We should seriously consider this.  So many advantages.

Fewer winter postponements
Pitch hire - along with the new community centre we can become even more part of the local fabric. (corporate events, 5 a side leagues etc)
Matchday events. For example youth tournament in the morning with tickets for the main game afterwards. Saracens do this a lot (my son plays rugby) and it really works.
Easier maintenance.
Summer events.
etc etc

...plus the new 4G pitches are now as good as grass. They've come a long way since those early ones at Luton/Oldham/QPR that would rip your skin off. Should also suit our style of play and give a home advantage over those clubs not used to it.

I will put my cards on the table and say that I think football should be played on grass.

The increase in injuries suffered, particularly to lower leg joints is quite marked and, despite what the guy from Maidstone (who had very much of a vested interest) claimed when they were battling the FA over this, the maintenance required to keep them in appropriate condition is currently very very costly

The artificial surfaces used in Glasgow for the hockey need watering three or four times per day to keep it in ideal condition.  I am far from convinced about them, though I do fully get the options they open up for fund raising.

The main and only relevant point to this is that football on 3/4G AstroTurf is sh*t. Absolutely terrible.

Obviously good for community purposes etc as kids would barely play otherwise but not for any serious football.

And I think ATS is right about the injuries, it's clearly not natural even though they are much improved.

I like the idea of artificial turf, but have to take into account the very good points made above re maintenence etc.

Duncan Watmore was injured practising on a 3G surface with Hibs preparing for a cup game last season.
Also, are these pitcvhes allowed in the FA Cup?

Good job no one's ever been injured playing on grass then.
