Altrincham FC First Team / You Know It Makes Sense .....
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:25:40 PM »
.... to join the 2014-15 TASC Goal Rush Scheme, and the chance to win free travel to an away match or two tickets to a home match of your choice as well as a signed match ball and shirt.

We are still looking for further participants to help us achieve our target of £30.00 per goal scored in total.

For those who are not sure how the scheme operates, the scheme is simple. Anyone can sponsor the mighty Robins any amount they wish in multiples of 25p per goal for each goal they score throughout the 2014-15 season in all competitive the Vanarama Conference League and play off matches, FA Cup, FA Trophy and Cheshire Senior Cup matches.

For example – If Altrincham score a total of 75 goals in the 2014/15 season for each 25p sponsored goal you would be paying £18.75 for the whole season.

For every 10th goal scored, each sponsor will be entered into a free draw based on one entry for each 25p sponsored, i.e If you agree to donate 50p per goal, you receive 2 entries, £2.00 per goal receives 8 entries etc.

The lucky winner of each draw for every 10th goal will have the choice of one of three prizes. These are (1) TWO FREE TICKETS for a forthcoming home league game, (2) FREE AWAY TRAVEL for one person to any away game on the TASC organised coach or (3) A SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH of the winner with their favourite Altrincham player

In addition there will be still be the end of the season draw for TWO PRIZES of a signed shirt and match ball.

Should the total amounts pledged exceed £30.00 and Altrincham score 100 goals in the 2014-15 season then the Chairman has again agreed to provide a free season ticket for the 2015-16 season in addition for the end of season draw.

Application forms will be available from the TASC table located in the Noel White Suite before the home matches v Lincoln City on Tuesday evening and Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Many thanks to all those supporters who have re-pledged their goal sponsorship in the TASC Goal Rush Scheme for the 2014-15 Season.

...... but not just yet.

So ? How was it for you ?

15 days and 48 qualifying matches, a 4 month ban for Luis Suarez and the ‘Fat Lady Is Clearing Her Throat’ in the TASC World Cup Prediction Competition as the dust settles on the final round of qualifying matches.

The final two games in Group G saw Germany beat the USA 1-0 in Recife and Portugal win 2-1 over Ghana in Brasilia. Only one team (Pukka Is Best) came up with an all correct score prediction in the USA v Germany match and no one with an all correct prediction in the Portugal v Ghana match.

The results meant that Sarah Rowley’s lead was cut to just one point by Shortdean United ahead of the final two games in Group H.

Belgium’s 1-0 win over South Korea provided 3 all correct score predictions, from fourth placed The Hand of God, Barkley’s Brave Hearts and Pukka is Best (his second 3 pointer of the day). Leader Sarah Rowley only managed 1 point so it was all down to the last match, Algeria v Russia.

3 more all correct predictions for the 1-1 score line and only 1 point again for Sarah.

The teams picking up 3 point maximums were Rio De Timperley, GC XI and of course ……….. Pete Foster !!!.

Not only was this Pete’s second 3 point maximum, but it also lifted him off the bottom of the table at the death overtaking Derek Wilshaw’s Wilmslow Wanderers -  Sorry Derek !

At the top of the table, Sarah Rowley managed to pick up just 5 points from the last 4 matches on the day, it was however sufficient to maintain her 2 point overnight lead to finish at the top of the table with just the points to be added from the predictions for winners, runners up and 3rd & 4th places.

The battle for second place really hotted up and no less than three teams finished level on 60 points. Potters Mould currently edge it with 7 all correct predictions followed by Hand of God with 5 and Shortdean United on 3.

