FA Trophy Final 1986
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:06:59 PM »

One of the greatest days in the life of our club.

A trip to Wembley.

A win over the 'Corn.

A great goal fit to win any match, apparently (I could barely see it as I was half a mile away at the other end of the ground).

But what was the attendance at the world's most famous stadium on that day?

And did Mike Farrelly score the score?

Attendance was about 15,000 I think and Farrelly was the goalscorer.

Remember lifting little Saughall Junior up at the front fencing to touch the trophy as it was paraded to the fans after the game. He was only 8 and a half but he's never forgotten it!

Altyfan in Nottm you make me smile. You are either of a similar age to myself therefore having recently awoken from 25 years or so on the pi$$ or you have "been away".

Jokingly I doubt it is either...........that is just my perspective.

Next question please, scorer v Birmingham possibly?

Take care.

Talking of early memories one of my best was the aftermath of the Leatherhead final when the FATrophy was displayed at Moss Lane the following Sunday afternoon. Around 5000 or so turned up, and the decision was made to open the ground. The usual suspects congregated on Golf Rd and roared their appreciation but sadly the celebrations were cut short as hundreds stormed the pitch and the Trophy had to be taken inside for safe keeping

Made the mistake as I recall of bringing along the then long ago Ms SW who did not appreciate some "male oriented" chanting. The Gazelle etc may have been involved........times get misty. ;D She's still got my old Timex watch!!

Yes - "Been away"

Moved from Alty area to Nottingham 20 years ago. Still managed to see a few matches each season. Then there was a little gap. Was seeing plenty of football in Nottingham, as Forest were in the top flight or the top of (what I call Division 2) the championship (But it just isn't the same as watching Alty - in many different ways).
Went to the Emley promotion classic in 99, then there was an even bigger gap in attendance.

Then a young family happened.

Then I was watching Setanta Sports earlier this year and Alty were on. Let me repeat - Alty were live on TV!!! Think they were 2-0 down and they came back to 2-2.
I thought "fantastic". So, I took my little lad to a couple of games at Moss Lane late in the season and we also took in the Kidderminster away match.

So now Alty are back in my thoughts.
