Mckenna and Brady both got hat tricks....think Showler and Daws scored as well..maybe Gary Anderson?

I'm pretty sure that Daws was one of the players who got a hat-trick that day along with McKenna. Didn't Brady get a hat-trick in the 6-2(?)destruction of Boston the following Tuesday?

As if we scored 15 goals in two matches!

That 6-2 win at Boston United took place 11 days after the trouncing of Merthyr.
John Brady and Ken McKenna both got hat-tricks on that particular night.

In between those two fixtures, we won an FA Trophy tie at Welling by two goals to one.

Heady days!

My abiding memory of the Merthyr game, bizarrely, is that I thought Merthyr played quite well at times. They certainly weren't the sort of rabble that you put nine past. They were just quite simply blown away by one of lty's best ever teams at the height of their powers.

Is the Merthyr result still the highest Conference score?

What was the team v Merthyr?

Off the top of my head I would think the starting lineup was something like:

Jeff Wealands
Tommy Miller
Harry Wiggins
Paul Rowlands
Andy Reid
Gary Anderson
Nigel Shaw
Nicky Daws
John Brady
Ken McKenna
Paul Showler

It was that except Martin Baker did indeed start in place of Andy Reid, and played at right back too (Miller and Rowlands) in the centre.

I think he went off after about 27 minutes, I don't know why 27 minutes sticks in my head. I swear to you I don't have a match report in front of me. OR maybe it was after an hour. Unfortunately he never played for us again.

Paul Showler's goal was a wonderful solo effort.

Ballers,

Paul Rowlands didn't play against Merthyr Tydfil that day.

Andy Rooney was at right back with Martin Baker and Tommy Miller in central defence.

Alas, I don't have the time noted as to when Baker was substituted by Martin Lewis to confirm/refute your 27th minute theory....