The final table after all the qualifying matches is: (The second figure is the number of correct score predictions)

1   Sarah Rowley                   62   6
2   Potters Mould                   60   7
3   The Hand of God           60   5
4   Shortdean United           60   3
5   GC XI                           57   5
T6   Rio De Timperley           56   5
T6   Pukka Is Best                   56   5
8   Barkley's Brave Harts           56   4
9   Groucho's Gooners           55   4
10   The Flaggers                   54   2
11   Foz                                   53   3
12   Super Doopers                   52   2
13   I'll Beat George                   51   3
14   Mauritian Flyer                   50   5
15   Gilmore                           50   3
16   Hardly Athletic                   50   2
17   One Over The Eight           49   2
18   Timperley Toon                   47   4
19   Phil Jones                           47   3
20   Good Guessers                   46   3
21   They Think It's All Over       44   4
22   All Roads To Rio - BR - 116   43   1
23   We're On The First Plane Home   41   3
24   Pete Foster                      39   2
25   Wilmslow Wanderers           37   1

So it’s all down to who wins, who gets beaten in the final and who finishes in 3rd & 4th place and who has made the correct predictions.

Unfortunately for leader Sarah Rowley, three of her four predictions, Spain, Italy and Portugal have already fallen by the wayside, only Brazil finishing as beaten finalists can add to her points tally.

Of the three teams on 60 points, Potters Mould and Shortdean United have both gone for Brazil to win whilst Hand Of God has gone for Argentina. All three team have lost Spain as a potential points scorer.

The final placed selections of the top four are as follows:

1   Sarah Rowley                     Spain, Brazil, Italy, Portugal
2   Potters Mould                   Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Germany
3   The Hand of God           Argentina, Germany, Brazil, Spain
4   Shortdean United           Brazil, Germany, Spain, Columbia

Bring on the knockout stages

Nigeria’s second goal against Argentina in a 2-3 defeat scuppered eight 3-1 score predictions in the final round of matches in Group F. No one made a fully correct score prediction although 22 teams had gone for an Argentinian win which means that only 2 teams failed to pick up at least one point.

Top of the table Sarah Rowley and Barkley’s Brave Hearts were the only two teams to correctly predict the 3-1 score for Bosnia Herzegovina against Iran. Only 3 other teams picked up 2 points meaning Sarah’s lead at the top of the table extended to 4 points after the early kick offs.

However Sarah failed to pick up any points from the two Group D matches between Honduras and Switzerland and the Ecuador v France game. Unfortunately none of the challengers could come up with a fully correct 3 point score prediction to capitalise.

Going in to the final round of matches Sarah Rowley leads by 2 points from Potters Mould and Shortdean United with The Hand of God a further 3 points in arrears.

The penultimate table from the qualifying matches reads as follows (the second figure in brackets indicates the number of fully correct score predictions)

1   Sarah Rowley   57   (6)
2   Potters Mould   55   (7)
3   Shortdean United   55   (3)

5   Groucho's Gooners   51   (4)
6   GC XI   50   (4)
7   Barkley's Brave Harts   50   (3)

Day 15 (Thursday - Final qualifying matches)

This is it the last chance for the chasing pack to lay claim to the top of the table after the qualifying group matches. Will anyone be able to close the gap and catch Sarah Rowley at the top of the table ?

In the 5.00pm kick offs in Group G Germany and Portugal are clear favourites with 21 and 22 win predictions to beat USA and Ghana respectively. None of our teams have gone for either a USA or Ghana win.

Most popular prediction is a 2-0 win for Portugal (10 predictions) with 7 going for a 2-1 German win. Leader, Sarah Rowley goes for a bold 5-1 win for Germany with Potters Mould at 3-1 and Shortdean at 4-0.

Three of our leading five have all gone for a 2-0 win for Portugal and the same teams also go for the same 2-0 score for a Russian win against Algeria.

And finally ! Group H concludes proceedings at 9 o’clock with South Korea v Belgium in Sao Paulo and Algeria v Russia in Curitiba. Belgium and Russia are again clear favourites win 17 and 18 win predictions respectively.

The final table could all be down to predicting the correct score. 6 go for a 1-1 draw between South Korea and Belgium, and 8 go for a 2-0 win for Russia.

