or should that be 'Bye Bye Pepe, Pepe Goodbye' ? (Bay City Rollers fans will know where I'm coming from here !)

Not surprisingly no one picked up maximum points by forecasting the impressive 4-0 German win over Portugal in the 5.00pm kick off in Salvador.

With 13 entries predicting a draw, points were very thin on the ground with only 2 teams managed to pick up 2 points.

The Iran v Nigeria bore draw saw just two teams, Rio De Timperley and Groucho’s Gooners pick up a maximum 3 points.

With no one else picking up 2 points most of the remaining teams managed to pick up 1 point by predicting one of the two teams would not score.

The final game of the day saw the USA edge a close encounter against Ghana by 2-1.

Three lucky teams predicted the correct score to pick up a maximum three points. Well done to The Hand of God, Phil Jones and Mauritian Flyer.

Mauritian Flyer moves up to 4th place with 4 fully correct score predictions out of the 14 matches played to date.

Gilmore and Sarah Rowley still lead the way with 22 & 21 points respectively but the gap behind them has closed.

The latest table reads as follows:

Gilmore   22
Sarah Rowley   21
The Hand of God   19
Mauritian Flyer   18
Potters Mould   18
Pukka Is Best   18
Shortdean United   17
Good Guessers   17
Rio De Timperley   17
Groucho's Gooners   17
Phil Jones   17

Tuesday’s matches (Day 6) sees the final two matches of the first round of qualifying matches with Belgium, Algeria, Russia and South Korea finally joining the party in Group H.

23 out of 25 entries have gone for a win for Belgium, with 2-0 the most popular score line (10 predictions) and a further 7 predictions for a 3-0 win. One person has gone for a 2-1 win for Algeria and one for a 1-1 draw.

A 1-1 draw is the most favoured prediction in the Russia v South Korea match with 9. Only two punters have gone for a South Korea win with 12 predicting a win for Russia.

In addition Group A’s two winners from the first round of matches, Brazil and Mexico, meet in Fortaleza. Brazil are again clear favourites to win with 22 predicting a win for the samba boys. (8 go for 3-1 and 7 for  2-0 respectively) and the other 3 plumping for a 1-1 draw.

Four matches on Day 4 presented the opportunity to make a serious improvement in the individual points totals of the 25 teams taking part in the TASC World Cup Prediction Competition.

The Ivory Coast’s 2-1 victory over Japan in the early hours was correctly predicted by Shortdean United, Pukka Is Best and Gilmore.

Switzerland’s injury time winner against Ecuador wiped out 6 people’s chances of picking up a maximum 3 points having gone for a 1-1 draw. Congratulations to Phil Jones and Sarah Rowley who both correctly predicted a 2-1 win for the Swiss.

Sarah’s prediction was her third all correct prediction in the nine matches to date and temporarily moved her to the top of the leader board ahead of the two other matches.

France’s bruising encounter against Honduras resulted in 6 correct predictions of the 3-0 score line.

Fortunately my offer of a bottle of champagne to the person who predicted an 8-2 win for France was never in danger and the bottle is now safely back in the fridge ! - Sorry George !

Potters Mould and Gilmore were the only two to correctly predict the Argentina v Bosnia Herzegovina result both having also done likewise in the preceding France v Honduras match.

Gilmore’s three correct predictions out of the four matches played on Sunday takes him to the top of the table with 19 points just one point ahead of Sarah Rowley. Just two points then separates the next 12 teams.

The full table is as follows:

Gilmore     19
Sarah Rowley   18
The Hand of God   15
Shortdean United   15
Pukka Is Best   15
Good Guessers   14
Mauritian Flyer   14
Foz   14
Potters Mould   14
Rio De Timperley   13

The big match on Day 5 (Monday) is undoubtedly the early kick off between Germany and Portugal in Salvador. Over half of the entries have gone for a draw, with 8 people predicting a 1-1 draw and 5 going for 2-2.  11 of you have gone for a German victory, with the most popular score line being 3-1 (5 predictions). Only one person has gone for a Portuguese win (1-2).

Similarly only one person is predicting an Iranian win over Nigeria (3-1) with 6 predicting a draw.

In the other Group G match in Natal, no fewer than 11 people have gone for a 1-1 draw between Ghana and USA. 6 participants have gone for a Ghana win and 7 for the USA.

With 11 out of the 48 matches played the competition is wide open.

... none of our entrants predicted Spain to loose by 5 goals to one !

Welcome to the first update of the TASC World Cup Prediction Competition.

With four matches now completed, we can confirm that we have 25 teams taking part in the competition to predict the correct scores and match results of the initial group stages.

Thank you to all of those who have entered.

The surprise result of the second day was undoubtedly The Netherlands 5-1 annihilation of Spain

Not surprisingly, no one correctly predicted the Dutch’s demolition of current world champions. In fact not one of all 25 entrants predicted a win for the Netherlands by any score !

In the earlier kick off, only 2 people correctly predicted a 1-0 victory for Mexico, although only 2 people failed to pick up at least 1 point.

The final match of the second day saw Chile take on Australia and win 3-1 with just two fully correct score predictions.

So after the results of the first 4 matches means that the first league table looks like this:

The Hand of God   8
Good Guessers   8
They Think It's All Over   7
Gilmore   6
One Over The Eight   6
GC XI   6
Wilmslow Wanderers   6
The Flaggers   5

Phil Jones   4
Pukka Is Best   4
Barkley's Brave Harts   4
Pete Foster   4
All Roads To Rip - BR - 116   3
Potters Mould   3
Timperley Toon   2

Saturday sees three matches with Columbia taking on Greece in the early kick off, followed by Uruguay v Costa Rica at 8.00pm and the big match last off at 11.00pm when England open their campaign against Italy.

5 people have predicted Columbia v Greece to finish as a goal less draw with only 4 going for a Greek victory.

No one gives Costa Rica a chance of beating Uruguay although 4 have gone for a draw. The biggest predicted victory margin is 6-0.

In the big match between England and Italy, 10 out of 25 have gone for a 1-1 draw with a further 6 predicting an England victory by 2-1. Only 3 entrants have gone for an Italian win.

The next update will be posted after the above mentioned matches.

A technical question ?

I have an iPad and thus far have been unable to get Radio Robins on it ?

As I will be stuck on holiday for the playoff semi finals, is there any way I can download anything to an iPad that would enable me to pick up Radio Robins ?

The other alternative is the wife has her Kindle Fire with her - would that be able to pick up Radio Robins ?

Any technical assistance would be much appreciated

.. to join the TASC Goal Rush scheme for the 2013-14 season and be included in the first draw for one of three prizes for each 10 goals scored.

Despite the disappointment of last Saturday's FA Trophy result, Altrincham have amassed a grand total of 35 league and cup goals to date.

As a consequence TASC will be holding the 3 draws for the 10, 20 and 30 goal benchmarks at half time on the Radio Robins match commentary for the away match v Gloucester City next Tuesday evening.

Remember each 25p pledge per goal scored ensures one entry into each draw.

This season's prize structure has been improved and each winner has the choice of one of the following prizes.

1. Free admission for 2 for a future Skrill North league match of their choice, or

2. Free coach travel for one person to an away match of their choice on the TASC organised coach. or

3. A signed photo of the winner with their favourite Altrincham player.

In addition each 25p pledge also qualified for the end of season draws for a signed match ball and signed shirt.

If you haven't confirmed your renewal from last season or would like to take part and be included in next Tuesday's draw, please send me a personal message on here confirming the amount you would like to pledge per goal (in multiples of 25p) and we will ensure you are included.

A big thank you to all those who have re-joined for this season and the best of luck !
