Altrincham FC First Team / Team for Saturday ( Densmore injured )
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:28:39 PM »
I think we will get three points on Saturday. Unfortunately I am away, gutted. With Dens out I would go with 4-4-2 to start with, higher pressing and keep wide men wide

GK) Coburn

RB Sean Williams ( not ideal but he has some pace, plenty of energy and don't think he'll get turned too often
LB Griffin ( no one else )
CB Havern
CB Leather

RW Richman ( he has the energy to close down and get back which Lawrie did not do on Tuesday, this led to their second goal )
LW Clee
CM Cavanagh
CM Moult ( plays a better game as the more advanced CM )

CF Reeves
CF Gillespie

We need our wider men to work much harder, preventing attacks and crosses. COME ON ALTY SMASH THEM !!!! GIVE NO-ONE RESPECT

Altrincham FC First Team / My first game thoughts !!!
« on: August 12, 2014, 10:35:45 PM »
Sorry I got carried away typing again ........haha

This was my first game of the new season as I do not attend pre-season games it will be hard to give a solid opinion but from what I saw tonight I thought there were positives and negatives. Thought we played better in the second half, stepped the tempo up and in patches throughout the game we passed very well, especially in  midfield.

My thoughts on the team and new players are good and bad. Ignoring the fact that he is a legend and putting history aside I feel we might need a more agile keeper. I still think Coburn is good, a great shot stopper, but his appears reluctant and maybe a lack of confidence at coming out for the ball or getting down to shots.

Defence – For me the sooner we get Leather and Havern back together the better. Marshall is still not fit enough and his distribution is woeful. I have previously said this but we need a stronger and quicker left back, I don’t like saying it but Griffin will get destroyed in this league and positionally he is poor. He only over lapped our wide man once in the whole game ( the penalty claim ). I personally think he isn’t good enough and there was no difference between him and buzz apart from a dodgy knee. I heard from pre season that Densmore has been off the boil and until he got injured he was getting beat too easily as well, it was cross after cross. I think we definitely need to look at a left back.

Midfield – Williams and Cavanagh will be our best partnership. The amount of energy Williams had was unbelievable even if he did run out of steam towards the end. Cavanagh is a calm character, which we need and will also put a tackle in. My only concern about this partnership is the big gap between them, Cavanagh sits very deep and Williams looks to run through up top, massive area between the two. There will be games in which we have to play three in midfield and that will make this partnership even more productive, but I was very impress with those two.

In the first half it seemed like we had no wide men, Lawrie and Crowther were not interested, there closing down was poor and neither wanted to take the full back on out wide.  They both appear too soft for me,Lawrie did one challenge and won the ball in the second half. We were getting battered down our right side, for me Lawrie needs a permanent rocket up his bum to stay in this team and I think he doesn’t have the energy or determination to play wide at this standard. Lawrie is only dangerous in a central role, I think he will get bullied and basically doesn’t do enough over 90 mins. Their left back was jogging past in him in the first half. Crowther looked nervous in the first half but was brighter in the second with a couple of driving runs but I still feel from one game that is a sort of player who will let his head drop, a bit too softy softy.

Forwards – Really impressed with Gillespie, what a touch that lad has and close control is excellent. Again I am sorry to say this but Perry is a waste of time, he is there to hold it up and be the muscle but his ball retention percentage is awful. If he doesn’t win the flick on’s or even hold the ball up then it is pointless. The old fashioned big centre forward died 5 plus years ago, you need pace and energy up top. You need your forwards closing down the defenders, forcing errors or even winning the ball off  the full backs like Gillespie did a few times in the first half. Perry is no where near good enough for this league and should have been released.

The physical condition of Perry and Marshall is disgraceful in my opinion, they are unfit and both over weight. Their condition alone does not warrant and team selection.

