Fundraising - the Yankee lottery
« on: March 14, 2013, 12:48:24 PM »

On the subject of fundraising, I was thinking just the other day about the population of altrincham and A) how much the club could progress if every household paid £1 a week into the Yankee and B) how many Alty fans aren't members of the lottery and why?

I'm not one to criticise the club ( no sh*t I hear you cry ) but I do think promotion of the Yankee is one place we fall down and it sometimes seems like a secret lottery.  I know that Jenny puts a lot of work each week into sorting it all out but there is very little visible presence of it around the club.

There have been some big local winners recently, didn't we used to present a cheque on the pitch?  Nothing attracts people more to a lottery than seeing real local winners, maybe there is a reason we don't do this anymore?

My Mum won £33 on it 2 weeks ago and she see's it as a way of helping the club easily without having to do anything and having a a chance of a prize or two.

Very good point. I do a standing order for it - which is easy for anyone with a bank account to set up - and that's it. No need for a collector to come round, little effort on my part.

Potentially a big earner for the club, yet it does seem to be hidden away.  Maybe there is a reason for this?

I'm on a standing order, its easier for the club and no hassle to me, every fan of the club should be a member

Me too, can't say I miss £4.33 and if I get a cheque now and again it's a bonus. Think I've won £33 a few times. Seem to do better in the friends one, won a few more on that too. For anyone that's not sure I'd say do it.

myself + wife both have a code she has won a trebble (£50) once but like others its a way of giving cash to the club with the hope of a big win. might increase our code numbers when national lottery goes up to £2

Very true that, and a good point, a bit of slick promotion when the national lottery doubles in price could so more members, I'll leave this poll up for a week and see how it pans out.The 7 who have already said no,sy not be in a financial position to give £1 a week but just those 7 signing up would bring over £350 a year into the club. Another 500 confirmed members would bring in over £25k a year.

One thing to consider is that it isn't always straight profit. There is obviously prize money that has to go out, as well as an additional bonus for collectors when there's a winner. Collectors also receive 20% of their takings, so standing order is far better for the club.

I know it's the easiest thing in the world to makes suggestions when you're not the one who has to implement them.

However, if you could apply online then I'm sure there would be more take up.

It is something I keep meaning to do and then put off. So doing the standing order tomorrow. If anyone is at Colwyn reminds me if I've not done it!!
