was not going to come back for an friendlies and save my money to try and get to more league games this season but will be doing my utmost to get back for the Tranmere game.
All my very best wishes to Mark and his family.
-
This is just horrible news about one of all of our favourite players of all time who joked about getting legend status but earned it over his 300+ appearances for alty.
July 23rd is in my diary. I wish Mad Dog and his family all the best in staving off the effects of this horrible disease.
-
Can I suggest someone puts the tranmere match as an event on facebook when plans are finalised and it's confirmed?....I'd do it myself but it's not really my place and I'm sure someone else could do a better job...I know I have several friends on fb who aren't even alty fans but I could presuade to attend...
-
Absolutely gutted to hear this terrible news. A great player, fantastic attitude,Alty legend and a genuinely top man. All the best to Mark and his family.
-
Very sad news, and i like all alty fans am very sorry to hear this.
-
Awful awful news for Mark and his young family. Its times like this that put things into perspective. Its good to see his extended Alty fc family are there for him.
-
Very sad news, and I like all alty fans am very sorry to hear this.
Agreed absolutely. Came back from a few days' holiday to find this awful news - truly devastating.
-
stunned.
terrible news.
-
One of my all time favourites is mad dog!!!!!
Keep going Mark, fight it hard!
-
Like everybody else, very upset to hear this terrible news. EVERYBODY needs to get to the Tranmere match and show their support for Mark and his family.
-
Best wishes Mark, a true Alty legend and a great man.
-
Very best wishes Mark for the hard battle ahead.
-
Best wishes Mark, we are all with you.
100% player.
Bry
-
Wretched and cruel news, indeed.
Best wishes to Mark and his family.
If ever there was an Alty player who deserves our support at this difficult time, it's Mark Maddox.
-
Correct Cult. A magnificent servant of the club and a true, true gentleman.
-
Terribly sad news, my thoughts go out to Mark and family.

This bloke is not only a legend to all the fans but a legend to all the players in the dressing room who played along side him. He was always a great crack in the dressing room and a massive influence to everything on and off the pitch as far as players were concerned. This game needs to be attended and not taken as a normal pre season friendly. As a club it would mean so much to him and his family just to show support, forget the money side of it. Mads is a great lad, and to me a great friend, one of those you stay in touch with all your life. I am gutted for him and gutted I am working on UTD's USA tour so cant be there, but I will be sending my family down to support him. Please, please, please tell friends and relatives to come to this game as he was a massive part of this club during really difficult years. WE LOVE YOU MAD DOG.

Rod,
We know what we as fans think of Mad Dog and the posts on here show that quite clearly I think.
To know now in what esteem the players hold him as well shows what a true Alty Legend he really is - Thank you from a fan for sharing this!

Having read what Rod Thornley posted I have a tear in my eye. Thanks Rod.

For those of us who can't make the game what is the best way to contribute?
It also says so much about Rod and Mark the words that Rod has kindly added to this tragic thread.
-
I sent Mad Dog a text and he replied with what I can only say brought a tear to my eye (both of them in fact) and summed up the bloke to me. So selfless and always thinking about others.
I have booked the room at Guest House Warrington and will be back to see Mark and watch the Alty.
-
As brave as a lion, both on and off the pitch.
-
Has anything been decided by the club as to what the fundraiser will be ? :) im just a curious person
-
I'm 'bumping' this topic as I think it should stay on Page one of the forum to recognise the legend that is Mark 'Mad Dog' Maddox
Apologies if this causes anyone an issue
-
Have made a sticky topic so it will do just that..

Cheers Ecky

Just thought I'd post a couple of my memories of Mark when he was a player here:
That goal at Leigh in the FA Trophy and the photo of him running to all the Alty fans - it's one of my favourite ever moments as an Alty fan.
His overhead kick consolation goal at Bishop Auckland in the Trophy. A terrible game but a superb moment all the same.
The equaliser against Darlington in the FA Cup in 2001. What a header that was!!
Also, when Mark briefly joined Barrow in 1998 I remember him walking towards the tunnel at Holker Street at half time (I think it was the Peter Swailes Shield game) and the Alty supporters all clapped when he walked past. He thanked everyone for the good natured applause and you could see that it meant a lot to him that we'd not booed/heckled him.
Just a few brief moments in the career of a great man.
-
One of the nicest men I have ever met in football, it is a bad bit of news. Wish Mark well, and will definately be there on 23rd.
The honestly of the man was amazing too. Remember him stupidly getting sent off at Exeter, and felt he let everyone down he apologised in his programme notes for the next game.
Didn't he score the winning penalty in the FA Trophy shoot out against Kettering after a 3-3 draw?
-
oh the FA Trophy overhead kick. I couldnt attend the game and was never sure if this was just a myth to wind me up for not going but alas it is true :)
Leigh is the one that stands out for me ... By a long shot.
Plus the time I was in my dads car after he had picked me up from Moss Lane and as we were sat in traffic outside the ground a certain 'Mad Dog' slammed both hands on the bonnet and shouted towards me ... I laughed and waved .. My Dad just looked shocked and was delighted I knew the mad man (or dog) on the bonnet :) - as I said LEGEND.... I told my dad about coming back up for the Tranmere game and described him as the footballer who did the slam on the bonnet and he remembered him straight away.. ha ha

