Could this be THE Peter Read.....?
« on: August 13, 2009, 04:22:48 PM »

Letter published in The Times on 11th August 2009:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/letters/article6790518.ece

Could it be from the exiled former Chairman of SAFE himself?

I seem to recall that he lived in Todmorden.

He does indeed live in Todmorden and the tone of the letter certainly sounds like him!

Great man Ready...wish he was still around the club.

I agree, bring back Reidy!

however iirc my first ever post on here was a slightly pissed request to bring him back, when I woke I had about 40 Peakes to my name so maybe there are a few out there with a different feeling towards this!

Or the rest of London Alty were just being a BOC?

Tried to get the great man  to come back many times,a few of us even ventured  to darkest Todmorden hoping he would succumb to our wishes under the influence of vast quantity's of real ale, just ended up pissed and talking rubbish all night.

Apologies to Boing boing  Boyne for chilli sauce damage to the roof of his car.

I don't know Pete that well personally but I remember him well for all the hard work he did with the club and SAFE.

Peter was unhappy with certain changes made some years ago in a time of internal turmoil. I am not going to comment further.

Indeed. A great pity.

Politics should never be enough to force someone away from their club, but everyone is different. Personally, it would never make me turn my back.

A genuinely nice guy.

A top man, I remember those dark days off 1995 like they were yesterday. First time I really got to know a huge number of Alty supporters beyond my immediate circle of friends as well.

Anyone remember the day trip to Blackpool to lobby at the Conference AGM?

Edit: Just read the link. Top quality trolling and piss taking out of Yorkshire cricket, top work Ready!!

I think the worst bit is that there a lot of us waiting for "The Todmorden Borough Story Part II" that may or may not even have been written. Longest cliffhanger in Non-League story telling history. How about it Ready??