It's going to be close at the top !

After the final group games it's all down to the predictions for Winners, Runners Up, and the third & fourth placed matches. Some interesting predictions there could decide the final outcome ?

Three and half rounds of golf, 11 matches and a peckish Luis Suarez chomps in to an Italian since the last update.

So who have been the main movers and shakers since the last update on Saturday evening ?

USA’s unexpected 2-2 draw with Portugal caught all our entrants out with no correct scores or 2 pointers although 18 of our teams picked up 1 point..

4 teams picked up a maximum 3 points by correctly predicting the Belgium 1 Russia 0 result, 3 other teams picked up 2 points and 2 failed to score.

The high scoring South Korea v Algeria match again resulted in no correct predictions of the 2-4 win for Algeria. Only 12 points were picked up in total making it the lowest scoring match of those since Saturday.

Conversely Spain’s 3-0 win saw 5 score correct predictions and an aggregate 47 points making it the largest points total since Saturday.

4 teams picked up a maximum 3 points after the Netherlands 2-0 over Chile including All Roads Lead To Rio who became the last team to break their duck with their first all correct score prediction in the 36th game of the tournament.

Brazil’s 4-1 victory over Cameroon was correctly predicted by 4 teams and a further 3 teams had predicted the boys from Brazil would score 4 goals to pick up 2 points each.

No team correctly predicted the result of the Croatia v Mexico match making it the 16th game out of 32 to date where no one predicted the correct result.

Despite Luis Suarez’s attempts to bite his way through the Italian defence only yours truly’s Hand Of God managed to correctly predict Uruguay’s 1-0 victory.

Such was the overwhelming support for England where 24 of our 25 teams predicted an England win against Costa Rica, that no team picked a maximum or even 2 points, with 15 teams picking up 1 point each.

The final matches in Group C saw Japan lose 4-1 against Columbia whilst a 93rd minute penalty by Georgeos Samarus not only eliminated Ivory Coast but blew five 1-1 predictions and provided for 3 all correct predictions for One Over The Eight, GC XI and most importantly, leader Sarah Rowley.

So how do all these 11 results since the last update impact of the table?

Biggest mover is Foz who has picked up a total 17 points to move from 15th to 6th place. The Hand of God picked up 16 points to move from10th to 4th and Shortdean United with 15 points to edge in to 3rd place. Lowest points scorers with 8 each have been Pete (1-1) Foster, Rio De Timperley, Phil Jones and Mauritian Flyer

Sarah Rowley extends her lead to 3 points with just 2 days and 8 qualifying group matches remaining. Potters Mould and Shortdean United both have 49 points but Potters Mould have 5 all correct predictions to Shortdean’s 3 maximum three pointers.

The full table is:

1   Sarah Rowley   52
2   Potters Mould   49
3   Shortdean United   49
4   The Hand of God   48
5   Groucho's Gooners   47

Day 14 provides the final round of matches in Group E at 5.00pm  & Group F at 9.00pm.

Nigeria take on Argentina in Porto Alegre with Argentina seeking to make it 3 wins out of 3 to top the group. Not surprisingly no one has gone for a win for Nigeria with 3 predicting a draw. A 3-1 Argentinian win is the favoured option with 8 predictions, followed by 6 going for 2-1.

It a close run split between Bosnia Herzegovina beating Iran (12 predictions) and a draw with 11 predictions. Could this be the match that splits the teams at the top with such a diverse set of predictions ?

The 9.00pm kick offs feature Honduras v Switzerland and Ecuador v France in Group F.

France are favourites by 19 to win with 2 predicting a win for Ecuador and 4 going for the draw. 15 people have gone for a Swiss victory against Honduras with 8 predicting a draw.

Can Foz sustain his late sprint for the winning line ?

Next update tomorrow evening will reveal all.