I think we showed that we can pass the ball around but we need to gain that extra energy and belief but I feel there will be a settling in period and I am not too disheartened. Sinnot please do not tinker each game unless you have too. I am still soooooo happy to be back in this league, away fans on a Tuesday night :-)

If we must play 4-4-2 then my team would be

GK Coburn ( or new keeper )
LB NO IDEA
RB Densmore
CB Leather
CB Havern

LW Clee
CM Williams
CM Cavanagh
RW Richman ( for his closing down and energy )

CF Gillespie
CF Reeves

Altrincham FC First Team / Leather?
« on: August 09, 2014, 03:41:25 PM »
Not there but sounds like we are missing Leather.  Play your best players, Leather will be more protected in this league than the conference north. First name's on my team sheet would be Havern and Leather!

Altrincham FC First Team / left back?
« on: July 29, 2014, 08:18:45 PM »
I don't go to pre season games, silly superstition,  have we got left back cover? I am worried about Griffin at this level. Just seen Cavanagh is right back or mid!

Alty in playoffs seems to be special occasions but that winning goal was something else! The last two weeks will live with me, as I sit here on my 10hr shift straight after that game I am on a high of football.  There has been some unbelievable scenes over the three playoffs. Well done Lee, I have given you grief and at times I feel you made strange tactical decisions but fautless in the playoffs and at times excellent football. To the players I have sometimes doubted the passion and hunger but you stepped up boys, everyone top drawer but I have to mention Havern and Leather, best centre back performance I've ever seen at most lane, they won everything!  I am back proud, I love this club but you will kill me. Bring on Macc!

Altrincham FC First Team / Guiseley
« on: May 04, 2014, 06:09:20 PM »
Well done boys, you well and truly gave me one of the best adrenaline rushes I've ever had. I thought we were goners.

I thought in the 1st half we played some excellent football on the floor, just missing the final ball but we worked hard and looked decent but the second half was poor. Hednesford did not respond well under pressure but we started giving them space, time and certain players just switched off. I would have took Griffin off well before their goal, I would consider starting Doughty on Saturday because I just think he and Clee are a more direct threat down the left, Doughty bombs on much better than Griffin and I don't think there is much difference in pace.

Clee must start running with it more but not central, we get better chances when he hugs the sideline and goes at them, that opens it up more for the strikers in the middle, as it proved with Reevesy header. Walshaw frustrated the hell out of me in the second half, didn't put a challenge in, until those two magical minutes and he won the ball to lay it back fro Clee to cross for Reeves and was also involved in the second. We need him to do that for the entire 90 mins which to be honest he does most games so can not really fault him.

Special mention to Havern and more so Leather, unbelievable yesterday, Scotty won every bloody header.

Due to work commitments I have not seen many away games, already used loads of my annual leave to watch the boys and currently down to work next Saturday so I praying I can get it off. From what I have seen and from last season I would say Guiseley are the best footballing team in the league so we must get tighter and start with the same intensity as yesterday.

A win would mean bigger crowds, atmosphere ( which until yesterday has been missing ), better trips away ( stay overs haha ) and Macc Town ( the chance to play those again is massive ).

Finally we need to shoot towards the Golf End in the 1st half, then towards the away end in the 2nd half. It gets the crowd going in the corner which will make a difference on the pitch when fatigue kicks in.

Alty till I die and it will be them who kill me hahah !!!!

COME ON - 1 GAME AND WE HAVE DONE THIS!!! LET'S GET AN EARLY TWO GOALS

142
I need to vent. We need to get rid of Sinnot, it's not an over reaction but we are are heartless. Nicky Clee last challenge just before the whistle, pathetic, summed it up for me. It's bollocks, we stand off and ain't fit enough! We only got tight to the black lad in the last ten mins of the first half ( let him know we are here), seen many wingers like him, we had one from loan from Morecombe,  give them time and room they'll destroy you. I must have shouted 'tight' 15 times in the first half.  Long ball again, pass caring we need a change. Softest 6ft 2 skin head in charge guy I've ever come acoss. Get some passion boys. My passion is dying and Sinnot destroys it. Apart from Richman I've not seen a hard challenge for years. Embarrassing!

