Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Fabulous gesture by the York City Squad
« on: January 24, 2008, 02:24:06 PM »
the magnitude of the gesture rather depends on when they made the decision though!   ;)

Irrelevant!

It's not irrelevant at all. There is a big difference between saying "if you fancy going to the game tonight we'll pay for your ticket" and saying "well seeing as you're here, we'll pay for your ticket" knowing how many fans are going to turn up.

Now we know what really happened, it wasn't exactly a "fabulous" gesture. More a nice thought. Still commendable, but not quite how the original post makes it out to be.

However, if the minibus of 8 Northwich Vics fans crashed on the way to an away game and you were all killed you know that no-one who runs your club would give a sh*t because you club is a load of corrupt bankrupt sh*te.

So I'm quite happy with the gesture thanks.

I think I'd better correct some parts of this story!

The players gave their allocation of complimentary tickets (which I assume were supposed to be for their families who obviously were not going to attend a Tuesday night away game at Grays!) to the fans who travelled on the official supporters bus (which was a grand total of 14 people).

So they didn't spend a grand of their own money, and they didn't give every single person who went a free ticket, but it was still a really nice thing to do and having spent a shedload at Alty on Saturday, it was very much appreciated.

Also, thanks for the nice comments about our club, Altrincham FC is held in a similar high regard over this side too and long may our meetings for football, banter, beers and merriment continue in the future.

Plus the fact Mark that I've you are seriously telling me that we only brought 348 fans to Alty yesterday then we have some serious talking to do about the collapse in our away support.

From being on the terrace however, there were more City fans there than last season when the figure was given as 450.

You have got to be the best day out in the Conference, another cracking day out to Alty, absolutely unbeatable.

As for the match, a shame York City only turned up for the last half hour and I had my head in my hands at 2-0 wondering how I was going to face the lads in the bar after the game! You should have put it to bed really but, strangely, I ended up disappointed with only 1 point. In hindsight, a fair result, I don't think you'll have much trouble staying up.

Thanks very much to Mr Heathcote for donating me his match programme. Are you lot sure there were only 348 York there?!?

See you next season, thanks again.

The deal seems to have been a bit of a mess.

It started off (I think) as £100,000 over 2 seasons but then it was spread over 4 seasons when the bloke at the top of the Nestle factory in York changed and they realised they couldn't afford to shell out so much money at one go.

Altrincham FC First Team / Weather/Pitch Inspection etc
« on: January 18, 2008, 10:42:23 AM »
Hello,

Obviously lot of York fans coming across to Moss Lane tomorrow BUT looking at the weather forecast for Altrincham for today and tomorrow it's "Heavy Rain" today followed by "Light Rain" on Saturday.

What are the chances of the game surviving the downpour and I assume there is a pitch inspection planned for tomorrow morning? If so, if someone could post the time of said inspection that would be wonderful because I am not shelling out £25 for a train ticket until I know that the journey is for a reason.

You may remember our Saturday game was called off 2 seasons ago.

::) shakes head at Phil and thinks surely this time we must score.

You scored once in the cup and twice at our place in the league, that's more than enough for one season Mark.

York are going for the play-offs and we really should be beating teams like these, we are too big a club for this division, shouldn't even be in it and going to these places is beneath us. Shall I include any more stereotypical phrases or shall I leave some for Cambridge United?

Alty 0 York City 5 (Sodje 18, Farrell 36, 40pen, 88, Woolford 61)

Att: 1,432 (660 from York)

We really should be beating teams like these (nods to Mark Ecky.... :D...)

Gary Scott.

That name rings a bell. Is he the one who gave away 2 comedy goals in that TV game at Stevenage when you bossed it in the first half until this guy lost his mind?

Bump  :)

Out of interest for anyone coming to the York match I'm going to be official-ing in the sponsors lounge before the game so any interviews (greatly appreciated ones) will have to be after the game. Let me know if anyone's interested, i know most of you probably have a good story or two so please dont run away on saturday when you see me with my camera ;D
I have a list of questions if anyone wants them x

Are you the girl who made that DVD about Alty?

I bought it at the Trophy game last month but haven't had time to watch it yet.

I can tell you how referees fix matches if you like, heh.

York's FA Trophy replay with Grays is now postponed giving our team a lovely rest before Saturday's match at Moss Lane, allowing key players Woolford and Farrell to recover from injury/illness.

I think the odds for a York victory have just been slashed!

We're only unbeaten in 9 and heading for promotion, Alty will win easily as usual.
