... we never have!!

But two precedents for 4 wins on the bounce:

77-78 Worksop (h), Lancaster (a), Scarboro (a) (from 1-0 down with 10 men), Gateshead (h) - but followed by 3 draws and then consecutive home defeats by Frickley and Buxton.  Finished in second place a long way behind Mossley

67-68 New Brighton (h), Stalybridge (a), Frickley (a), Stalybridge (h) - followed by home draw with unfancied Buxton.  Finished second behind Macc that season.  Our first 3 home games attracted crowds of 3395, 3719 and 3812.

In terms of crowds the Stockport game was our biggest home league gate since "3000" saw us beat Barnet 4-1 on 30 April 1991 and before that 3146 saw us draw 2-2 with Wigan on 28 Dec 1974, when Everton tickets were on sale.

The last time we had more in Moss Lane in any competition than for County was 3302 against Darlington in the FA Cup on 8th December 2001, so a bigger gate than the Cup matches against Burton, Millwall and Luton

Following up on the earlier mails about Alty playing Timperley in the FA Cup in the 1930's I thought I'd look to see how often they competed and how they did.

As far as I can ascertain, they only competed in the 1930's and their full record is below:

1931-32 Preliminary Round   Timperley 3 Glossop 2;
First Qualifying Round    Marine 5 Timperley 0
1932-33 Preliminary Round   Timperley 2 Peasley Cross Athletic 11
1933-34 Preliminary Round   Timperley 0 Seaforth Albion 6
1934-35 Preliminary Round Altrincham 8 Timperley 2
1935 -36 Preliminary RoundHyde 8   Timperley 3
1936-37 Preliminary Round   Congleton Town 6 Timperley 1
1937-38 Preliminary Round Timperley 5 Colwyn Bay 0;
First Qualifying Round    Sandbach Ramblers 2 Timperley 0
1938-39 Preliminary Round   Macclesfield Town 7 Timperley 1

Altrincham FC First Team / Trivia Question

Only 3 players have scored for Alty in the Unibond, the Conference North and the Conference Premier.

Name them

Altrincham FC First Team / We will win the FA Cup in 2038
« on: May 12, 2013, 01:19:38 PM »
Three consecutive years of non league clubs being voted into the league -Wimbledon, Wigan Athletic and Alty.

Wimbledon won the cup in '88, Wigan in 2013, twenty five years later, so it is our turn 25 years from now.

What's the betting Rochdale win it instead?

Altrincham FC First Team / Leading scorers
« on: March 25, 2013, 01:03:46 PM »
Someone asked for this recently:

1. Jackie Swindells 263
2. Jeff Johnson 147
3. Graham Heathcote 147
4. Jack Helme 147
5. Walter Jones 141
6. John Rogers 133
7. Johnny Worth 123
8. Colin Little 114
9. Stuart Littlewood 104
10. Damien Reeves 101

Interestingly, Stuart Littlewood scored his 104 goals in 113 games mirroring Damiens performance.  And Jackie Swindells scored his goals in 322 games but was way better than a goal a game until the twilight of his career

I am lucky enough to have seen 7 of the top 10 score for Alty!

... has passed away.   See official site.  A great shame.

He was a brilliant strike partner for Jackie Swindells - the two of them honoured at Moss Lane relatively recently.

Altrincham FC First Team / Brackley Pitch Inspection
« on: December 13, 2012, 09:33:26 PM »

I had to leave my palatial Southern mansion and travel to Stoke today, so on the way back I left the M40 and took the six mile detour to Brackley.  It is a really strange set up - the Ground is at the end of a residential street.

Football fever has hit the town - as I could show you if I knew how to post photos in this bloody thing

I drove down to the ground and tested the pitch grass in a field outside St James Park as I could not get in and didn't feel like junping the fence (no longer physically capable). It was 14:30 so close to kick off time and it was soft on top, just about took a stud but was clearly frozen below the surface.  I could imagine areas in shadow being unplayable..

Altrincham FC First Team / The Legend Begins

89 years ago on Saturday, Altrincham claimed their first League scalp in the FA Cup with a 4 2 victory over Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park, following a 4 4 draw at Moss Lane the previous Saturday. My Great Uncle Walter, who introduced my Dad to Alty in the 40's was there!

Saturday is also 39 years since the humbling of Hartlepool and 33 years to the day since we put Crewe to the sword - November 24 th is an important Cup day in our history - lets add to it at Halifax!

Altrincham FC First Team / An Optimistic View
« on: November 18, 2012, 08:36:21 AM »
So a quarter of the league season played and we find ourselves in midtable.  Can we push on to a playoff position?

Half our defeats were against the Top 3, and I actually fancy us to do better away against them.

So look at the teams between us and playoff position:
Beaten Worcester, beaten Gainsbro, beaten Bradford PA, Beaten Boston and drew with Oxford in a game we should have won.  And Halifax we will find out about next weekend.

If this team continues to believe in itself, if the squad gets a little deeper who knows what we can achieve

Altrincham FC First Team / Can History Repeat itself?

Brian Flynn points out that the first time we were on the box and the last time an FA Cup tie was televised live at Moss Lane was Huddersfield Town in 1990 - a battling effort, losing to a club two leagues higher than ourselves.  What happened after Huddersfield?  33 games without defeat, thats what! And a team that sort of looked alright became a tight unit that swept all before them.  Watmore the new Showler? Reeves the new McKenna?  to dream, to dream!

Altrincham FC First Team / History? -maybe on Nov 3 or 4
« on: October 22, 2012, 01:04:00 AM »
I wondered if Alty had ever won 3 consecutive away matches in the FA Cup before.  Well, we have, but only ŷthe once.

I was at all 3, and in the first Peter Densmore made his debut: Chorley, Blackpool and Birmingham City.  And then of course we were drawn away again at York, so we have never won 4 away FA Cup matches in one season

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ( breathes ) ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Do you think we have forgotten the trophy semi final, you inbreds?  I have waited more than 25 years to get revenge for your cheating that day.  Justice at last!

Altrincham FC First Team / Cup Fever
« on: October 20, 2012, 12:46:53 PM »
In the 4th qualifying round and with a hard away draw to overcome to get to the league clubs.  It feels like the late 60's early 70's to me and I am as excited and apprehensive in equal measure as I was as a10 year old.

Oh the magic of the FA Cup - the greatest football competition in the world!
