For those of a particular vintage
« on: October 13, 2008, 07:28:50 PM »

I have been asked a number of times over the past month or so what Pete Densmore was like.

Younger fans who have now seen Shaun have asked whether Pete was actually as good as folk like Steve Jamieson and I make out.

Could someone help us out with any honest opinions?

"Densie" was skillful, quick, precise tackler with a touch of flair.
Phil Gardner was one of his mates, and the two of them demonstrated the Moss Lane spirit, until after PG's great game at Wembley 86 when his efforts stopped the 'corn winning the fa trophy.... that git of a 'corn manager who swapped jobs with kingy, never forgave him.... ending his alty career years early.
Pete Densmore was one of the those legendary right backs, ranked alongside Stan Allan for impact. Sad he didn't dtay longer.

Amazing isn't it that everybody mentions 'that tackle' which is also the best tackle I have ever ever seen. As Mr Gazelle says anybody who says that they've seen a better one is either mistaken or lying

oh, i thought we were discussing someone called Peter's tackle.....

Anyway, Peter Densmore get in my top alty squad of all time... (25)

Goalkeepers: George Smith, Willie Mailey & John (Charlie) Connaughton
Right backs: Densmore & Allan
Centre Halves: D Halliwell, John Owens, Mal Bailey, Nellie Dewar, Graham Tobin
Left backs: Ivan Crossley, John Davison (1)
Midfeild: Frank Peters, J King, G Heathcote, G Barrow, J Davison (2)
Forwards/Wingers: G Smith (I think), Barry Howard, Ian Morris, JJ, Frank Carradous, John Rodgers , Paul Showler, Jack Swindells.
Utility players!  Les Campbell, Phil Gardner.

Any better offers? discuss.....
this might keep the tread going for a while...

This squad would win the Conf, FA Trophy and always get to FA Cup 3rd Round, but probably always lose to the green scum!

I was of the opinion and correct me if I'm wrong, that Pete Densmore was actually a Left Back

picking nicky daws as worst player either proves you are the worlds worst wind up merchant or as i suspect, know feck all about feck all and definitely nothing about football.
nicky daws is an official legend
