Marcus Marshall: possible loan signing?
« on: March 06, 2016, 01:09:05 AM »

As mentioned in the Chairman's article in the Robins Review for the Macc game:

"At the time of writing we cannot confirm but we could also hopefully be welcoming another loan recruit in the form of Marcus Marshall from Grimsby Town for the remainder of the season."

Attacking midfielder, someone who can bring our strikers into the game a bit. Would slot into the role occupied by Crowther yesterday.

GR also says that we're trying to extend Ginnelly's loan to the maximum possible, which is 93 days. If we're successful, I make it that he'll be with us till the Bromley game, so we won't have him for the last four matches of the season.

Why can't we extend Ginnelly's loan until the end of the season? Is it because of the terms of his initial loan agreement or something?

The way I read it, we can loan a player for up to three consecutive months (I suspect a month is defined as 31 days). Josh Ginnelly was signed on loan on January 8th, so 93 days after that would be April 9th. I think therefore we would be able to play him up to & including the game v Bromley, assuming Burnley were happy to extend the loan to the maximum period, but he would have to return to them after that game. To keep a loan player till the end of the season would require having signed him no earlier than January 28th (or possibly 29th). I think that's about the date when we signed Marcus Holness on loan, hence his availability right up to the end of the season. I think that's a general rule rather than anything particular to this specific player.
Incidentally, the club must have been pretty certain about this Marshall deal to have mentioned it openly on Saturday. Would be a bit embarrassing if it now didn't go through ...

Was hoping this might have been confirmed in time for tonight's game but it looks like it's not.

Why are we chasing a player on loan who is currently
injured. Time isn't  actually on our side here.

Haven't been able to watch Alty since November but reading the posts on here especially the ones posted by people whose opinions I respect. It doesn't make for good reading. Its time to get some players with fight in their bellies. The mantra of "nobody has any fight in them" is a common theme in the post match comments.
Ok we have had injuries but a lack of action to remedy that situation isn't an option.

Come on Alty FC we want to remain in this league . We have 11 games to sort it out. Don't lets go out in a whimper.

Seems dead in the water this one according to the men.

Before Sinnott’s departure, former Bury winger Marcus Marshall told the Robins that he wanted to fight for his place at third-placed Grimsby rather than join the club on a loan deal.

It is. The Evening News lifted that from my interview with Lee moments after the Gateshead game (see main site), in which he explains why Marshall won't be coming.