40
Yours Truly is off to play golf in North Wales from Sunday to Tuesday, so the next update, following this will not be possible until after England’s final match of the tournament against Costa Rica on Tuesday evening.

At least it gives me the opportunity to escape the household and stick for my team still being behind both my son and even worse the wife's teams. Hopefully when I return class will have risen to the top by Tuesday evening !

In Saturday’s matches, Lionel Messi’s late winner for Argentina to save their blushes against Iran meant that 24 out of 25 correctly predicted the result. However, only one team (They Think It’s All Over), correctly predicted the 1-0 score line to pick up a maximum 3 points. 22 teams out of the remaining 24 teams did pick up 2 points each, the only 2 missing out were Pete Foster and Wilmslow Wanderers who predicted that Iran would score.

The second of Saturday’s matches saw Germany take on Ghana in Fortaleza. In one of the most entertaining matches to date Ghana’s 2-2 draw blew the 22 predictions for a German win. Next to the bottom, ‘We’re On The First Plane Home’ were the only team to correctly predict a 2-2 draw to pick up a maximum 3 points. No teams picked up 2 points and 11 failed to pick up any points.

The late kick off between Nigeria and Bosnia Herzegovina was surely one for the diehards in a match described as ‘flaccid’ only two teams (Groucho’s Gooners and I’ll Beat George) correctly predicted the 1-0 win for Ghana.

Sarah Rowley’s lead at the top of the table has been cut to just 2 points courtesy of Groucho Gooners correct prediction which moves him up to second alongside Rio De Timperley

1   Sarah Rowley   39
2   Groucho's Gooners   37

Sunday sees three matches which complete the second round of fixtures and the potential qualifiers are beginning to take shape.

Belgium v Russia kicks off proceedings in Group H at 5.00pm. Belgium are favourites to come out on top with 15 predictions for a win, with 2-1 being the favoured win margin (8 predictions). We have 8 predictions for a draw with 6 going for 1-1.

The second match in Group H kicks off at 8.00pm in Port Alegre where South Korea take on Algeria. South Korea are again the favourites to win with 15 predictions, the most popularly predicted being 2-0 by 6 of our entrants.

The late kick off match is the USA v Portugal. Can Portugal bounce back from their thrashing at the hands of the Germans ? 21 of you seem to think so by predicting a Portuguese win (7 go for 2-0, 6 for 2-1 and 4 for 3-1) Only one person has gone for a victory by Uncle Sam’s boys and three have opted for the draw.

Day 12 (Monday) sees the beginning of the last round of qualifying matches, with both matches in each group taking place at the same time.

First off at 5.00pm are the matches in Group B with the Aussies taking on the Spanish in Curitiba and The Netherlands against Chile in Sao Paulo.
Australia are no hopers to beat Spain with 24 out of 25 predicting a Spanish victory. 15 of you do not expect the Aussies to hit the back of the Spanish net. The most favoured predictions are 3-0 and 4-1 with 6 and 5 respectively.

18 people predict a Dutch victory over Chile, and 7 go for the draw which means again that no one fancies a Chilean win. 2-1 is the most favoured prediction with 7, and a 3-1 win second with 5.

The 9.00pm kick offs are in Group A where Brazil take on Cameroon and Croatia play Mexico.

23 people expect a win for Brazil and 2 go for a 1-1 draw. 11 of you do not expect Cameroon to register a single goal. The biggest predicted win margin is 5-0.

The Croatia v Mexico result appears more difficult to predict, 10 have gone for a draw, 6 for a win for Croatia and 9 for Mexico. The most predicted result is a 1-1 draw (8 predictions) followed by a 2-1 win for Mexico with 6 predictions.

Tuesday will undoubtedly be unlucky Day 13 for those teams in Groups C & D who will be flying home after failing to qualify.

The takeaway delivery services will be working overtime with the tea time kick offs with already eliminated England’s playing their final match against Costa Rica whilst Italy take on Uruguay in Natal with both teams yet to confirm their place in the knockout stages.

