Title: Todays Match Thread v Crawley
Post by: markecky on November 20, 2010, 09:53:25 AM
Good luck to the lads today...we have nothing to lose.

There should be radio coverage here (although this is from the BBC so may be nonsense)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/bbc_radio_surrey

Looking at the fixtures most of the bottom six have tough games today.

Indeed, good luck to the lads today. Can't go today unfortunately, but I really hope we can get something.

Still a long way to go this season and I feel confident Kenny can lead us to safety!

Come on Alty!!!!

After listening to what Kenny had to say on Wednesday, and looking at our home fixtures for the rest of the season, I too am starting to believe we can survive. A point today would do me nicely. It's a big ask, and our record against Crawley isn't good (even when they weren't mega rich), but..............................

COME ON YOU MIGHTY ROBINS ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !! !

I've a feeling in my water about today.
I think it's their first home game in a few weeks and they will be really feeling the pressure facing a team they should beat easily (as far as their fans are concerned).
If we give it a go early and get ahead I think they will really struggle, they didn't exactly murder us at Moss Lane and we have a better team now than we had then.  Step forward Messrs Baynes, Reeves and Denham, I reckon this could be your day!!!

It'll depend on how long we can keep them our for at the start.

I think we have a goal from a free kick in us....we're due one.

Robbie Williams header from a Baynes delivery would do nicely.

As horrifying as this is to listen to, we're not going to be able to realistically compete with a team who's 4 strikers are Tubbs, Cook, Brodie and McAllister. I'm not 100% convinced the money they've got is completely legitimate but even if it is, the team they've assembled is too good for this league and it's pretty scandalous if they spend the amount of money they have and don't go up automatically.

Our fate isn't going to be decided by games against Crawley, Luton and Wimbledon, let's fire ourselves up for a very important few weeks after this. And let's hope everything goes against Bath and Hayes second half!

HT 4-0 Crawley have dominated game and deserve to lead but two penalty decisin very questionable- both balls driven against players. Same ref also contentious when we played Torquay a couple of seasons ago

It seems to be crawley's battering ram approach has worked. Quite how drilling a ball against a person's arm from a few yards away is handball, only Phil knows.
Going 1 down so soon will no doubt of hit the lad's low confidence.

Still. its only half way. Maybe we can kidnap the ref, or put something in his half time drink?

Spot on. In a week where we learnt that Northern Premier players get more than we can offer suggests to me that we should take this on the chin and move on. The fact we've been on the wrong end of some dodgy decisions should fire us up with a bit of righteous indignation for the next few weeks.

Spot on....its men against boys.

We all know it....it was always going to be.

After three years of building a team got to a level where we could hold these superstar teams for a while.  The spine of this team went and needs building again.

We simply can't compete with the big boys at the moment.

And as for Crawley, its like the harlem globetrotters.

I think Tamworth and Barrow are both gonna struggle these results are really worrying.

Though Tamworth absolutely destroying Cambridge must give us hope, surely?

Logically yes, but I always fear playing a team who are clearly going to get a bollocking from their manager, especially when they're gonna work on their mistakes all week.

FC Utd are losing 2-0 at 'home' to Hinckley in the Trophy.

Only if Cambridge have a midweek game...we are always the ideal team to play if you need to get a result.

As Ballers says, the non league Calpol.

Barrow now 1-1

FGR now 1-1

We do always seem to perform well against teams on good runs (eg, ending Barrow's 7 match unbeaten run and Fleetwood's 10 match unbeaten run). We struggle against teams who've just been battered.

Except today, where we've been mullered  :(

True, but like I said before, I think Crawley are in a league of their own.

I know they will have taken their foot off a bit but it sounds like we have been much better in the second half.

This could be important for our confidence...

Haha, great commentary, "Brighton have re-gained the lead against Bristol Rovers, actually they never had the lead, but it's 2-1 there"

oh...

Well 5pts from safety and whether 1-0 or 7-0 its still a match expected to lose.

Regroup and retry for the next match.

How the Carole Nash Money would have been better used... Got to work with what we have though cos the dream was taken away of spending that money on the current team

Feel gutted for the fans that went, and WELL DONE for going and supporting the club.

Hopefully the players \ management can use this defeat to their benefit \ motivation.. Fingers crossed.

An update on the 54pts par score table

21   Luton
20   Crawley
17   Wimbledon
15   Rushden
10   Fleetwood
8   Mansfield
8   Newport
8   Kidderminster
5   Kettering
5   Darlo
4   Wrexham
4   Grimsby
2   Barrow
2   Tamworth
1   Gateshead
-1   Bath
-2   Eastbourne
-3   York
-4   Cambridge
-5   Alty
-6   H&Y
-6   Southport
-7   FGR
-10   Histon

We are near the bottom and have less chance to gain points than others because we have easier games coming up that we are expected to get points in.  Home games against the bottom few will be crucial (states obvious!)