This is very distressing news and I wish Mark and his family all the very best. Does this disease know what it is taking on ?, because Mad dog will be uncompromising in his fight against it, just like he was on the pitch in every crunching tackle and each towering header.

Very touching words and reaction from Mr Rowley, I think sums up all our feelings.
-
Just a thought? Maybe swap the colin little banner/image for a mad dog one? Even if it's just temporary
-
Absolutely devastated by this news, during his time playing for Alty Mark was my favourite player. My 21st birthday present was a signed shirt of his - I was delighted! I loved that Mark, and pretty much the whole team at that time, would join the fans in the bar after matches - it was such a great atmosphere! I think my favourite Maddog moment was also the Leigh game! I will definitely be there on the 23rd - and willing to help in anyway required.
Best wishes Mads, hope to see you on the 23rd!xxx

Hello all
I would just like to echo Rods comments. Mads gained the respect of team mates, opponents and fans alike for his non nonsense approach to the game and it's only to the odd injured striker who would have a bad word to say about him haha
All the staff and playoff players where devastated by this news when we found out leading up to the reunion a number of months ago. The reunion itself was both enjoyable to be back together again but very hard knowing what Mads was going through.
After that night a few of the players spoke about what support could be given and an a match was mentioned but knowing what a proud man Mads is it was felt it would have to be a TESTIMONIAL match as reward for his service to the club and not just because of his illness. Plus we new Mads was and still is trying to shelter Sonny his eldest son from the news for as long as possible.
The fact that it has been announced as a benefit match now will increase the attendance as I know players, managers and fans of others clubs will be attending to show there support for Mads but i know Mads would like to see the match as his TESTIMONIAL.
Mads hasn't been on the forum himself which is understandable as it's hard enough for us to read the posts but I do know that a number of people have been passing on the messages of support of which he is very grateful & humbled.
So let's get behind the LEGENDS TESTIMONIAL as I'm sure we all will.
-
Mark Maddox is one of the few past players who could command the respect we are seeing from all who know him or, like me, just cheered him on as a fan.
It is obvious from the comments posted by Rod and Eddie how much he means to his team mates.
I wish Mark well in his fight against this terrible disease and know that if his exploits on the pitch are anything to go by the disease has a hard fight on its hands.

The Tranmere game would normally involve them in sending a reserve/youth team along. We've always enjoyed a good relationship with them, right back to the days in the 50's when we played their reserve team in the Cheshire County League.
Is there any chance that, their being aware of our intentions to make it a testimonial to a much loved member of the family that is Altrincham FC, they could be persuaded to send their strongest team on this occasion ? If we could publicise that this would be happening, it would increase the attendance even further.
We all want to see Moss Lane packed out for this one, and provide an atmosphere that will leave Mad Dog in no doubt about the love and respect every one of us has for him.
-
When Karen told me about this around christmas time, I had to come home and tell Bandy. Seeing him crumpled on the living room floor in tears was one of the worst things to see. I cant put into words how we feel about Mads other than to say we are honoured to know him, and it was an honour for Bandy to play alongside him.
We are there on the 23rd, Bandy has already told his new club he won't be playing in their friendly that day. We wouldn't miss it for the world. My parents and brother are coming, as their memories too are of the Mads era, and they don't want to be anywhere else on that day.
As Rod and Eddie have already said, the players from that time hold Mark in such high esteem, he has the heart of a lion, and will fight this with as much courage and diginty as he can. Let's help him and his family as they deal with this cruel blow, and make as much as possible for a true legend.

