Title: Re: Match Thread
Post by: York Alty on November 26, 2007, 07:52:57 PM
well knock me donw with a rolled up copy of Horse & Hound.

so they are playing 5 at the back in a formation that the radio blokes cannont describe.  Hopefully we can exploit that looking for dodgy offside traps.

No. Flat back 4 (or, as GH said on the radio, 10 in the box)

We're definately having the best of the opening few minutes.

Not sure about the penalty - would have complained if it had been given against us but certainly seen them given for less.

Couple of nice touches from Little

GH watched pen replay and said no.

Goal was terrible defending - rubbish back pass chased by Little and Oliver og under pressure from Senior :D :D
Title: Re: Match Thread

perhaps they forgot we did them twice last season. A wee bit less arrogance wouldn't go amiss.

I just scared the dog when Alty scored (and nearly dropped my dinner). I calmed the dog down with a bone!  He wants Alty to score again!

They've been the better team, but Stevenage just putting on a little pressure. They have had a couple of free kicks - both dealt with.

Interesting that the chap they have giving the odds is NOT Statto (as has been at some Setanta games)

Stevenage playing like a training match.  We're getting plenty of time on the ball
Title: Re: Match Thread
Post by: Dougals Dad on November 26, 2007, 08:15:39 PM
Alty seem to be getting more time on the ball than I think they are used to.

Scotty dived in and winger went past him - easy goal
Title: Re: Match Thread
Post by: York Alty on November 26, 2007, 08:19:38 PM
sounds like two pants goals really.

Still ok here though.

Tell you what though, not much noise when the Age of Steven scored.  I know it's not easy to tell over the radio but the atmos. does sound flat.

Title: Re: Match Thread

Alty trying more long balls for the forwards (mostly Senior) to run on to. Nearly worked too!

Sounds like you should give up on the radio. Setanta chaps very impressed by Alty

BBC has Stevenage with 3 shots on target. Apart from the goal Stu has not had any threat on his goal. For Alty's performance, however, very few chances.

Their right winger (Dobson) is good, and Peyton is helping Scotty keep him out of the game so not sure Logan would go on the left when/if he comes on

Title: Re: Match Thread

David Pleat: "Alty started passing the ball well, but once thay scored they started playing too many long balls"

GH: "We went a bit deep after we scored" Need to be more clinical, have more belief,  but happy with 1-1. If he had a monitor behind the dugout he would not be going to the FA so often! Still thinks it was not a penalty, but I'm with Paul Parker with this!

Looking like Millwall all over again.

Lots of Alty friendly media coverage, a cracking performance but no result.
Title: Re: Match Thread
Post by: altrincham on November 26, 2007, 09:35:38 PM
Look good when we play it on the ground stringing decent passes together but all to often the possession ends with a hopeless high ball in to their center backs,  we need to aim it around the defenders so our small strikers can spin off them and deliver quick low balls into the box Logan and Whalley should help.
Title: Re: Match Thread

I don't understand how that's a yellow.  Either there was intent and it's red or (correctly) it's an accident and no card.

I honestly think so. They like Graham!

Alty compared to a lot of teams in this league.

GH fuming  cos its a game we should not have lost. Proved that more than good enough for this league, but got to win. Must have the belief we can win and win matches like that when we play well. Not easy to get players with no money. Can't knock  his players, Stu hardly had anything to do. Our lads back to wotk in the morning, their lads get a lie in.

Post by: louise1925 on November 26, 2007, 10:04:57 PM
I was thinking the same thing. Not only did they like GH, the lads tried to beat Stevenage at football. There was no kick and rush, just neat, flowing passing movements which were actually enjoyable to watch. Well done to the lads tonight. We WILL stay up.

Notice behind Peter Taylor during interview

"Important Notice

Quality!  Do you think there's a similar notice at Old Trafford?

I watchded the game tonight and what was apparent was our defence was a littles shacky. The goals we conceded where poor and we should have at least taken the draw from the game.
On a positive note though we put a great deal of pressure on them, and showed them that they is not that much of a difference in class, when we were up for it. Senior had a good game he was all over their defence, well done chirs.
Lets hope for a win on Saturday
