Title: Fylde (H) Match Thread
Post by: MarpleAlty on December 13, 2023, 11:34:10 AM
Might be a fortuitous time to play them, given recent uncertainty in their camp - but then again, that sort of thing can galvanise teams, so we'll have to be at our best:

              Ross
Banks   Cooper   Baines  E.Jones
      Marriott  Osborne
 Amaluzor  Conn-Clarke  Newby
             Dackers

I do think Marcus Dackers could be more of a Home option, and Regan Linney could be more of an Away option, given their respective strengths leading the line.

Weather looking dry and a bit milder for most of the week.

We will benefit from having played last night, a short spell of recovery and we'll be ready and raring to go. If we can get an early goal I can see three or four.

CCC, Regan and Amaluzor amongst the scorers.

If we are on it, we should be winning & comfortably. I think another 2k home gate too. I’ll go 3-1 Alty in front of 2,356 with 102 away fans with their free coach. Good to get an update on Newby too unless I’ve missed it.

Whilst we're on the subject of Newby, I believe his loan period is up in January. Is there any news on whether this has been extended or he's been signed permanently?
I seem to have missed any developments..

On the subject of loans, do we have any United youngsters heading our way in the new year? Wouldn't be disappointed to have Maxi back...

Noticed that Hugill was on the bench for the Munich game.

Didn't really impress me in his stint with us. Nice the lad has the consolation of being recognised by another Trafford club.

6 last time out v Solihull will be a tough act to follow. I'm just hoping it's on to be honest!

Here's an interesting question regarding Maxi Oyedele...

If there's a chance we could get him in on loan again (as unlikely as it feels), do we deploy him at 10 and push Chris Conn-Clarke out to the left hand side?

No ,ccc stays at 10 for me it would mean dropping one of Osborne or Marriott in central midfield but I would fit Oyedele in somewhere even if it meant dropping a midfielder

Would like to see Linney up top and give Donawa a game, either RB or on the wing.
Front 4 of Amaluzor,  Donawa, CCC and Linney would be rapid.

That win was as much Ethans as it was CCC's.

Playoffs place at Christmas is it too soon to dream?

It's never too soon to dream!
Dreams have come true many times over my years as an Alty fan and certainly will do again.
Hopefully this season! 😉

Keep dreaming Amsterdam 👍🏆🇦🇹🤞🎅☃️

A great game for the neutral but an awful watch for an Alty fan. Once again against us, Fylde showed great heart and spirit and were a constant menace going forward.

Two perfect strikes from CCC, but for me Newby caused them no end of problems and I hope and pray we keep him permanently. Yes, Ross was awesome.

Definitely a game of two halves. A cagey first 45 followed by an end to end open second 45. Could have gone either way. There were 3 extraordinary misses by Dackers, Amaluzor and Linney though

Agree with what's been already said, but I really must put in a word for Isaac Marriott who I thought was superb this afternoon.

Fylde were awful to watch - the dirtiest team to come to our ground in quite a long time. While the referee missed very little (despite the pop side assistant being as much help as a plasticine frying pan) I did feel he should have been more generous in handing out cards ('tis the season after all!)

Yes, deffo three "my granny would have scored that" moments.
To be fair they had a few also.Great block by Baines.
My MoM was Ross.

Poor first half.Better 2nd.Think they deserved a point

Deserved win without being brilliant, fingers crossed our  best players are still with us at the end of January and Newby as a permanent or until the end of season would be good also.

Last year we'd have dropped points today.
We found a way to win and CCC and Ethan were immense for us.

Agreed. Some shocking finishing by us as well. Fylde made it a niggly game, committed a lot of fouls & tried to break it up as well they might being bottom. Ross was superb, if that was Byrne still we draw that no question.

Good after a long time off league action we got back in with a win & set us up for a top of the table telly clash at Bromley next Saturday. Decent gate too at this time of year & against tinpot opposition. Suspect we’ll be on for 3k+ vs Fax again on Boxing Day.

It was a surreal moment for me when 3C scored the winner.  I was right behind the spot that the ball bounced back up into the roof of the net and all about me seemed deathly quiet except for what sounded like a low volume distant cheer. All those around me seemed shocked to silence in the same way as I was and the scene seemed to be frozen for a second or two before an almighty roar engulfed Moss Lane.

It was a bit like when a small section of the crowd cheer when the ball goes into the side netting because from their angle it looks like a goal only on this occasion the ball HAS really gone in.

That was last season. We don’t have to do that again!

Just seen CCC’s goals from yesterday again! Extraordinary! He was quite absent in the game but like Parky says, he’s a match winner and can win any match with a moment or two of quality. Big shout out to Baines too who blocked a certain goal towards the end saving our 3 points.

I thought he was everywhere again on Saturday he's a part of most things and is invariably the pivot man for wider plays coming inside. He's a friggin' Rolls Royce though so sometimes it looks like he's strolling through games rather than racing.

Ethan, Isaac and Chris are the main cogs in our wheel and the ultimate reason we are where we are. I agree wholeheartedly about Fylde who could well have taken all six points off us . The Spireites apart the league is harder to predict than at any other time , we are going great guns and the confidence within the team growing by the game . We the fans share that confidence now and for the first time in over thirty years we can properly sense something very real and special here .

We have a VERY tough January on paper - three away ties v top half clubs (notwithstanding Southend's points deduction) and three home ties v top half clubs that have already beaten us.

Add to that the element of transfer speculation, squad rotation due to quick turnarounds etc - if we're still hanging in there after that, I'll feel very positive.

There's absolutely no comfortable games in there whatsoever.

Next game is a biggy v Bromley away. Difficult one that, especially with Michael Cheek. There again, Halifax home and away is tough. Nine points from  the next 3 and we are chasing top spot, big ask though.

I think if we can get five or more points from those three, I'd be happy.

PS. Hoping for more though obviously 😉🇦🇹
