I know this is non Alty, but I was genuinely shocked earlier to learn of the untimely death of former BBC football and rugby league commentator David Oates. I remember listening to him quite often when I was younger and he was an excellent broadcaster who will undoubtedly be sorely missed. RIP

Very sad news. I recall him commentating on united's matches for what was then gmr.  He then moved on to bigger things. A very good commentator.

This is very sad news.

I knew David when he worked at Radio Manchester (GMR as it was then). A very nice guy who was a huge Blackpool fan.......I knew him around the time that we beat Blackpool twice in the FA Cup so those games would often be the subject of our conversations.

An excellent commentator........very shocking news.

RIP David.