I note that we are due to play a Manchester City XI the Saturday before the Trannmere game, in the normal scheme of things you'd assume this would get a much bigger gate than a game against Trannmere. I'm sure this has been discussed in the club already but any thought given to switching Marks game to the City match?
-
Not often that Jezza and I concur but please could anyone make this an event or something on Facebook?

I'll do one... i was however waiting to see what the after match thing was?
what is the event being called?

that's a good plan to wait - sorry!
I'm just trying to find every possible method to try to get people to come to the game

Its a good idea, and ive been debating whether to make one - The important thing is everybody invited their entire contact list, and then ask them to "click attend" even if theyre not because that way it appears in more news feeds = more free publicity.
I think the FB posters as profile pictures worked well in the past,
I'll try and pull one together about the game itself then when the club annouce details about the post-match event another one can be made
its been on the back of both local papers ;D

Good point. A colleague of mine is very pally with the Tranmere manager. I'll certainly have a word and see if some influence can be exerted. If so, rest assured it will get maximum publicity.
-
I have only just seenn this terrible news- gave everthing for this club- thoughts are with him and all the family at this terrible time
-
I know that not everyone want their situations published for the whole world to see, but I wonder if the likes of local bbc and Granada are being asked to advertise the game on 23rd July. This is probably the most important game for a long time and the more people we get the better.
-
I think some caution needs to be exercised as I read somewhere that Mark was trying to conceal the situation from his son for the time being.
-
Although I never saw Mark play, I have heard what a top guy he is. I'll be there for the Tranmere game.

Pleased to read on the Club site this morning that Tranmere will indeed bring their full first team, and are publicising too. This is going to be a very special day for one hell of a special guy.

I'm absolutely gutted to hear this awful news! Mark Maddox is a great guy and I am honoured to be a friend of his! Mark is a big character and when I first met him in 2004 he was a towering figure! Not forgetting I was only 18! I remember thinking about him then, I don't want to get on the wrong side of him! But once I got to know him he was sound, as he and the other scousers would say! I soon started to looked up to him because he was a true professional on and off the pitch! A leaf out of his book would not do me any harm!! I know that at alty he is a true legend and rightly so! He wore his heart on his sleeve and he would give everything on the pitch come 3 o'clock Saturday! He was a great captain to play for always encouraging but also telling you when you needed to be told!!
I can not say enough about him and I will be there with my missus after the game against Tranmere! I would live to be there for the match but I have a pre season game my self.
See you all there and keys make it a really good turn out cause we all know he is Mr Altrincham!!
Lewis Chalmers
-
Mark is a great guy and fully deserves all the positive things being said, Alty fans adore him. I remember the day Kingy brought him in (from a liverpool amatuer side if I recall) and every day since then he has earned the praise he gets, as a player and as a man. I sincerely hope that you will keep fighting just as much now for you and your family as you did for Alty. Mark,....you are SOUND.
-
the worst possible news i had a next door neigbour who had this he was ex raf flew with the red arrows thoughts to mark and his family
-
thanks also to Lewis Chalmers for his comments.
-
Sincerely wish I could be there, but alas not possible. Have tears in my eyes just reading these comments again.
There are some footballers, indeed people in general, who's commitment is so total that they are truly inspirational, Mark is such a man. I hope, and am sure it will, turn out to be great, if emotional, day for a great servant to the club.
Keep on keepin' on
-
As a Barrow fan I would like to contribute to the fund for Mark Maddox. We are travelling for the friendly tomorrow and I hope there's a collection box or something where I can pay this.
On another sad note Simon Wiles who suffered the horrific injury when we played you last season has sadly had to retire from the game. He battled all season to regain his fitness but a previous injury to the other knee has forced his retirement.
However thanks to these two players who gave us many happy memories of their games.

Been up there a few times - whatever path you choose to walk it's a long challenge. Congrats Mark.

Reading my twitterfeed it now appears that he's doing a 26 mile bike ride (cue references to arse like a baboon or arse like a Japanese flag, so it must be Mark)
Also talking about a marathon
AND
He's offering encouragement and support the the family of other MND sufferers.
Serious question here - Does anyone know how one nominates someone for the Honours? I know that sadly the nomination would most likely be unsuccessful but I do think that this remarkable human being deserves some form of recognition
Thanks

I've been trying for ages and I STILL cannot find adequate words to express my admiration....no, strike that...admiration is a far too insignificant word.
Anyone help me please?
-
I had heard stories that Mad Dog's band were pencilled in to play a gig at Moss Lane on Saturday, 20th October 2012 but I presume that our scheduled FA Cup away day in Boston has scuppered that plan for now?
-
Twitter is awash with supportive and deservedly very complimentary tweets about Mad Dog prior to his marathon tomorrow @lastofadying1

Liverpool Marathon result. Mark Maddox 6:21:47. Complete and utter legend.