143
Again we have been beaten by a team who simply wanted it more.  Sinnott is clueless, best chance to get out of this league, it is so poor. There should be no excuses, it is down to poor selections, tactics and not getting the players up for games.

It is not his fault but I just feel we will drop more points than gain with Perry up front.  With him up top we become a different team with a different playing style, which is hoof the ball up. I heard some oooo’s and aaaa’s when he won a few flick on’s but how many actually pull off????The ratio is very poor , our on the floor passing has completely disappeared in recent weeks/months and a lot is to do with having Perry up top. In my opinion he is still lazy. We have been poor for a number of games now, ignoring the Stalybridge games but let’s face it they were a Sunday team on those days.

We have Joe on loan but Richman in better out wide than central.

Subs should have been done earlier and the first two should have been Lawire for Perry ( which was eventually done but only as the last sub when we needed goals???) and Moult should have been put into a central position, not out wide.

I also think we should revert back to Dens , Luca, Leather and Griffin at the back as we are conceding too many.

Until Walshaw is fit I would start Lawrie and Reeves up top. I appreciate James can be soft at times and sometimes lazy too but his delivery is the best we have and he has the best shot outside the box.

Fuming yet again!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / We got away with that !!!
« on: January 04, 2014, 05:38:27 PM »
Well done lads for fighting until the end to collect the 3 points !!

I am all for a change in formation but it was clear after only 10 mins today that 5-3-2 was not working. Griffin was up against an excellent right winger in there number 7 and had no cover at all, as our midfielders were very central. We needed width today and would have been better off playing 4-4-2 against a well organised Lemington team. Clee can not play centre mid, the game bypasses him and then he will try a turn which he would get away with on the wing and turns into trouble. Even reverting back to 4-4-2 for the last 8 mins made a difference but that should have been changed after the first 20 mins.

Perry did OK, not sure it was a man of the match performance, however we need to start Walshaw and Reeves.  There are times when Perry holds it up but today it was pointless as we had no width so we reverted back to the long punt up field. It was scrappy and the wrong tactics . The thing with playing Perry and this is NOT his fault is we become scrappy. We don’t get it on the floor, we are a much better team when the ball is on the floor. For me Walshaw and Reeves can easily play together, not a believer that strikers can’t play with each other. If it’s a case that Walshaw and Reeves become a bit more greedy playing together then I would rather have that, because I guarantee we would score more goals with those two. Walshaw brings you energy, he’s strong, good with his head and he continually chases down which Perry doesn’t do, which means teams move up the pitch more easier and quicker against us. At times today the full backs had no-one to pass to so just kicked very high in the air.

If we play 3 at the back this would be my team :-

                  Coburn

      RCB   Havern         LCB Higginbotham
                CB Leather
RWB Densmore                     LWB Griffin
         CM Richman        CM Moult

      RCF Walshaw            LCF Clee
                CF Reeves

Let's get in contact! Has no club, even turned out for a sunday team the other week! He has PT sessions at my gym and he still is as fit as a    fiddle and bloody rapid!  Left or right wing, might be a short term deal but why not? Seems be desperate in trying to get fit.  Dying to plant the seed in his head! Come on alty lets go for it.

147
That and as previously mentioned a lack of balls in the team! Need new faces with something about them or we will filter away! This is where he needs to step up! A flaming joke result,  pathetic and embarrassing yet again!

Altrincham FC First Team / What I believe we still miss is.......
« on: September 15, 2013, 01:31:08 AM »
A LEADER!!!!

We need a Robbie Lawton,Eddie, Carmo etc.  I ain’t talking about pedigree, I am talking about a shouter, encourager, a growler basically someone who gets the other players adrenaline pumping again.

No-one can argue that we’ve got the most talented squad that we have had in years but there isn’t enough passion and determination. Their number 4 goes down injured ( fake injury ) at 2-2, I look at Jake Moult he is wiping the sweat of his head with his shirt, Buzz is shaking his head in frustration, Nicky Clee is trying to find his second half head. Reeves stood in silence looking at their 4 faking injury. I never rated Robbie Lawton or Eddie for talent but I did for grit, determination and leadership.

