Title: Non League Day - 7th October, 2017 - Rushall Olympic Match
Post by: Ashley Alty on September 10, 2017, 02:40:50 PM
Dear Alty fans,

You may have read on the official website that Altrincham FC will be one of five clubs, nationally, to have been selected by Fans for Diversity for special publicity and promotion on Non League Day, 2017 which is Saturday, 7th October when AFC entertain Rushall Olympic from Walsall.  http://www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/news.htm (scroll down to 9th September News below Phil Parkinson on the Barwell game).

The day is themed an Inclusion & Diversity day for all of the 5 clubs (apart from Alty they are, Slimbridge, Hitchin Town, Solihull Moors and Metropolitan Police)

This is quite an honour for the Club and we are building an event for the match, not just the match itself, which, of course, will be a great display of football (!) but to attract locals who may not yet have been bitten by the AFC bug as those of us on here have, we are planning activities off pitch too.  More information about confirmed activities will be announced on the AFC Twitter and Facebook page as well as on the official website but in the meantime, if you have any practical ideas which you may also be able to help with, please email the Non League Day Project Working Group at afcnld@gmail.com or message me using this forum.

The first announcement is that Alty legendary goalie and "England's Number One" Stuart Coburn will be in attendance for questions, chats and autographs  ;D

We really want the day to be a success and to show to the town of Altrincham that we are still here and have ambitions and that the fans of the club can achieve a lot for the club.

The event is also designated as a Women at the Game event, so please share the information with any and all women in your life and encourage them to sign up using the email address, womenatthegame@gmail.com when more information about meeting place and timings can be emailed back.  See the website at www.womenatthegame.wordpress.com, Twitter @womenatthegame and Facebook: /Women at the Game

We intend to invite fans of all local sports clubs along, including Manchester Storm, Sale Sharks, Warrington Wolves, Timperley Cricket, Lacrosse, Hockey, Swimming and any other sport, if you have contacts at any local sports club, please let us know.  We hope to advertise the event in local businesses, shops, leisure centre, Tourist Information Centre, slimming clubs, hairdressers, barbers but any other ideas would be most welcome (we hope that a poster will be downloadable for you to print off and display at your workplace and to email to all of your friends and family).  We want to include all members of the community whatever age, background, ability, ethnicity, gender and religious belief and we are looking to arrange a prayer room at the stadium on the day.

I am on the Radio tomorrow! You can listen online if you are not in the BBC Radio Manchester area; http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p05dpjjx
Mostly about Women at the Game but also the work as Hon. Head of Inclusion & Diversion at Altrincham FC and the above mentioned Non League Day on 7th October which is a designated Inclusion & Diversity event

So, please spread the word about Non League Day at Altrincham FC, let us have your ideas and most importantly, please come along  ;D

Nice one Jacqui, it sounds brilliant.

Given the additional media focus on the club, and the non-regulars in the ground for NLD, what a fantastic PR opportunity to link these exciting NLD initiatives to raising awareness of the shares we are trying to sell!
I imagine the extra publicity from being selected as one of the Fans for Diversity club's (and by far the biggest of the five selected) is definitely something that the club or the Sport Business won't want to miss out on.
I'd be interested to know what the club are doing to use NLD to advertise to the outside world that we are up for sale? I.e. Are we making sure that the available shares are mentioned at every opportunity in the surrounding media work? Are we going to make sure it is prominent in the NLD matchday programme? How can the fans help promote this in the run up, and on the day? Etc. Etc.

Maybe something that either one of the SLOs could clarify? Or perhaps even John or Bill themselves, given that the Press & Media Officer and Communications Director both post on here?

Well done on organising it Jacqui, and to everyone else working on it. It's great to hear us getting some positive off-field coverage for a change.
And it will certainly be good to have more than 600 in the ground for a home game.

One thing which does occur to me, particularly as you mention Warrington Wolves (but not Swinton Lions who play more locally!) is that it is the rugby league grand final at Old Trafford that evening, so there could be some benefit in having reduced admission for people who are attending that game.

Not quite sure why you need a prayer room though...

Good shout matt. A great way to showcase what is available and the club at its best. Are we due an update on what work the sports business has undertaken in marketing the club to potential investors or are they just brokers?

Dear Mr. Holmfield, thank you so much for the excellent suggestion.  There was no reason to excluding Swinton Lions, I just gave a flavour of the clubs we have thought of and would appreciate help from fellow Alty fans in contacting as many local clubs as possible and if you have any contact details at all for Swinton Lions RFL or indeed any other sports club of any sport who have a good number of spectators, please send the details to our generic email addres, altyfcnld@gmail.com please.

Good point about the Grand Final, we won't know yet who is in the final and I have tried and failed to find out the kick off time.  I have found out that there is much pre-match entertainment and hospitality for those who want it but it is definately a good shout and we will follow that up.

thank you for your suggestions, keep them coming  ;)

Apologies for my slow response Matt.

I will indeed ask the question of the board and report back as soon as I get a reply. I agree that it is a fantastic opportunity to showcase ourselves as a superb proposition for anybody wanting to invest in a football club at our level.

On the same token, making a complete success of this day will also help promote the club after the event, and is something that I'm sure TheSportsBusiness would love to publish. I will get in touch with Dom McGuiness to find out his thoughts on the matter and, similarly, report back when I hear something.

For information, Jacqui, the Grand Final always kicks off at 6 p.m. on the Saturday evening (I know that because most of the rest of my family go every year!). Given that folk will have to get to OT & find their seats etc. it might be an awkward time from our point of view.

Could we ask for a 2pm kick off to try and attract the Rugby fans who like football? Especially as you can drink during the game.

Well then, is there any remote chance of someone introducing some inclusion and diversity to the current board of directors at Altrincham FC, which comprises six white males who are all aged over 50 years...?!

Good luck with the rest of your plans for Non League Day.

I think you've been misinformed. There's no way Derek Wilshaw is a day over 25.

All Alty fans who attend tomorrow's night match against Nantwich Town will receive a token to be redeemed against a drink on Saturday, Non League Day, 7th October, when we entertain Rushall Olympic.

To remind you of what is going on on Saturday, the two match posters which also appear throughout Altrincham Hale, Timperley and Sale.

There will be a children's art competition and all primary schools in Altrincham and Hale have entered, children's face painting, live music in the hall, a Subbuteo demonstration, Stuart Coburn, Colin Little, Val Owen, Rod Thornley  and Gary Scott will be prowling around throughout the match (with possibly another former player), Richie Bentley has an international flavour to traditional match day food, free wristbands for all fans, the teams will wear special warm up T shirts (and maybe a special kit).  And most importantly, the Club will sign a pledge to be the most Inclusive & Diverse club in non league football and launch the Inclusion & Diversity Strategy.

Can you afford to miss it?  Come down tomorrow night and make sure you come with your friends, relatives, work colleagues and neighbours to Saturday's special Non League Day Inclusion & Diversity Showcase match  ;D ;D ;

Fair play to MCFC-their official Twitter account with its 4.9 million followers has just tweeted out a list of local non league games this Saturday (including ours) and asked City fans to go and support their local team-that can only help us.

Every little tweet helps, let's get a "bumper" crowd on Saturday

edit: does using the word "bumper"  age me?

If Man U do the same thing there's going to be a lot of congestion at the turnstiles at some of those Singapore A league games...

Jokes aside, if they do it would be a big boost. Well done MCFC.