What a guy.

My Twitter feed indicates that there is an interview with the man himself in this weeks NLP

I only buy the NLP if we don't lose... I expect to be picking up my copy at the co-op on Sunday morning ;)

I thought it was only me that did that ;D ;D
Reading about a good performance is the only justification for parting with a pricey £1.50.

Can't get nlp in Scotland, but still in civilisation til tomorrow.

Did the interview appear - the NLP seems rare north of Manchester!

More article than interview tbh.
About his Marathon, the fact he shouldn't even still be able to walk at this stage post diagnosis. Only Gary SCott ran with him and, as we all know, that he isn't giving up

Apologies if this is in the wrong place but I'm going to have another go at the Manchester 10K to raise awareness and money for MND

The latest instalment had me laughing & crying.
He knows how to tell a story does our Mad Dog!

Certainly does
I'll never look at an Orang Utan or the Japanese National Flag in the same way again

Happy Birthday Mads :D
-
jesus wept - I didn't realise he tried to keep it quiet. Having been with Mrs York Alty at her diagnosis, and her terminal diagnosis there is NO way at all I could have ever attempted that. That is a mental burden too great for me. Remarkable.
Happy Birthday...

I am sorry about Mrs York Alty. I don't know how I could cope with such a thing.
Mads' blog is just an extraordinary read. There are times when many of us might be feeling sorry for ourselves over far lesser things (I know I do), but Mads puts so much into perspective.
-
I frequently say that he is the most inspiring bloke I've ever met and the bravest but he is also most selfless.
I find it a "challenge" to train for most anything, this upcoming run being more challenging than most things and I don't have a muscle wasting disease.
For him to have run, cycled and also to be training for a Marathon defies description. Add to that the blog and the strength of character to try to protect family and friends and words really do fail me.
Some time ago I suggested we nominate him for an honour. Despite the official line one member of the public's recommendation aint gonna do enough.
What say we have a concerted campaign? Ask our MP to support it, ask our Council and Councillors to support it, ask our District and County FAs to support it?
Anyone up for it??
-
The normal process is any person can send off for the application and, if memory serves, you can name people to support the recommendation.
I wonder if Ian Watmore might be the ideal person to start the ball rolling on this, but there are any number of people associated with Alty alone who would support this - then there's Leight Genesis, MND and I am sure many other people or groups who'd support this.

Indeed, a good idea. Don't think Leigh Genesis exist anymore though.
-
I just thought the more people that got involved and supported the process the better
And, if we can get some support from high profile folk / "the establishment" then even better?

We got to a point where we simply agreed that sh*t happens. It's not a fair planet, and we in the UK are in the feckin' lucky section...

I'd hate to be in the unlucky section!

I know what you're saying but, despite the efforts of some we do still have an NHS which is the envy of most of the world.
Most people. at least at this point in time, have a roof over their head and some food in their belly, clean water (albeit obscenely costly) and protection, in the main, from crime.
Throw into the pot an albeit reducing lack of Government corruption and, although it aint what it should be, it's better than some places on the Planet...at least for now

Well said Mark:
People who don’t appreciate life
by mads04
it's becoming more apparent that there's some people in this country who just want a free ride in life.i say this because over the last 2 years since I've had to give up work I've came into contact with people who want everything for nothing, people who are to lazy to go out look for work and fend for themselves. These are the people you see at 9am walking the streets with cans of white lightening cider, scruffy bastards who contribute nothing to society and actually get paid by the government to live like this!! I dread going to my GP's for fear of bumping into these people piss heads and heroin addicts who don't appreciate any one or anything unless it can get them booze or smack!! I don't fear going for myself I fear for them because one day I'm going to snap
-
Great to see Mark at the game today, still fighting, says he's overwhelmed by the support he's had from Football particularly to the crossbar challenge thingy.
Appreciative of Everton putting an article in the Derby Match Programme (although he still doesn't like them) He says they've been brilliant as have lots of clubs
Pity the result wasn't better but still a pleasure to see him and a privilege to be able to shake his hand and talk to him
-
Indeed, probably the sole highlight amidst the gloom of yesterday's defeat against Leek Town was getting the opportunity to have a pre-match chat with Mark.
Great to see him on such good form and splendid to hear that his band has an imminent new release and he has also been busy attending gigs by the likes of Dylan and Roy Harper.
Let the music keep your spirits high.
-
He makes me laugh and cry at the same time:

Some of you may have seen, but I have today entered to run the Great Manchester Run on Sunday 18th May. I have wanted to do it, and a few of my friends are also doing it this year. So I have decided as a thank you to Mark for being an inspiration to so many at Altrincham to raise money for MNDA. My JustGiving link is below. I'm pretty fortunate that I don't have to sell this charity on here :)
I did my first 10k tonight and did it in 1hr 8mins. My initial aim is 1hr, and hoping I can go past that.

