In addition there is a blackout on broadcasting football live between 2:45 - 5:15pm on Saturdays. There has always been a question mark about teams outside the football league however this seems to maintained nonetheless. Interestingly this was originally the brainchild of our old friend Bob Lord:
"It all started in the 1960s. Convinced by Burnley Chairman Bob Lord, Football League Chairmen joined forces to halt the airing of matches at 3pm on a Saturday. But why? Lord felt that big games being televised at that time would hurt attendances for smaller clubs, like his Burnley team.
Reasoning that people would rather watch a big game than support their local team, these Chairmen feared the potential loss of match-day revenue that could occur.
And so, based on that premise, with no real proof other than a hunch it came to pass that no match on a Saturday between 2:45 and 5:15 could be aired on TV within the UK. This has remained in place ever since, with the exception of the FA Cup final which has always been shown on a Saturday at 3pm until only recently when it was switched to 5pm in a controversial move by the FA."

« on: April 12, 2018, 10:47:29 PM »I’d be very surprised if Warrington win at Farsley but unless I’ve got it wrong I think even if we win our next two we would still need at least another 2 points to be mathematically sure as Grantham can still get to 88 points (in practice 1 with our very good GD). I suspect it will be wrapped up at either Shaw Lane or possibly more likely Grantham.spot on - and Ashton and Shaw Lane could theoretically reach 87pts (the max we could get by Tuesday) - goal difference wont officially count as a title decider until the final whistle on the last day - you never know Ashton could rack up a couple of 10-0's whilst winning all their remaining games! Interestingly the Football Webpages predicted final table has Grantham finishing 2nd on 82 pts ahead on goal difference from Warrington. Not sure it will be that straight forward but I think it will turn out that 84pts is enough. What a difference a week makes!
