Title: D&R Match Thread
Post by: robininstockport on February 29, 2024, 09:44:57 AM
No idea of starting 11 or formation.

A draw would be most welcome

D&R 2-2 Alty (Marriott, Gould)

Don't know why, but I fancy us to get three points from this one. Hope so anyway! 😉

Possibly because of their poor home record. A win on Saturday and next Tuesday v Dorking will put us right back in the mix.

I fancy a win, but only if we get back to 4-2-3-1.

No idea who is fit, half fit, sore, fatigued, dead.

Not sure about Marriott scoring.😁

Predicting this fixture is indeed a quandary. We need an outcome other than null points.

All games are tough, assume staying over, hopefully we get at least a point and a few players returning. Then some big games at home.

Yes. At least a point on Saturday and half a dozen from Dorking and Woking is the minimum we'll need to get in the play off picture.
Not saying we'll get it mind you 😏

I'm going for a double header this weekend as Rory's grandma is a Man Utd womens season ticket holder as indeed I am. On the Sunday by some amazing coincidence West Ham Women play United women at the daggers stadium.
What were the odds of that?
I was telling her when we booked (which was prior to the last four Alty games) she was in for a real football treat on the Saturday at least.
Will I have some explaining to do?

Really worried about this; was hoping for a loanee or two to be honest.

Aljofree captains United under 21s tonight in a team including Maxi.

I thought Maxi was on loan at FGR? Must have ended then eh? We could do with him back for a bit at the moment.

United 1-4 down at halftime. Aljofree not looking way off the pace.

Anyone see how we escape this terrible run of results? :( :(

It helps if you accept that Altrincham are not a play-off side suffering a blip but are in fact an average team who had a purple patch which launched us temporarily into the dizzy heights of fourth place.

The reason we are average is because we have not replaced decent players with better ones. The decent ones we lost include Colclough, Lundstram, Senior, Mullarkey and Mooney ( the player who returned is not as good as the one who went to Southend). IMHO none of those has been replaced by players who would launch and keep us permanently up the league.

However, Ethan Ross is a definite improvement over anyone since Stu, and his loss has been greatly felt over the last few weeks.

It also has to be asked what incentive the players have to get promotion and potentially put themselves out of work because very few, if any, are EFL standard.

The squad isn’t big or good enough for playoffs or Lge football. What needs to happen is to get a bigger squad going forward, not loanees, squad players have to be capable of stepping up into the first team not be on the bench making up the numbers.

If I am honest I always have been of the opinion that this season is a little to early to be dreaming of getting into Lge two.

We are desperate for Ross. Gould has zero presence. Straight forward pass and he kicked it out of play, which led to their second.

Missing Amaluzor’s strength, pace and direct running. Too much cutting inside.

Kossy looked lively when he came on. Mooney hasn’t been great, personally felt we shouldn’t have re-signed him, average player.

CCC has had two poor games. Need him back on it.

Should have got loan players in. We are so short in CM.

Positive was that Linney looked dangerous and had a good game.

It'll be interesting to see if we just accept our fate for the season (as the budget has run out - a very distinct possibility) or whether we roll the dice.

There seems to be obvious options available to us - the United lads like Maxi (who has been recalled from FGR), the winger Ethan Williams looks great - and what's happening with Sonny Aljofree?

Similarly to Maxi, the lad that tore it up at Bromley - Lewis Leigh - can't get into Crewe's side and seems to be running out of time to get himself another deal at Preston - now might be the time to get ahead of the market? I'd have that lad here in an absolute heartbeat.

I think Maxi is still on loan but United have him back when they want him

I see, thanks.

Hasn't been making their matchday squads, a few on social media seemed to think he was recalled.

The change in fortunes since the 'open letter' Parky issued - what do people think? Purely coincidence and a result of other factors, or does it have any bearing? My thoughts are, as always, results are a consequence of multiple factors. But the change in tone from that letter must have had one effect, and he's as much as said so in his interview post-match (we're not where we thought we were, etc.). I'm just hoping that we can turn this round with these home games if we don't then that letter will look even more hubristic than it does this morning.

Chesterfield have a poor record on plastic pitches......which should not be allowed at any level above school football in the Uk