I was brought up by the best mum and dad in the world, they brought me, my brothers and sister up to have basic morals in life. Show respect for your elders, always use your manners, be nice to people, smile and don’t swear!! Ok so that last one doesn’t always f**kin work for me but you get my drift!!!
-
Just seen and heard Mark on the BBC North West lunchtime news bulletin. The story will also be carried on the main programme this evening. The word 'hero' is much over-used but Mark is a hero in the truest sense of that word.

He did 16 miles and then was beaten by the heat apparently. I couldn't do 16 minutes. Tremendous effort. Well done Mads.
-
Sadly due to a combination of heat and his condition Mark had to withdraw after sixteen miles.
TYpically of Mark, on his TWITTER feed he apologised for this as though he'd let someone down, although, IMHO he has absolutely nothing to apologise for (which I have mentioned to him)
Just starting was an achievement and one I would never even consider.
Still a hero and a legend so far as I'm concerned
-
Fantastic effort Mark. For someone who should not be able to start a race like this to get this far is an exceptional achievement.
BTW, the brother of one of my friends has recently been diagnosed with MND. My friend read one of Mark's blogs and this raised her spirits greatly. Mark is truly inspirational and I really hope and believe my friend's brother will take comfort and inspiration from Mark's writings.
-
Top marks. You'd not get me to the start line, never mind 16 miles in.
Saw a bit of Match of the Day earlier on, liked the flags the Liverpool fans had of Bob Paisley etc. We need one of Mark.

Perhaps if it goes to a sponsor , then an advertiser board could be put up
Or the yellow banner infront of ALTY TV could host a permanent banner

Can anyone please do this for Mark: http://www.mndcampaigns.org/take_action/584_mnd_meeting_in_parliament_email_your_mp
Filling this simple form invites your local MP to the next meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on MND. I haver invited my MP Brian Donahoe adding the following to the invite: "I would also like to point you in the direction of Mark Maddox, a former footballer and coach and one of the bravest, stoical, modest and humble people I have ever met. Can I please ask you to read his blog which has me both laughing and crying: http://mads04.wordpress.com/ mark is the first MND sufferer to run and complete the London Marathon (against the advice of medical experts) and ask if he can do this to raise awareness of MND that you could please attend the above event."
If he can do this to raise awareness of MND we can do this little thing for Mark.

Another one to Graham Brady.

Done. I have no faith in the buffoon that represents me in Pàrliament sadly.
-
Done!
-
It would be interesting to see if our MPs do turn up. I can't see my MP Brian Donahoe doing so as there's nothing in it for him. With Mark having played in Brady's constituency club I would be very disappointed if he didn't turn up.
-
I have also done it and sent it on to Mr Brady
-
Just read Marks latest Blog
http://mads04.wordpress.com/
To have undertaken the marathon in the first place is remarkable enough
To do that with MND is even more so
BUT
To know that you have an infection as he describes, yet to still do it and be so apologetic for not finishing..well words fail me
-
He's got some bollocks. Reading that makes me feel pretty bloody small I can tell you.
-
Have sent the request to my local MP. (The tallest MP in the house of commons but would never make it as a central defender Maddog)
Regards
-
Hi Mark, pleased to tell you that I have had a reply from the office of my MP Daniel Kawczynski and he will attend the APPG also he is hosting a summer ball later in the year wiith his local Assn in which the proceeds going to the MND Association.

Someone somewhere said Mark would be at yesterday's game v Hednesford, anyone know if he made it?

If the current squad need some inspiration before the play off final, have a read of Marks blog. What an honour for the club to try and get Mark along to the final.

