Phil Taylor tweeted it from his own Twitter account. The journalist just read it and commented.
From the man himself:

"Reports that Altrincham FC is dead are very premature. THE CLUB is thriving. First Team having a struggle but Club strong" 1/2

Right, I see cheers.

Begs the question, does he have a point? Is the CLUB in a better position than it was 10 years ago for instance?

The team clearly isn't. My opinion is that the club might be (or might have been recently) but it won't be anywhere near as thriving if the inevitable happens this season.

I'd like Phil to come on here and give us his side so we understand the context of his comments.

I'd also like to know why he of all people are being quoted for stuff when we have a media officer.

To be fair we don't even know if this was in an interview context. The bloke might have just been speaking to Phil at the game about the club and decided to tweet it.

He himself admitted that he was wrong in thinking that he was a director. Just sounds a bit hearsay and informal to me.

Also how does the OP know who it is? Were you there at the time? Is there an article somewhere?

The guy tweeting never mentions a name or maybe I've missed something.

It's a strange circumstance as usually a fall from grace like this and back to back relegations constitutes a financial problem off the field, however from what I can gather our finances are actually relatively healthy which I guess is what he means.

In some ways you could say that this makes what's happened even worse as there's no excuse apart from poor management on the field and poor decisions off it.

something has gone fundamentally wrong for us to be anywhere near this position. For me and many others the obvious mistake was the appointment of Neil Young who has gambled on a completely new look team and lost spectacularly.

Pitch inspection 1pm. Presume both clubs would ideally want it off. Should never have been scheduled for this evening

Seems a tad early for a match where the 2 clubs are so close to each other. Can't see it being on at the moment, still frosty everywhere here.

                     Deasey

 Densmore. Cryus Hannigan. Mcwilliams

Larwrie Moult Taylor Cain

              Wilkinson

              Swift?

Or

                        Deasey

          Heathcote Cryus Hannigan

Densmore Moult Taylor McWilliams

               Lawie Csim

              Swift/Wilkinson

I think Cain is on loan?

if we're resting players I'd consider

Hannigan
Jones
Reeves maybe

Would expect Densmore to play some part for sharpness but not more than 30 minutes

Wilkinson, Heathcote and McDonald to all potentially feature.

Subject to whoever other than Clee is cup tied/ who I've forgotten

Not sure we have enough depth with all these injuries to rest anyone though.

It was more of a tongue-in-cheek comment. I've been to most games this season and there's nothing left to sugar coat

Im glad you find a funny side of this.

Best way to handle it. it gets tiring being angry after the match when you've lost every league game this season bar one.

By the same yardstick where being knocked over by a cyclist is good in comparison to being run over by a wagon maybe ?

Exactly  ;)

it was a good performance in comparison to Stockport but that's about it. I was encouraged by Wilkinson when he came on, Jones was good and Clee did alright too.

We were still very poor though and look like we could concede at any time

Good??!

Yes, in comparison to the Stockport match which was perhaps the worst of the season..which is saying a lot this year.

We were still awful today but we managed a shot so there's that.

Worse I have seen a Moss Lane perform in 35 years. School boy errors, none of the defense are good enough. Only Jones gave 100%.

The board will love to sit and do nothing until the end of the season we  need a manager now!

Dont let them escape

How many mangers out of work now would want this job firstly and are what we're looking for? You can argue for one to come in now to rebuild for next year but no manager wants (what is almost certainly) a guaranteed relegation on their CV

We're bad enough with a full side so with all these players out I can't see anything other than a defeat.

1-3 Lawrie for us

1950 att

The Chairman said they are not going to be rushed into making an appointment. That seems fair enough to me. That message doesn't seem to have got through to some people.

No one currently in a managerial position is going to resign to join us even if we could afford to buy out their contract. That means we're going to be sifting through other club's castoffs. Perhaps there are one or two good uns out there but realistically they would have to come in and see for themselves how bad we are and what needs fixing and by then it will be too late to do anything this season if it's not already.

Buzz has been Assistant Manager but I won't hold it against him. When you are an assistant you don't get to make decisions. You get to implement or execute decisions made by others. He may or may not be up to it but I think the situation is so bad there's nothing lost by giving him the opportunity.

This is it. We are going to be in the Evostik Premier League in August, everyone on here knows this and I think therefore rather than go for our 4th manager of the season we give Buzz & RL with GH until the end of the season to see if we can at least go down with a bit of pride. There is no point destroying a potentially promising new young manager with our current shambles, give the current lot until the end and then review in April for me.

Yep the season is over, we are down. Might as well give Buzz et al a chance and see what they can do with the last 20 or so games.

Harvey got sacked because the majority of players thought he was a nob and the training sessions were a joke.  To the exyent that they were better under Youngs reign.  Sacking him was fully justified.

It doesnt matter one jot who sees it out to end of season we are going down.

MD needs to prove himself as a manager and yesterday did him no favours.  Playing Goodall is last resort gear and pout McDonald up front is a farce.  Most of the players with the exception of Hannigan (who was excellant)  &  Reeves (who didnt touch the ball)  were dreadful.

How do you know that is the case with the training sessions?
