Agreed!  We must not lose the fight in the players. That sounded terrible, only heard a string of passes and that was for the disallowed goal!

I have not gone today but listened to the game. Radio Robins stated that we started with 4-4-2, Sinnott is not clueless so it baffles me why he is reverting back to this formation in the last two games, sorry but we are not good enough and haven't got fit wingers to get back. I am presuming he is playing this to get the players use to having two up top to accommodate Reeves and Rankine.

We need to get 3 midfielders back in the centre of the park and for me Rankine up top. I hear on the commentary that Lawrie played out wide ??? if so then Sinnott is clueless because Lawrie is bloody awful out wide, a complete passenger.

We need to get this sorted as that sounded absolutely shocking game, sounded like there was no effort and no creativity yet again. Moult can't play in a two man midfield and that's shown in his two recent performances, he is a holding mid and excellent in front of the back 4 when we have two more centre mids.

Again we conceded from a wide ball in, what the hell do we practice in training? because we are bad at defending and taking set pieces.

Fuming, simply not good enough.

We can't play 4-4 f'ing 2! He had the chance to play a midfield of Richman, Moult and Lawrie with Bowerman and Clee as wide Players. Needs to change it before we go two down. We miss Rankine a lot!

As discussed last night, would it be that outlandish to suggesting playing reeves behind rankine? He's hardworking enough. Or using rankine on the right hand side as a wide attacking option
[I just think we are better with three midfield,  I even worry about Lawrie as the attacking mid because he doesn't work back and gives a lot of free kicks away, but without Clee or Crowther we need Lawrie central to create things. When we play with three central and two high wide forwards we still need the forwards to trek back and that's not Rankine's game and would be a waste.  I just don't think we can play 4-4-2 therefore for me it's either Reeves or Rankine with Lawrie as the attacking mid. I just feel Rankine keeps hold of it better to allow the wide men to catch up with play. However Reeves scores,  tough one but my main concern is creativity in the team. When Clee went off last night we then relied on our left back, obviously I am aware he was playing higher but we need a centre mid who creates and scores with ball winners like Richman and Moult around him. As I've said many times before a Steve Conners sort of player.]

Horrible scrapy game but they wanted it more. I still feel we are far to open 4-4-2, Clee always needs 5 or 6 games to really get going but his and Crowther's injury records are poor. Parry has been good but we have one of the best centre backs in the league in Leather at right back, we simply need him in the centre.  Dens needs a couple of games to get fit again, we need him bobbing on the overlap. I am a Reeves fan but we need 3 in midfield so I would start Rankine as he has all attributes. I would love to say we are good enough to play two up top but we aren't and last night proved it again unfortunately.  We also need to get a bit more dirty in games, I don't mean horrible tackles just more physical and we need to step out and close down higher up the pitch a lot lot quicker.

On his personal training CV at the gym it has ' injury prevention' I wonder if playing on with an apparent long lasting hip injury is ' injury prevention'?!

We battled very well yesterday and it was an excellent result. I was impressed with how Barrow played, very positive.  I would like the same formation against Halifax but with Crowther and Clee as wide players with Lawrie ( central ) behind Reeves or Rankine. I'd also go with Desmore right back as we miss his attacking threat. I'd return Leather to centre back for Parry. I think Sinnott junior needs a couple of games rest,  in-play he's still some pace behind games, but is good at set pieces I.e. freekicks and throw ins but it's not enough to warrant a starting position each week. Clee needs to get his fitness up and Crowther is deserving his position and is positive in his approach.

Surely we'd win this case now that he's still playing. The bloke has taken the pis* out of a part time club. I need to bite my tongue in the gym.

I heard a rumour that Dick isn't selecting him as he hasn't signed a new contract!

Good team - although I'm scared to death of anything other than flattening that out into a 4-5-1 these days

RF and LF still the biggest concerns long-term (due to 'unconvinced' and 'long-term fitness' respectively)

I have faith that a run in the team might just do wonders for Crowther - we'll wait and see.

* Yeah, sorry it would be a 4-5-1 but attack in that formation.  I'd expect the LF and RF to trek back and assist the full backs. You'd need a fit and stronger Lawrie to drop deep and move forward quickly in forward play. Crowther or Bowerman out right, from what I have seen both have done OK.]

Altrincham FC First Team / Best starting 11 and formation???
« on: September 22, 2015, 05:16:53 PM »
A few games have been played now but I put my hands up as I have not attended many. I simply just can not afford away trips whilst having my own gaff. From what I have seen, then my first eleven when everyone is fit would be the following:-

                                       Coburn ( GK)

Densmore (RB)         Havern (CB)   Leather   (CB)           Griffin ( LB)

                      Moult ( DM)      Richman (CM)

                             Lawrie  ( AM/CF)
Bowerman    (RF)                   Clee  ( LF )

                             Rankine (ST)

Never thought I would be leaving Reevesy out whilst he still has running in his legs but Rankine has been immense from what I have seen. We haven't had a big man who can play with his feet since Dale Johnson and he only did it in the games he chose. With Rankine we can stoll play on the floor and he can shift on the pitch.

The formation would have Lawrie pretty much up in line with the right and left forwards. Lawrie can be a game changer and his best position is central without any doubt. He has the best shot at the club and in that hole behind Rankine he can pull the strings, whether that is balls out to the wide players or slipping the striker in.

I missed our last home game but have read that our midfield was nowhere to be seen, but I was concerned before kick off seeing Moult's name on the bench. People now know how important he is but I stated he was an unsung hero a long long time ago.  Moult and Leather would be my first two names on the team sheet every week, followed by a fully fit Richman.

I have been impressed with Crowther when he has come on.

Again I am not surprised to see Sean Williams in the England C team, I always thought he did well for us. I saw his wayward passing but in this league a midfielder needs energy, pace and capable of tackling. I even stated on here after our first home game that O'Keefe failed to tick any of those boxes in the 80 mins I saw, as I put then games will pass that player by so it is a shame we did not give Williams another year.

Finally, I have to bite my lip seeing Anthony Griffith working at my gym.

Come on Alty let's go for the 3 points tonight !!!