If we had a Robbie, Eddie, Carmo etc type of character in those breaks of play then they would be encouraging, shouting and growling at the opposition. Robbie was excellent at that, often I would see him clapping, shouting to players to get their heads up !!!!Just getting the blood pumping around the team again. It makes a huge difference, I’ve played a bit of football over the years and I always remember the tough passionate players rather than the skinny winger who dribbled it past 3 and got nobbled and spent 5 minutes rolling around.

Last season I played for my Sunday team against top of the league, they were unbeaten and I was put in centre mid with our tough midfielder. We were up against 3 good centre mids but my team mate just turned and said ‘Ollie you ready for this,it is going to be war’. People might laugh but we won nearly every ball and beat them one nil. Just having that sort of player next me, just instantly put me on that next adrenaline / playing level!

I’ve said it all through Sinnot’s reign, he knows good footballers but we have nowhere near enough determination and passion, even some anger channelled correctly wouldn’t go a miss! Luca tries’ his hardest but let’s face it, he’s too good looking to be a growler. The era of Mad dog, Talbot, Kevin Hulme etc they were not in the same talent league as Luca, Boshell etc but they scared teams. They walked on the pitch like warriors, we need a lot of that character in this team.

Here is a prime example, when I first heard about the signing of a 6ft2 muscular centre mid called Carl Rodgers I thought exactly what we need. I have never once heard Carl say or shout anything on the pitch and the only time he really had it was Burton away in the FA Cup. I think he's half decent but that's the sort of squad we have.

Altrincham FC First Team / What a difference !!!
« on: August 24, 2013, 05:38:02 PM »
That is more like it! I appreciate Stockport were poor but we played with determination and hunger, on the front foot from the start, high intensity, exactly opposite to first half on Tuesday so it was good to see!

Midfield choice was spot on. Thought Moult had a very good game, he isn’t a distributor as that's why Boshell is there, but good at breaking up play, short exchanges, plus an attacking option – spot on!

The defence were immense. Leather steps in and was solid, as for Luca he is in the group of Smith, Shotton and Ellender for me, he really is that good. I said it from day one, he just can read the game and is strong! I worry about losing him to a league club!

I may have started Lawrie up front but we did just fine. James Walshaw missed a lot of chances but one thing I have noticed is that he gets in the right position, so the basis is correct! He should still get a few.

Not sure about Smirkle but not on here to slag a player off after two games!

Excellent performance from the off !!! Just keep it going, however if we are to play Perry then we must start Clee otherwise we will become to static and long ball. Yes we did score from a long ball today but I can assure you that they will be one of the worst defences we will see this season.

Buzzing !!!!

Altrincham FC First Team / Tonight
« on: August 20, 2013, 11:16:10 PM »
First time I have seen the boys this season as I never fancy pre season.

First half we were very poor, our tempo was flat and we gave them too much room to lump balls into the box. We missed the energy of Richman / Moult and the creativity of Clee.  The midfield missed some bite.

I personally think we are not a ‘big forward man’ team, it just destroys our passing game and we are a lot better with the ball on the floor. I appreciate Perry scored but for me he was lazy and likes to wait for the ball to come to him.

Lawrie is not a winger, the lad has the best shot in the team and I would stick him up front with Reeves. I am only confident when Lawrie has the ball in and around the opposition area, he tends to lose it a lot in deeper positions, often easily pushed off the ball.

Too early to judge Smirkle but he looked nervous and unsure, let’s hope he gets fit which in turn builds his confidence. The correct decision to take him off, harsh maybe, but we go on the pitch to win.

Second half much better and I think Doughty and Clee still prove that our left side is where we create chances because Lawrie touched it about 5 times second half. Boshell stepped it up after the break and Rodgers got stuck in for the last 20 mins.

Positives are 3 points, Doughty still has the energy of an 18 year old and Luca is just immense but Saturday we need to go at County. Intensity from the off so Lawrie up front, Richman out right if fit enough. Moult with Boshell and Clee on the left.

Keep it going boys!