Nationalism /Patriotism rules for Roy Hodgson’s side as 24 out of 25 predict/hope for a victory, that will bring back some pride before departing for the airport. Most popular predicted score line is 2-0 (7 predictions) with 5 going for a 2-1 victory and 4 hoping for a more comfortable 3-1 win.

Meanwhile in Natal, 15 people have gone for a draw between Italy and Uruguay with 8 predictions for a 2-2 draw and 6 for 1-1. 7 punters have gone for an Italian win and 3 for Uruguay.

Group C concludes with Japan v Columbia in Cuiaba and Greece v Ivory Coast in Fortaleza.

10 people have gone for a 1-1 draw between Japan and Columbia with 6 & 7 of you going for Japan and Columbia wins respectively.

The Ivory Coast are favourites to beat Greece with 12 win predictions, 9 go for the draw and 5 for a Greek victory.

The next update on Tuesday evening will cover the 11 matches played on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday so log in to see which of our teams are making the running in our World Cup Prediction Competition, and who will be the teams heading home from Brazil?

Right now here did I put those spare golf balls ?

41
Costa Rica’s surprise 1-0 win over Italy not only wiped out any chance of England making the knockout stages, but decimated the scoring in the TASC World Cup Prediction Competition.

With 22 punters predicting an Italian win and 3 going for a 1-1 draw, only 5 teams managed to pick up a single point in the first match of the day.

The Switzerland v France encounter in Salvador provided the 10th game to date where no correct score was predicted. Despite 18 people predicting a French win and 6 the draw, only one team (One Over The Eight), picked up two points.

Ecuador’s bruising encounter with Honduras saw them come from a goal down to triumph 2-1. Whilst 9 of our entrants predicted a win for Ecuador only one, George Heslop’s Souper Doopers’ picked up an all correct 3 points.

It was a poor scoring day all round with Timperley Toon finishing pointless on the day. The top points scorers were the Souper Doopers and Sarah Rowley who each picked up 4 points. As a result Sarah extends her lead at the top of the table to 4 points from Potters Mould and Rio De Timperley.

Saturday Preview:

After Iran’s no score draw in their opening match against Nigeria, it’s almost unanimously predicted that they will fail to score in their match against Argentina. Only 2 punters expect Iran to score, and 24 out of our 25 entries predict a win for Argentina. We have 7 predictions for 3-0 and 4-0 each and 5 have gone for 5-0. Oh ! and Pete Foster has gone for 1-1 (again !)

The second match between Germany and Ghana is almost another racing certainty in the eyes of our experts with 22 people expecting a German victory. Most expected winning margin is 2-0 with 10 predictions. 3 people have gone for a draw including Pete Foster.

A draw is the favoured outcome of the final match between Nigeria and Bosnia Herzegovina with 11 predictions (7 for 1-1 and 4 for 2-2) At least 6 others agree with Pete Foster on this one !

With just under half of the 48 group stage matches played  to date, and Spain, Australia and Cameroon already out and England teetering on the brink, it’s an appropriate opportunity to look at the scores on the doors and analyse events so far.

The competition could ultimately be decided on the final predictions for the winners, runners up, and third and fourth placed teams.

With Spain already out 21 out of our 25 entries cannot pick up maximum points.

The full summary of winners etc, with the number of predictions shown in brackets is as follows:

Winners :           Brazil (17)
              Argentina (5)
              Spain (2)
              Germany (1)

Runners Up:   Germany (9)
                        Argentina (8)
               Brazil (5)
             Spain (3)

Third Place:   Spain (10)
             Argentina (5)
             Germany (3)
                       Brazil & Italy (2 each)
Belgium, Holland & England (1 each),

Fourth Place:   Spain (8)
              Germany (6)
              Belgium (3)
England, Portugal & France (2 each)
                        Columbia, Uruguay ( 1 each),

Finally, as a matter of interest, Pete Foster’s entry predicted all 48 matches to finish 1-1. After 23 matches he currently languishes in 24th spot out of 25 with just one correct score prediction and 18 points.

