Runcorn Linnets match thread
« on: April 02, 2023, 06:34:12 PM »

May as well look to the rest of the season.

So far as I'm concerned we should play a strong team, and certainly Linney (presumably no cup-tied issue?) so if it goes to pens that's at least one we should score. (I seem to remember we won about 1-0 on pens against Vauxhall!). Nothing much to play for in the league, and it'd be nice to take something from the season, it's been a while since we won a trophy.

I think it'd be nice to do a joint Kingy tribute with Runcorn, but in any case, it's about time we played them again in a competitive match. I fancy they'll be up for it.

We've still got a great chance of a top half finish for the first time in ages. That's something to aim for.

PS. It was 2-0 on penalties at Vauxhall I think.

I think you're right. Still, I don't think I've ever seen so many penalties not converted (though I seem to remember Birmingham missed all their penalties once, possibly in the days of Barry Fry). And whilst I'd like a top half finish, there's no massive pressure to rest players like there might have been, for example, if it had been played last Tuesday. I reckon let's give it a go!

Looks like a POTG. Though I know at that level e-tickets aren’t unheard of-only in Halifax. £10 adults & £7 concessions.

Plenty of attacking players on the bench for us yesterday who should be fresh for it so expect wholesale charges especially in midfield & attack. Runcorn seem a decent outfit for their level & lost the play off final to Marine last season so we need to treat them with respect & they’ll be bang up for it too.

For us regulars & traditionalists then the Cheshire Senior Cup still means something so hope we go strong enough to grab that final spot.

Whilst we're on the subject of the CSC, is there anyone for whom it would have made a difference if we'd been playing the newly formed Macclesfield club in this tie instead of Runcorn?

For me, it's a pity we couldn't play Runcorn in the final rather than (potentially) Crewe youth team or Congleton. I'd had my  heart set on a proper local derby. That's the one down side of the National League today, the relative lack of local derbies. I wonder if Rochdale could potentially develop into a bit of a derby if they go down, like with Chester? (Though I see Dale won yesterday - you never know under a new manager!).

What team do you think will be out tonight? I guess Gouldy will get an outing, Burgess as well.

Hope we really go for this one. I could do with another CSC final appearance. It's been 14 years or so hasn't it since we won it?

It is a POTG tonight… I hope we field a reasonably strong team tonight it would be a boost to the club to win a cup this season.

Thanks. I hadn't a clue what that stood for! 😂😂

No reason not to play a strong team.

Get on the front foot and get it won.

Can't make it tonight, but good luck and a safe journey to all
