Title: Darlington - Match Thread
Post by: Mrs Warbouys on August 02, 2016, 09:33:17 AM
So it's upon us, just weeks on from that tame surrender at Braintree. A new Manager and pretty much a new team. Seems like we will see a sizeable away following from Darlington on Saturday, so the impact of relegation won't be felt straight away. We usually have lesser attendances in august with folks being away, but let's hope we can muster four figures of our own giving us a decent turn out over all. Don't know what to expect from Darlington, although to win the title from the position they were in was some achievement.

--------------------------Dawber
Patterson---Hannigan-----Cyrus-----Charlton
-----------------------Goodall
-----------------Lynch-----Moult-------------
---------------------------------------------------BHC
------------------------Lawrie
------------------------Reeves

I wouldn't play Callum Charlton. Looked poor again last night and he'll be exposed within minutes on Saturday as the weak link if he plays him. I'd play Simon Garner there. He look assured and I liked his verbal contribution too. I'd also take out Hasler Gregg and play Richman , but apart from that I'd play the same team.

Dawber
Patterson
Cain
Hannigan
Cyrus
Goodall or Moult
Lynch
new loan player
Cregg
Hobson
Reeves

BHC needs a target for his pretty decent set pieces, so I'd play Hobson with Reeves.

There'd be more chance of a better home crowd if we actually advertised the game. Not even posters outside the ground yet!!

Back four is easy............Patterson, Cyrus, Hannigan, Cain

From the four games I have seen

Midfield from.........Moult, Lynch, Richman.........with Goodall in front of back four and Lawrie playing behind Reeves

OR

Moult, Lynch, Richman, Hassler-Cregg...........with Reeves and Hobson upfront

I agree 100% with your first option.

The 1st option definately looks the best option but doesn't provide much width.

Looking forward to seeing what any of our players look like.

Full backs as wing backs and hope we create more than we suffer

Guess NY will have had Darlington watched and will know what to go with

Alty 1-3 Darlington

I'm expecting them to be a good unit and coming off the back of a promotion, they have momentum.

I really hope I'm wrong, though!

Altrincham 0 Darlington 0

Team I'd like to play but it's unlikely....

                        Preston

         Heathcote Cyrus Hannigan

                        Goodall

Paterson      Moult       Lynch    Charlton

                          Laurie

                         Reeves

I've gone for Preston in goal on the basis that even though I've never seen him play I have seen Dawber.

Unfortunately that's the score line I keep getting in my head.

Although I'm still to be convinced by the management and team, one thing I will say, that will please many of the supporters who haven't attended any friendlies, after 14 years it's good to see us not defending corners with every player back!

If you've signed forms you'd be on the bench with Dawber out on loan to gain experience.

How was it?
lovely and sunny

I found the standard fairly poor

A draw was probably a fair result overall

Two points dropped I feel, and why was reeves substituted with over 30 minutes to go? Lost our shape I felt after this and Hobson was very poor. know it was warm but I felt the energy levels and closing was not as good as in pre-season.

We definitely need another striker to assist Reeves.

We definitely DO need another striker. Apparently, NY has indicated that a new player is signing on Monday.

Prefer making subs at 60 rather than right at the end like sinnott used to. Reeves had no chance of scoring, just not his style of play

Hobson won the penalty so did more than Reeves this afternoon. Reeves was marked out of the game and it was the correct decision to substitute him. Overall a draw was a fair result.