However, had Pete submitted a similar entry and gone for a 2-1 ‘home’ victory down the coupon, he would be sitting in 7th spot with a healthy 28 points and 6 correct predictions. Conversely, if he had gone for a 1-2 win for all the ‘away’ teams you would have amassed just 15 points and two correct score predictions and be rock bottom !

With a further 25 qualifying matches to go things are beginning to hot up.

Columbia’s 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in Brasilia was the prelude to the big match in Sao Paulo. The Columbians virtually secured a place in the knock out stages with their second 2-1 win in consecutive games.

Only two of our teams, Potters Mould and Shortdean United, predicted the correct score line to pick up a maximum 3 points.

Luis Suarez’s 2 goals for Uruguay broke the hearts of England supporters to set up the second 2-1 score line of the day.

Five teams picked a maximum 3 points with Shortdean United making it 2 out of 2 fully correct predictions on the day and Mauritian Flyer making it 5 all correct predictions in total . Hardly Athletic came up with their first 3 pointer leaving just 2 teams (George Heslop’s Souper Doopers and All Roads Lead To Rio) yet to predict a fully correct score.

The 0-0 draw between Japan and Greece was predicted by 3 teams with Potters Mould picking their second correct score prediction of the day and moves up to second place with 31 points, just 1 point behind Sarah Rowley. Four teams are bunched behind the top two with 29 points.

The table reads:

Sarah Rowley   32
Potters Mould   31
Groucho's Gooners   29

Following Thursday's disappointing England result In Group D, it’s the turn of the two winners from the first round of matches to meet on Friday when Italy take on Costa Rica in Recife. All England followers will now be supporting the Italians in the hope that they can come up with two victories in their remaining group matches to keep England’s qualifications hopes alive.

Despite Costa Rica’s surprise win in their opening match against Uruguay no one has predicted a win for the South Americans. Only 3 people expect a draw with all 3 going for 1-1 (including Pete Foster!).
22 out of 27 participants have gone for an Italian win, with no fewer than 13 going for a 2-0 win

The second match again sees two unbeaten teams face each other in Group E when Switzerland take on France in Salvador. 1 person has predicted a Swiss win, 6 have gone for a draw (including Pete Foster) and France are favourites for a win in the minds of remaining 18. A  2-1 French win is the most popular outcome with 8 predictions.

The late kick off sees rough tackling Honduras take on Ecuador in Curitiba. We have 15 predictions for a draw (5 for 0-0 and 6 for 1-1 including Pete Foster), 1 person has gone for a Honduras win and 9 selections for a win for Ecuador.

Come On You Italians !

Three teams are eliminated on Day 7, with Spain, Australia and Cameroon dusting down their passports with one game still to play. Who will be next ?

Whilst 24 people had predicted a win for the Netherlands, no one predicted the 3-2 score over Australia in the first match of Day 7 in Porto Alegre. However 10 entrants had gone for either 3-0 or 3-1 which was enough to pick up two points each. Everyone else picked up one point with the exception of Pete Foster who went for 1-1.

Chile’s 2-0 win to send defending champions Spain home after just two games certainly upset the odds and with 23 out of 25 having predicted a win for Spain, the match became the lowest aggregate points scoring  in the World Cup Prediction Competition to date.

Derek Wilshaw’s Wilmslow Wanderers were the only team to pick up a point with his prediction of a 3-2 win for Spain

Croatia’s 4-0 stroll in the park following Song’s sending off for Cameroon meant that no one made a correct prediction in any of today’s games.

In a low scoring day the best performers were The Flaggers and GC XI who both picked up 4 points. Only one person failed to pick up a point, and as a consequence Pete Foster returns back to the bottom of the table having reached the dizzy heights of 20th yesterday.

