One of my earliest Alty games. I was stood on the grass bank (now the flagged area where the club shop is) with my Dad and remember the celebrations after our winner.

Quality photo!  :)

I was there too, that one season contained so many fantastic memories, but this particular game (was it late Jan '91?) was one of the best of them.

Pictures like this let people like me who just missed out on this era see how good that 90/91 season was to support Alty.

But surely nothing can beat Gavins effort of the OG at Kettering. That is truly a picture that says a thousand words!!!

The thing which no photo could ever capture is the aura of invincibility that built up during that season. The feeling that you were coming to Moss Lane almost knowing we would win. For me, it became the yardstick by which all future Alty sides were judged, needless to say very few have even come close.

That team was truly special and deserved so much more than 3rd place.

I think that it was January 26th 1991.

Spot on, Mister Flynn.

On the previous Saturday, we had played Colchester United at Moss Lane and contrived to fritter away a two goal lead in a 2-2 draw.

If I'm not mistaken, the same pattern occurred against Kettering....until Ken McKenna's glorious last minute winner in front of the Golf Road prompted scenes of euphoria.

A truly spine-tingling Moss Lane moment.

Another thing that made this one of all-time favourite Alty moments was that Kettering had started this game a long way clear at the top. 12 points or so? Or maybe that was how far ahead of us they were? Either way, it meant that a win for us in this game was vital. But as Cult says, we seemed to have thrown it away - Kettering's two goals came within a minute of each other, the second being a terrible howler by Wealands pretty much straight from the kick-off after the first - until our glorious last-minute winner.

My memory is that it took what seemed an agonising amount of time for Ken to put the ball away. He'd rounded the keeper and then had to find a gap between the two covering defenders on the line and I'm not sure he struck it perfectly but it finally found its way into the back of the net. Cue mayhem. I was in the main stand with my Dad and I don't think I'd ever been so ecstatic. It was the moment we started to believe we could win the league.
