I'm guessing we don't have the wage structure though.

One might argue that we had even less then we have now when Alex Stepney signed for us. Its not always about money.

Offering the Captaincy to a player whom the Manager/Coach feels is good but has untapped potential can be the catalyst that turns him from good to outstanding.

Now I am worried because it all looks and seems to fit together too very nicely.  All of the new signings have appropriate experience and each seems to bring a quality to the team that we have been missing and looking for.  I am pleased that we have taken these lads on properly as relying on loaners can be a bit hit and miss.  I am sure that we will continue to use loan players in order to strengthen areas that need it and it would be fantastic if Man.Utd. could let us have Maxi for a while again.  I agree with MarpleAlty that Dylan Boyle would be a good acquisition at this juncture if there are a few coppers left in the pot.

Perhaps the most appropriate now given our recent signings would be Altrincham Celts.

For me the treble would be winning the league (not playoffs), fa trophy and cheshire cup

Yeah, I understand.

1. I decided that I would actually enjoy winning the play offs at Wembley more.  Our target is to get to the EFL and I would be happy to see us get there either which way.  We looked at one stage last season as if we might sneak into the playoffs and we have a good record going into them over the years.

2. The FA Trophy is essential and we came so close last season.

3.  The CSC (Sigh!).  Can lifting the the Cheshire Senior Cup be any more exciting than beating a top tier team away on their manor?  Perhaps it would be better to ask Congleton.

The Non-League Treble - The only one that really matters!

1.  Promotion to the EFL. (National League Title Winners OR win the Play off final at Wembley).

2.  FA Trophy Winners.

3.  FA Cup 3rd Round+  Beat any Premiership or Championship team (home or away).  OR

FA Cup 3rd Round+  Away tie at Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs (Any result)

Put your faith in Phil Puarkiola and CCC.

Now you mention it I remember a bit about those steps.  If they are the same ones as I think then they didn't last long because they were too shallow and most of the red material was soon dispersed across the hillock leaving just a few remnants here and there.

The compacted red stuff was brick dust/chippings gifted from Jackson's Brickworks at Oversley Ford.  It has long gone now and its remains are under Runway 2.  You might remember the 'running track' around the perimeter of the pitch was covered with the same stuff.

I was just remembering when the Away end was no more than a pile of compacted hard core covered with weeds and absolutely no terracing or crush barriers at all. You could feel the broken bricks sticking into your feet through the soles of your shoes.
Only a handful of teams ever used to bring more than a very few visiting supporters.  I remember that Wigan came to town in about 1974/5 with at least two coaches full of 14-18 year old denim and Doc Martin clad bovver-boys with scarves knotted around both wrists and their early arrival at Moss Lane led to the usurping of our regular domain behind the GRE goal.  I remember that they were generally a friendly bunch and so we set up camp as close to them in the GRE as we reasonably could.  When they chanted 'Wigan' they used to prefix it with 'Er' (sort of like Er-WIG-AN, Er-WIG-AN, a bit like some of our fans have taken to chanting 'The' AL-TY).  I think maybe a three syllable chant lends itself to be a more aesthetically pleasing sound.  Anyway...  back to the tale...
Kenny came along and placed himself within the body of Wigan fans and he began to Zigger without somehow realising that he had joined the wrong crowd.  He drew plenty of laughter and a few rude remarks from the Wiganites before being ejected from their ranks whilst uttering ‘Steady on now!’

Time to subsume the National League into EFL2 and regionalise it North & South.

I've got a feeling that Byrne will become good, he has the skills, just an upgrade in confidence and a little more aggression to be found during the pre-season.

I agree with this.

Brian Clough was of the opinion that the goalkeeper was the most important player in your team. I tend to agree with his view.

He was certainly right about Peter Shilton.  One of the best ever.

Although I think it highly unlikely, it would be interesting to know if anyone remembers this happening or remembers talk of it.

It seems he went to Aston Villa from Leeds and then... Stalybridge