At the top end of the table, over night leaders Gilmore and Sarah Rowley have now been joined by son of (S)alty’s Rio De Timperley on 26 points. Am I in for some earache ? All three also have the same amount of correct score predictions (3).

The latest table reads as follows:

Gilmore   26
Sarah Rowley   26
Rio De Timperley   26
Groucho's Gooners   25
The Hand of God   24
Potters Mould   24

It’s a case of ‘England Expects’ on Day 8, with England taking on the other beaten team from the first round of matches, Uruguay in Sao Paulo at 8.00 pm.

8 people have gone for a draw ( 7 predictions for 1-1), 10 people have predicted an England victory, with a 2-1 score the most popular with 6. That leaves 7 entrants expecting a Uruguay win with 5 predicting a 2-1 win for Louis Suarez & Co.

The early kick off sees Columbia v Ivory Coast in Brasilia.  The most favoured result is a 1-1 draw with 10 predictions. Second favourite outcome is either a 1-0 win for Columbia or a 2-1 win for the Ivory Coast with 5 predictions each.

Japan v Greece is the final match of the day at 11.00pm, with 10 predictions for a Japanese win, and a similar number going for a draw.

The most ambitious prediction has got to be a 6-0 victory for Greece.

Hmmm ?  Should I make a similar offer of a bottle of champagne again should that prediction come up or should I keep it to celebrate an England victory over Uruguay ? ?

Algeria’s early penalty against Belgium scuppered the chances of no less than 21 of our teams picking up a maximum 3 points by predicting the correct 2-1 score line in favour of the Belgians.

With no one picking up a maximum 3 points, 10 people who predicted a 2-0 Belgian win were able to pick up 2 points, and only one team (All Roads to Rio) failing to pick up a point  in the first match of the day.

Mexican goalkeeper Ochoa’s heroics in keeping a clean sheet against Brazil meant that for the second game running, no one managed to pick up 3 points by correctly predicting the 0-0 score line. 22 out of 25 had gone for a Brazilian win and only 3 had gone for a 1-1 draw.

However things changed dramatically in the final match between Russia and South Korea with no less than 9 people correctly predicted a 1-1 draw between the last two teams to complete the first round of qualifying matches.

Special mention  to The Flaggers, Barkley’s Brave Harts and Pete Foster for breaking their ducks and coming up with their first fully correct score prediction.

Congratulations to Pete Foster in particular who predicted that all 48 matches would end up 1-1 !  By the law of averages the first 1-1 score line finally came up after 17 matches. The result moves Pete up to 20th place but does ask questions as to those teams below Pete who presumably gave some serious consideration to their selections ?

That leaves just three teams who have yet to successfully predict a maximum 3 pointer.

As a result the top of the table has all of a sudden become very close indeed with just 1 point separating the top five teams. Gilmore and Sarah Rowley are top, level on 24 points and both have correctly predicted 3 correct scores.

The first match of Day 7 sees Australia take on the impressive Dutch team who will be seeking to build on their impressive 5-1 demolition of Spain in their opening fixture. Not surprisingly 24 out of 25 have predicted a win for the Netherlands with 6 each going for either a 2-0 or 3-0 winning margin. Guess who has gone for 1-1 ?

In the same group Spain will be looking to bounce back against Chile and 23 people have gone for a Spanish win with the most popular prediction being a 2-0 win (8 predictions)

The late kick off is between Cameroon and Croatia in Group A.  It’s a case of loser goes home after Mexico’s draw with Brazil. Both teams lost their opening fixtures to Mexico and Brazil respectively and will be looking for a victory to keep their slim hopes of making the knock out stages alive and avoid the ignominy of being on the first plane home.

Only one of our entrants predicts a win for Cameroon (by 2-0) with 15 going for a Croatian win (8 going for 2-1) and a further 9 predicting a draw (1-1 being favourite with 6 forecasts)
