So its Alty v Congy.

They will be no pushover.  They are 9th tier (NWCL Prem) but are having a good season particularly in knock-out competitions. In addition to the CSC final they have the Macron Cup Final to look forward to against Bacup Borough on 8th May at Victory Park, Chorley.  They lie 8th in their league with 6 games to play.  They also had a great run in the FA Vase that somewhat resembled our FA Trophy efforts.

They drew a home tie against Newport Pagnell in the Semi-Final.  The scores were level at full time, but alas, Congleton lost 3-2 on penalties before a sell out crowd at the Cleric Stadium. Sound familiar?

I think I might even feel bad if when we beat them.

Virtually everything that Coco and CCC had a hand in.  I think that it may be some time before we have two players as good as them at the club together at the same time. They were class.

Maxi is the best young prospect that we have seen for a long time.  He cuts through defensive lines like a hot knife through butter and is a pleasure to watch. He reminds me a lot of Duncan.

The late equaliser and Ollie Byrne's fantastic penalty save against Wrexham brought back to me a sense of excitement that I hadn't felt since before Covid lockdown started (Who cares if it was only their reserve team).

The FAT Quarter Final game at York was magic.  I loved every single minute of it and was especially pleased that Jordan scored.

The Good Friday Away-day at Oldham generated a great atmosphere and what a last 10 minutes we had there.

We reached the Trophy Semi-Final and who didn't think after 89 minutes we were about to do enough to make our 4th trip to Wembley? Who amongst us can honestly say that they were not enjoying themselves up until that point?

On balance I have enjoyed myself and I'm not bothered where we finish in the table now so long as we don't go down.

Nijmegen is famous for its annual marches which are gruelling to say the least. Very popular with armed forces personnel .

Yes, you're right.  Also I remember travelling from Dusseldorf to Amsterdam by train in the mid-1980s and we passed slowly over a large iron bridge that had a plaque referring to it being the one made famous by the film.  It didn't impress me much at the time as far as bridges go.

This should be an adventure for anyone who decides to go.  Alas, it appears that it will be a tad too much for me to endure enjoy these days.

I see that the game is to be played at "De Camp" which is described as a Sports Park and the home of WvW Weurt.  Weurt are a community orientated Football Club based in Nijmegen and founded in 1923.  They have a large number of teams covering all age groups and abilities.  Their Senior First Team play in the Sunday 5th Division.

WvW Weurt are described on the website of NEC Nijmegen as 'Football Partners' and are one of many shown to be as such.  NEC seem to have adopted a relatively large number of smaller clubs as feeders.

I would hope that NEC are planning to play their first reserves' (perhaps with a sprinkling of first teamers).

There are some pictures of the Sports Park online and it appears to be an enclosed pitch with a clubhouse/dressing rooms at one end.

Nijmegen is about 95 miles from Amsterdam close to the German border.

I heard the song 'IOU' by Freeez a few days ago somewhere and it made me think that the tune might be strong enough to carry a chant of some sort.

Konrad did indeed play for Alty between 1951/2 and 1956/7 as a left winger but I know nothing else about him.

I was there (Wolves). It was my (first) reality check watching and supporting Alty.

PS. There have been quite a few others over the years.

From the match day programme (Saturday 22nd January 1966)

"WELCOME TO A FINE TEAM
As we welcome Cheshire League side Altrincham to Molineux today we do so with the sincerity of club to club rather than from a high status to a lower one.  Let us assure the many thousands who will have made the trip from Cheshire that there is no condescension in our greeting to a side who, without a shadow of a doubt, have already proved themselves worthy of the place they have won in the third round of the FA Cup.

But whatever the outcome, all of us in Wolvehampton will wish them well in their outstanding effort to win the Cheshire League title for the first time in their history.  Unbeaten so far they certainly seem to be on the way towards it".

1891/1903 (Not Really Sure) Altrincham

I think that if we ever relocated to the Broadheath area "1891 Altrincham FC" would be a nod to our origin and the re-connection with it.

161
I've gone with something else, as I'd hope we could do as you suggested.

AFC Altrincham

Good choice.  I have added it to the poll and reset the voting.

162
In reality I don't think that it would ever become an issue for us to worry about because the Club is registered at Companies House as ALTRINCHAM ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED.  We could probably just register the replacement as ALTRINCHAM FOOTBALL CLUB LIMITED.

Having read the comments on that Good Friday game by many Oldham supporters on their forum, it would appear that some of them would be quite happy to bury David Unsworth under a patio.

Did you see this on their forum posted by one of their disgruntled fans?

I bought two tickets last evening and the section that they have given us seemed to be filling up nicely.

I seem to recall in the 80s and maybe 9os when the opposing keeper took a goal kick the golf road would chant youve got aids and vd your not going to wembley .

One best forgotten.