Ready for Sunday, quietly confident of under a hour. Just had an email from MNDA that the Manchester branch will be cheering on from Matt Busby Way.
Still time to sponsor. Can also text NASH91 and amount (£1,£2,£3,£4,£5 or £10) to 70070
Thanks

For those that don't have me on social media, I'm pleased to say I completed it in 57:04. Over the moon with that (finished 1st out of 5 friends too). So far raised £228, but even the parents haven't sponsored me yet so plenty of time to do so if you would like to.

I did wonder why I hadn't seen more Mark coverage in MDNA stuff. It is a shame they do not seem to treat him with the respect he deserves.
-
More quality:
"My little girl wanted to go on a Dumbo ride in which 2 people get in and the ride goes round and round and you have a little stick that you can go up and down, anyway I'm in the disabled line when this f**kin salad dodger is in front of us on a scooter, he's about 35, 25 stone and obviously had a season ticket for McDonalds!! He's got a T shirt on claiming "I'm not Lazy I just can't be bothered doing anything" I can tell straightaway there's nothing wrong with him, maybe it's because I'm a scouser and we can smell a bullsh*tter a mile off. Anyway he gets off the scooter waddles over to the ride, sits in it on his own, he can't even go on with his kid because he just about fits in the 2 seater ride by himself, so I said to Jayne "Poor f**king Dumbos ears will be flapping like mad getting this fella off the ground""
Even my missus laughed at this!

Latest instalment
https://mads04.wordpress.com/
Typical of the man that he is putting others before himself.
Says he is proud of his Son and by the sound of it quite rightly but a lot of that has to be down to how he has been brought up by Mark and Jayne.
Still my hero and I am proud to say my friend

Classic MadDog
"I also loved Bruce lee growing up and he's definitely up there with Hong Kong Phooey as my ultimate martial arts hero. "
-
Had the pleasure of catching up with Mark last night during the interval at the illustrious Roy Harper's gig at Bridgewater Hall. He recognised me immediately and was as approachable and friendly as ever.
Unfortunately he's not been too good recently, hence the inactivity on the blog but he certainly enjoyed the gig last night and by the looks of things at the end, I think his wife and friends were organising for him to meet Roy, which I'm sure he will have loved.
I have to say the line in Roy's most famous song, When An Old Cricketer Leaves The Crease, "There'll be one mad dog and his master, pushing for four with the spin" felt even more poignant last night!
Sadly he was well aware of our poor start to the season!
-
Thank you for letting us know, Cheadle Hulme.
I didn't know Maddog was a Roy Harper fan, good taste.
Let's hope he gets to many more gigs yet

Had the pleasure last night of chatting to Ian Craney.....he said he saw mad-dog last week.....he said mad-dog is still remarkably positive and holding up in good spirits despite now needing a wheelchair.......we had a good reminisce and I asked Ian to pass on the love from Alty fans everywhere and to assure Mark he is an absolute legend still and his overhead goal is still spoken about in hushed voices of awe......
I was wondering if tasc could consider a bucket collection being held for mark's benefit and perhaps see if the fans of alty can purchase something that would make Mark's life easier and better??
-
In an abysmal season a bucket collection for mark where notes and not loose change were thrown in would accord with the quality I believe alty supporters possess.
-
Here here. Anything that puts a smile on Marks and his families face is worth a few notes from my pocket.
Where we'd be with a Mark Maddox at CB now?

It doesn't take long for the first giggle. It's great to hear from our old friend...

Good to read another message from the great man
Love his positivity
Keep fighting fella.

How great to hear from the legend.
Inspirational and humourous I would encourage all to read and leave a comment of love...let the legend know he still makes a difference.
-
Anyone know how Mark is doing?

this thread has been sadly too quiet. In case Mark or his family read this thread, he certainly isn't forgotten, especially during these difficult days

Totally agree.

Yes. God bless that brave man.
-
Absolutely, One fighter on and off the pitch.
-
Hoping Maddog and his family are getting through the covid crisis and that we will hear Mark's thoughts on it on his blog soon.
-
As its an e-ticket, I would assume only available via website
Wrong thread?

Doddie Weir's sad passing made me think of Mark tonight.
Its been a while since any updates....its not like I can type "hope all if ok with him or his family" cos clearly it can't be, but we shouldn't forget his suffering also and wish him and his family strength and all our thoughts.
-
I thought of Mad Dog very much after watching the very moving documentary about fellow MND victim Rob Burrow a couple of weeks ago.

Ditto.
A lot of coverage up here in Scotland. Very sad

RIP Mark a true fighter

I think a lot of other results going for us has in some way made it even more frustrating and disappointing.
It's a "what if" kind of feeling.
