What a crowd, what a game, we as a club and town deserve to be in the conference premier

Thought it might top 3k but to have the best part of 4k in the home end was surreal

Not only could I not get my normal seats today, I couldnt even get the normal stand!!!!  It was full - I've never seen it full before, not even on the Burton Albion FA cup game last year.

What capacity do we lose when we do the community hall - without the flags section there wouldnt have been much room left in the ground.

Beggars belief that I stood on the Chequers End in a crowd of 7844 to watch the FA Cup game against Orient. Nowadays that would feel uncomfortably full.

I was on the chequers end v orient and loved it, but when you look back knowing what we now know it would be unthinkable now.

I think that the official figure was 798 in the away end. There were also a lot of Guiseley fans in the main stand......around 200-300 arrived en-masse at about 1.50-2.00pm, therefore I would estimate that there were about 1000-1100 in total.....which is very impressive.

Guisley were given free transport to the game by the club.
A magnificent gesture.
Good luck for next season!

the addition of the crash barriers will make a difference to the space available....I can remember the 8,000 V orient and not feeling as squashed as I did yesterday....can't really see how you could squeeze another 1300 into moss lane yesterday?

Remember the family stand was a terrace  also the chequers end yesterday had big gaps in places.

Surely they were barriers in place by the time the Orient game was played. That end had only been built at couple of years.

Never seen that many people inside Moss Lane before, and baring an FA Cup tie against a big side, I doubt it will be surpassed for a long time.

Not only the usual United and City fans getting down but also load of kids, most of whom don't usually watch live football and may be visiting Moss Lane for the first time. Lets hope a few of them get hooked and become regulars at Moss Lane - I mean there can't be many better games for your first dose of Alty magic!

Even if just 10% of those kids start coming regularly we can easily average a 1200+ gate next year.

While waiting for the ground to clear a bit I had a conversation with a Hull City fan who lives in Manchester. The game attracted a lot of one off interest. And what a show they got.

Absolutely right Jimmy - a big pat on the back is due to everybody involved in staging the game yesterday.  Getting that number of people in and out safely is an achievement in its own right.  I didn't go but because this is Alty FC I know it will have been done professionally and courteously. Great job.

policeman said to me "Main Stand is FULL mate I will have to close your gate". This was 2.50pm. Even tho Pete Lewis told people there was no seats left and they would have to go and dtand they still wanted to come in saying im meeting someone who saved me a seat. Then complained to stewards when they found out main stand was actually FULL. All turned out ok in the end but why dont people listen to those who know the facts on these things?

Yesterday's gate was exceptional and although I hoped for a decent turn out surprised me. I've always thought the Altrincham area was a bit ambivalent to the football club, even in our heyday we rarely pitched above 1800 for routine league games, Macc or Vics apart. Someone has done something very right in the marketing of this game, probably lots of people actually, we have a lot of "sleeping" supporters who have been re engaged. The work needs to continue, we won't get 4000 every week next season clearly but if we can strive to re engage people, could we get 1500 in each week now people have woken up? I think we can, it would make such a difference. This is our new beginning, let us make the most of it.

All that work with the kids teams and the community sports hall has done wonders for our profile in the area and yesterday it turned into people through the gate - long  may they be Alty fans!

A big thank you to both sets of fans yesterday. Yes we had to shut the stand turnstiles before kick off, we were keeping a count on how many were coming through so knew when to stop. Both sets of fans were a credit to their club, I was proud to be an Alty fan especially when our fans applauded the Guisley fans. Lets hope some of those first timers enjoyed themselves so much they decide to come back next season. Thanks again everyone, every one helped to make it a special day.

Very impressed (and a little surprised they admitted) by the quality of both teams and also by the crowd

I'm still buzzing after yesterday, I couldn't believe the crowd.

When we were last promoted in 2005, Facebook was just over a year old while Twitter didn't even arrive until almost a year after that day at the Britannia.

We're of an age where there are a hardcore group of fans who all know how to use social media effectively. I think a good few hundred of yesterday's 4,600-odd attendees were a direct result of these fans' use of these useful kinds of tools.

Simple things such as sharing a Facebook event page, changing a display picture or tweeting a couple of times a day can prove to be so useful. These are all things that weren't necessarily available in the 2005/2006 season, when our average gate during our first season back in non-league's top flight was 1,048.

What I'm trying to say is we're now going back into the Conference with a much better ability to advertise the club's games. Not only with social media, but we've also got the vast number of junior sides all playing in the red and white stripes once a week. All of these kind of things make me very confident that, should we go into the Conference and continue to try and play attractive football with some heart, we'll definitely average a gate of over 1,500 next season.

So happy to be proved completely wrong on the crowd. A perfect day in every respect.

I'm H-A-P-P-Y, I'm Alty till I die

There are no drugs available legal or otherwise (so I'm told) that can give you such a high that lasts so long.

Permagrin.

Agree with that too. I think it's wonderful how this club is, more and more, engaging with the town both through the community work and social media. It is getting more and more young people involved with us which can only be good.

Also, we appear to have a lot of goodwill in the media which is important. Jimmy Wagg was raving about us this morning on Radio Manchester. Then you have the likes of of Mark Chapman and of course Jonathan Wall.

What happens on the pitch is the most important thing, but it isn't the only thing.

This was so much better than the Stoke play-off final because there was a decent crowd and atmosphere. Only 2500 at Stoke that day and the bizarre situation of neither set of fans being able to see the other due to being put in separate tiers of the same stand.

Had to queue for just a few minutes and it was only 2.35pm........could not believe my eyes when I got in........even the toilet block was full with people getting 'prepared' for the game after a few jars in the boozer......there were no gaps at all on Popside hoardings either.........incredible scenes so let's hope a lot of them enjoyed it so much they come back next season.

Well done to all the volunteer turnstile operators and stewards who handled it all so well on the day.
