Ecky,

Spot on.

Alty supporters have watched their team play 13 games at Moss Lane in all competitions to date this season and lose 10 of them.

Under those depressing circumstances, their patience and ability to keep turning up for the next game should be admired!

Dan: lets see if you can ask VofD this question more times than Jeremy Paxman had to ask that famous question of Michael Howard.

Actually, we might get a better answer off Michael Howard on this subject than VofD!

Actually, we'd probably get a better performance from Michael Howard on the right wing!

John Laidlar's site confirms that Scotty played in front of the back 3. If we have this "Holding midfielder" we still need a back 4 behind.

If we do not play Logan we can then have a more central midfield with a 4-1-3-2 formation or alternatively play a 4-1-4-1. But do we have enough fire power with 1 up front?

Alas, we don't have enough firepower with two up front at present!

Also two of your suggested team are currently injured according to JL (Whalley and Owen) so what would you have done today?

Whalley came on as a second half substitute and at least looked like a midfielder who could conjure up a decent pass.

I echo your congratulations.

However, the problem is the gap between Youth Team football and the BS Premier.

In recent years, the likes of Stephen Lunt, Kieran Lugsden, Lee Hendley and Ben Deegan were regular goalscorers for the Youth Team but never became first team regulars (for whatever reason).

Oh, and what has happened as regards the 'reserve team'?
Haven't seen a fixture/trial game mentioned for ages.

Brian,

Frankly, the revelation that I find most disturbing in your report from Torquay is the fact that you stayed in a hotel where you have to make your own toast!

Missing that access to the work expenses account, perhaps?

B@ll@x, b*gg%r, b@ll@x crap Vics.

Lets hope Oxford were just Sh1te

Oxford were desperately ordinary when they visited Moss Lane.

Once Sedgemore had equalised to make it 1-1, you thought that we could go on to win the game.

Alas, as has happened with alarming regularity all season to date, two defensive blunders presented them with a flattering 3-1 victory.

After reading the following article in the Sale & Altrincham Messenger, I thought I'd compare the first 21 Conference games of the 2005/06 season with our current league record:

NOT DEFENSIVE
"Graham Heathcote says he will not go defensive against Torquay on Sunday; they have scored 52 goals in 20 games this season whilst Alty have conceded the third highest total of goals in the league, 41. Graham said, "They are a strong side and are full of ambition. They want to get back on the Football League, so it's going to be very tough... We're going to have to go there and score if we're going to get anything from the game. People have acussed us of being negative at time this season but I've never been negative in my tactics. Sometimes we have to sit back if a good team forces us back but I would never send a team out just to defend. We have to set our stall out to combat the better teams in this league but we can't be naive like we were in the first season back in the Conference when we were on the end of some big defeats".

2007/08

Played: 21
Won: 3
Drawn: 6
Lost: 12
For: 24
Against: 41
Points: 15
League position: 21st out of 24.

2005/06:

Played: 21
Won: 5
Drawn: 6
Lost: 10
For: 14
Against: 34
Points: 21
Position: 17th out of 22.

So, despite a couple of 5-0 defeats in 2005/06, our defensive record was actually better then than it is at present, as we had conceded seven fewer goals.

Perhaps we need to become "naive" again!

It's strange that in 2005/06 we had scored 10 fewer goals.....but had accumulated six more points.

A comparison of clean sheets achieved reveals the following:

2007/08: 2

2005/06: 5.

I'm not surprised about Chris Denham. He's an exceptional player, we were so close to getting.

I've always been bewildered by why we have never signed Chris Denham, particularly a few years ago when he had drifted down to Ashton United.

He's always been a thorn in our side.

There are going to be some extremely low attendances there!

Droylsden v Farsley should pack them in on the Saturday before Christmas....

I'm not convinced by Logan by any means but it does seem a little harsh to single him out as the sole scapegoat for last Saturday's defeat, whilst conveniently ignoring our star striker's hat-trick of misses at the other end or our vanishing defence for their opening goal.

BSP: FT Rushden & D'monds 2-3 Histon

Considering it was 2 dodgy goals (of different sorts) that beat us, maybe we are not far off where we need to be.

Somehow, we have contrived to let both those teams win at Moss Lane this season via defensive blunders.
