For me its Dave Gardner

How odd. There were many who were much much worse in that era. He also did his bit for the club and fundraisers off the pitch too.

It was based purely on his lack of commitment on the pitch and was not a comment on his ability or activities off the pitch

My thoughts initially turn to Ryan Hevicon....

That's a bit obscure....did he ever play in anything other than trials for us?

He appeared in the opening two league fixtures of the 2002/03 season.

Both games ended in 4-0 defeats for Alty and he never once broke into a sweat.

In his own mind, he was Maradona.

In reality, he was a prima donna.

Abject.

Pre madonna!

What did people do before she was on the scene?

Ask Mr Heslop, he was around when she gave birth to Christ, surely...

Right at the end of his time with us - Keith Russell, refusing to play at Ashton in the FA Cup to avoid being cup tied

Didn't he miss the first few abject displays thanks to the grindingly slow process of getting international clearance?

some interesting shouts there...notably len cantello who arrived in a blaze of publicity...I can remember seeing him in one game where he looked very skilful but simply got clobbered by the working man of the APL big defenders and midfielders league.....ironically he looked to have been bought in to play the graham heathcote role.....

how about nigel cleghorn?.....I heard he asked to be subbed in one the first unibond matches and wheezed to bernard as he crossed the touchline..."I didn't think it was gonna be that f****ing fast in this league"

Tony Kelly? Wonderfully talented but always looked liked he'd prefer to be watching with a pie and a pint  :D

That's because he would have rather been watching with a pie and pint...I remember clearly him about to take a corner and a fan leaning against the barrier in the corner jokingly offered him a bite of his pie....never seen a footballer drool before....

Regardless of fitness in 25 years of watching Alty, Tony Kelly is one of the most naturally gifted footballers I've ever seen.

Martin Hanchard. I remember him asking to be subed and Kingy making him stay on.

He was popular with the Shrewsbury town fans during his time there also
