Title: Tomorrow's Game
Post by: UkrainianPhil on December 14, 2007, 10:49:22 AM
Is there a pitch inspection planned tomorrow morning ahead of our match in the Trophy?

I am hoping to get the train from York at 09.58 arriving in Alty at about 12.15 but can set off later if there is any doubt.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Its been bl**dy cold here in the mornings and a little frosty but I can't see that affecting a 3pm KO.

Officially?

It'll be f**king fine just all get down here and if a blizzard hits we'll all get pissed in the bar.

Next.

To be fair Ballers we would have done that not long ago, but a train ticket these days to Manchester/Alty from York is something crazy like £20-£25! I remember when it was a tenner, and that's not that long ago!!!!

I don't want to spend that if I am having to come back for the Tuesday night if it's rearranged!

If the game is called off we can all have a good laugh and a drink. Non league football is the best.

Phil-I can't see there being any problems today. The overnight frost is much lighter than the last two days & the match would have definitely been on if it had been Thursday or Friday. It looks like a reasonable day weather wise.

how nice of them.

Don't sound to be doing much.  Need some time on the ball and some pressure.

We seem incapable of keeping the ball by the sound of it.

apparently Moss Lane is 60 or 70 feet above sea level.  Hmmm. no wonder these chaps aren't on Radio 5.

Sounds like Graham's done his research on the way York play. Seem to be defending well.

Can't really get excited about the trophy anymore. I feel like the competition has been devalued by the fact that many of the ex-league sides and the more permanent BSP clubs with aspirations of higher things are really not interested. It is a far cry from the days of the APL where every team treated the competition with the respect it deserves.

As a result I see this as a distraction from the more important issue of BSP survival....even worse is the distraction of the Setanta shield next week. How poor to have no league game till Stephen's boxing day.

Bah humbug........

still 0-0 but not sure how.

York have been poor up front this season - let's hope that continues today.

Ahh well, can't say I'm pleased, but can't say I'm disappointed either (apart from the dosh for reaching the next round). Given our VERY limited player resources, the fewer fronts we have to fight on the better as far as I'm concerned. Top priority has to be BSP survival abd I won't be too upset if we lose next week either. As for the games over Xmas and New Year, well that's another matter entirely....Come ON ALTY

We've got no fight in us. As soon as we go behind the player's heads go down and we seem resigned to defeat. Where is the pride and desire?

Hmmmm, it is over.

Ryan Shotton Man of the Match as he had to cover 2 positions with Scott otherwise engaged marking one of their players (playing behind the front 2). "A poor Altrincham team" apparently.

Concentrate on the league now!

Can't defend, no midfield, no link up play, can't keep possesion, no penetration, no firepower. All round ballanced performance.

I think that yet again we were our own worst enemy. We were playing some good football in the first half, and possibly just edged it. Then a mad 10 minute period and we find ourselves 2-0 down, and they could have had more. We get ourselves back into it through a set piece, and they catch us on the break while were searching for the equaliser.

To sum up, if we want results were going to have to battle than play nice stuff.Last Saturday while I watched Soccer Saturday,Chris Kamara was saying Ipswich were playing the best football he'd seen anywhere this season...they were losing 3-0 at Charlton. It would be nice to play nice and win,but I'll take a gritty 1-0 anyday.
