The clear skies will indeed allow the sun to get to the pitch.

When I left the ground 10 minutes ago though it hadn't made any appreciable difference to the amount of snow on the pitch.

We have had a number of consecutive sub zero nights over the past week or so and some areas are too hard with no realistic chances of them being thawed out in time.

The clear skies however mean that there is nothing to 'hold in' any heat generated during the day and so significantly sub zero temperatures are likely tonight, with it probably being sub zero well before Kick Off and getting colder. This would almost inevitably lead to either a very late postponement or even, if we did start an increased likelihood of abandonment

Just as a matter of interest how long do people think it would have taken to clear the snow?

To suggest that every possible step was not taken by the Club to get the game on is, at best erroneous and at worst offensive

The Ref is just covering himself really just in case it freezes.

He doesn't want to be the one to get Boston over here & then have it called off later, plus, don't we have to pay Boston's travel
costs & hotel if we allowed them to travel only to call it off later ?
So did we want the game on or not?

What a weird thing to say. Pretty sure the club would like some income to pay the wages to be honest, however small.

In the shadow of the main stand there'd be no chance of a thaw either. As for clearing the snow would that have been necessary? Surely you only need the lines clear. I'm thinking of the Boxing Day game at Stafford that was played on snow.

Maybe we could try and raise the 6 or 7 grand needed to by proper frost covers, I've heard the pros and cons, but Chester and Telford are testimony that they pay for themselves, interesting article here

I think there's few who wouldn't, you only need to get two or three Saturday games going ahead rather than being moved to midweek and its paid for itself, the roll on roll off stuff looks fantastic from a minimum effort point of view and Saturday and tonight would both have been played if it was in place, it is expensive to a certain extent but worth while, and the technology has improved greatly

Force every fan to buy a club bobble hat.

"Cover up for Alty".

I like that! Though "Cover up for Alty". could also be a local family planning slogan!

Could any covers also be rented out?

sounds like you want to set up a rent-a-condom business. dirty, though would be a step up the social etiquette ladder for macc fans.
