AUSSIES RETURN TO MOSS LANE

Members of the Australian cricket squad are expected to be at Moss Lane next Tuesday for the visit of a Manchester United XI (k.o.7.45pm, 4th August). They will attend as guests of Altrincham FC chairman Geoff Goodwin. On their tour in 2005 Altrincham FC were honoured to receive the full Australian squad to a pre-season match at Moss Lane, the visitors including the likes of Shane Warne, Ricky Ponting and Jason Gillespie. Next Tuesday's match is free to Alty season ticket holders and costs £7 for those paying at the turnstile, (£2 for concessionaries).

---------

We need to use the novelty aspect of this friendly to our full advantage as it's a prime opportunity to get people into our club and make some much needed money. Also, everyone who comes in should be given a leaflet with our early home fixtures on it at the turnstiles. There are no Premier League games until 15th August which means there will be plenty of people with no game to go to on 8th August. Let's try and get some of them down to Moss Lane!!

It would help if United send a few players we have heard of.

See official website, Brian Flynn has done another fantastic press release!

These press releases and accompanying photos have been one of the highlights of this close season for me.   :)

Unfortunately, having spoken to a 'contact' it is unlikely that this will be publicised "in advance" of the eventin the broadcast media.

It is highly likely however that any coverage will be retrospective

Did they say why not?

A couple of months back I saw a piece on Sky Sports about the plight of Non-League clubs. The main part of the little film was about the woman who makes the sandwiches at Bacup Borough. No offence to Bacup, the volunteers up there seemed very friendly and the sandwiches looked perfectly edible, but the piece was f**king boring.

Surely the visit of some of the world's greatest cricketers would be a nice filler at the end of the hour on Sky Sports News? Better than what they've had on previously anyway.

The comment was that the national media such as SKY, BBC etc get so many news releases such as this which turn out to not be "quite as impressive" as the Club issuing the release would have them believe. An example being that Arsenal were sending their first team to play a testimonial for some guy from Bishop Stortford. When the media arrived there wasn't a first teamer to be seen only the youth team

The concensus is that if  the visit were confirmed by the Australians together with an indication of  those cricketers attending it would be more likely to attract the media attention we yearn for

It also depends how much other news they have to report. If nothing is happening they might mention it. But it could be overshadowed by reports of Manchester City offering £500million for Steven Gerrard or David Beckham farting.
