If the club cannot even sort out the PA system to keep the fans informed of who is actually playing or being substituted etc.

Ha! I thought I was going nuts because I've been standing in a different part of the ground to last season. I still have no idea who half our players are!

As previously stated I was sat in the main stand, so far away from the trouble. I would take issue with your second paragraph where you say 2 Altrincham fans ran over to trade punches with the Chester people, I hope they are not Alty fans as I would be ashamed to be associated with them. Hopefully we will have photograhic evidence of this incident and they can be charged and banned from our club for life.

Setting aside the other events of the day,  believing that the people involved were just trying to protect others and totally without prejudice

Sadly, the second incidence of aggro, following some verbal exchanges, WAS aggravated by two Home supporters who did run toward and push (not punch whilst I was observing) some Chester people.

So as a steward you say you were sat in the main stand, when the problems were in the Golf Road End?
You then witness further problems instead of moving the away fans out of OUR end?
I appreciate that you are a volunteer but I suggest that you would be of more use patrolling the Golf Road turnstiles than hanging around the main stand.
As usual you have a pop at Alty fans(the two pushing) when the problem was away fans being where they should not have been allowed to be.

ATS was in the GRE, not in the main stand.

Oh, and another thing. Why after the first scuffle were the Chester lot not immediately rounded up and escorted away? Instead, they were allowed to stand as they were, practically mingling with the Alty fans, hence the back chat, goading and Alty fans getting irate.

What was the point of the Chester stewards being there if they provided no protection at all?

Reasons why it was the Chester fans fault are quite clear. If you find yourself in the wrong end you do NOT go and stand right in the middle of the opposing fans, start singing, then goading and eventually swinging punches.

Most normal people would tell a steward they were in the wrong end, who would then quite happily move them round to the correct side. The fact they didn't do this means they brought all this grief on themselves.

This is what their forum is saying http://www.devachat.com/index.php?showtopic=73732

How can a steward punch anyone in the face, when there weren't any to be seen?

Coventry have just pressed the panic button by sacking Andy Thorn after just 3 games. Be interesting to see if their results improve.

He did take them down last year, though why you back a man through the summer and then get rid after three draws is peculiar to me.  Coventry are a club in general decline.  Are we? No.

Of course we a club in decline, last season was one of our worst ever and this season looks like being even worse

How old are you? You seem to have forgotten the Unibond years.

Had they upgraded the men's toilet to include a door?

That was relegation form today, seriously.

!!!!!!! Surely that has to be a record. 1 game into the season and it's relegation. FFS.

The footbal on display most of last year was poor and now this season has sunk to new depths already so it is not that.

Really?! Our defence was woeful, but we played some great stuff last year!

As I asked on the other thread, name one other non-league club (or even lower league club) with such draconian segregation.

I think the fans in general are slightly bemused by the fact that for some matches last season, we had segregation reaching from the away end all the way down to the middle of the popular side. This is fine in some circumstances. For example, when Wrexham brought 1000 with them a few seasons ago.

However, what I find strange is why we were doing it for games like Gainsborough? I get that there may have been local policing advice etc but this is overkill surely?
What's even weirder is why we do this now in the BSN but it was no problem for most of the time in the BSP. I'm sure we've stood right in the corner for games like York, Oxford and Millwall in the past. These are all teams with either large/notorious followings yet the original sterile area was deemed fine then by whichever local authorities/intelligence/stewards that investigated , so what's changed now??

Exactly. Even against Northwich we've been allowed right in the corner.

I'm sorry ATS, but "intelligence from local authorities, police etc". We're not City, Utd or even Stockport. We play against teams with about 20 away fans, and I don't understand why as Golfroader says we have had to change things in the last couple of years when we had virtually no problems at all before then.

I don't understand how it would cost any money - just move the fence!!

Segregation at Manchester United, two or threes covered by green netting and some stewards.

Segregation at Moss Lane, two rows of fences, a sterile area as long as anyone has seen and some stewards.

Something is not right here me thinks.

There's more stewards and police in that area thaat Altricham use in a whole season, they have the money and resources

Name one other non-league club which has such OTT segregation?

Agree completely with Ecky and Socrates. This issue has been going on for YEARS and despite numerous complaints, we are still being ignored.

Premier League clubs don't have sterile areas a tenth of what we have, it's absolutely ridiculous. The bit in the corner is a natural and suitable sterile area, anything else is overkill.

I swear if we have to put up with it again this season I am going to go ballistic.
