Reminds me of the story of Peter Cook, when he was touring with Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller.  They all got paid £100 per week.  Peter Cook though appointed an agent, who got him a £10 raise.  However, his agent got 10% of all his earnings, so Cook took home £99 a week as a result.
