Well, it's a game of opinions saint :-\

Joes performances at the moment are consisting largely of good unoticed work coupled with little moments of quality with his quick feet. This is unfortunately coupled with the fact that only (a curently slightly off the pace after injury) Col Little gets around him to play and a lack of belief by every man, woman, child, cat, dog in the ground that he'll actually score.

Last seasons problems were Colin coming to far back to look for the ball due to being isolated and no other partner up front after Robbo left. It's fair to say Joe has solved this somewhat but he isn't going to hold it up for 10 minutes at a time with big defenders clambering all over him like an Alan Shearer or Niall Quinn.

Yesterday, he did fairly weel with the huge Woozeley fouling him constantly, i was at a loss how the ref deemed eevery nudge from the gigantic Steven Rose to be a foul in comparison. ::) However, the fact that he doesn't offer much of a goal threat is putting his all round play under greater scrutiny. ANyone think Rod would have held it up better? No thought not. Hopefully big Thommo will give us an extra dimension that we've been lacking since Marcuss injury and before then Dickie Landon.

Crawley were shaky at times but they were composed enough to stop us building momentum. I think Hiley, Scully, Rendell and Peters would all get a gig at most conference sides tbh. We were good in parts but lacked a bit of surety at times, prob due to the lay off and it is one of the things where part time v full time does come into play a bit. Because of that we couldn't build momentum whcich is what wins us games.

As if today's match wasn't painful enough to watch, the regular dwellers in the Main Stand had to endure gangs of unruly and squawking children roaming all over the place all afternoon!

At times, the screeching from the young girls was so penetrating that I thought I had stumbled into a McFly concert by mistake.

What a nightmare!
Even the poor stewards looked cheesed off with trying to prevent the mob from running up and down the steps, which was a Health & Safety calamity waiting to happen.

Seriously....PLEASE....never again!

Cult,

You have had the run of the main stand over recent years, at times never mind a seat you can choose a whole row if you like. I don't want those days to come back. Moreover, i don't want to return to the sound of dropping pins.

I was sat there and thought it lent to the atmosphere a bit, they're only kids and i nioticed less swearing than usual. They're the future mate, there was more than could be accomodated in the family stand so main it is. I think if the game was a bit better they might sit still a bit longer. If only 5-10% of the youngsters who came today come even semi regularly over the years it's worthwhile.

I think the decision to let kids in for nowt the latter end of the 90-91 season, altho i thought it strange at the time, has to be one of the best decisons ever made by any football club. I genuinely feel that has kept this club afloat through the years.

Can't they be accommodated in the Family Stand in future?

Hmm, I'd have thought you'd all be desperate to take the chance to see Crawley play just in case ::) especially away from home, no money going to Chas and Aswar from this game :-\ Live every game like it's your last eh?

As put in another thread, come into the bar ubder the stand before the game, you can enter it from the street for a few and then go back out to go through the turnstyles. Alternatively, the King George does pub food about 200 yards away. Our bar will be open from 12.30 tho for you. I think.

How many you bringing, come on 100 at least?

« on: November 16, 2006, 04:58:41 PM »
Evening all,

I`m a Vics fan who pens a piece on our forthcoming away days for the NVFC programme. Can you please answer at least some of these questions.
Brave of me to come on at this point in time- there is life After Eight after all!

1- GROUND
A What year did you start playing at Moss Lane?
1910 BETTER THAN THE DRILL FIELD
B Have there been any funny/ dramatic incidents at the ground?
PROBABLY LOADS, THE RIOT THAT BISHOP AUCKLAMD (NEWCASTLE) FANS PERPETRATED WITH THE POLICE A FEW YEARS BACK WAS SURREAL
C Most memorable match at your ground?
DEPENDS ON YOUR ERA, PRE 70S ITS JACKIE SWINDELLS WHACKING GOALS IN EVERYWHERE, 70 EARLY 80s THERE'S ACTUALLY TOO MANY TO MENTION  ;D ;D FOR MOST FANS MY AGE (27) THE MATCH THAT STICKS OUT MOST IS CLINCHING PROMOTION  ::) IN 1991WALLOPING BARNET IN FRONT OF MORE THAN THE OFFICIAL GATE OF 3000.
D What is your pitch like currently?
SORRY BORED OF CAPITALS NOW

2- FANS
A What are your hopes for this season? Staying up, FGR (and others down), Macc down. 2 wins v your lot and FGR over xmas, increase in home support
B Any eccentric/ O-T-T supporters?  8)
C Are you expecting any City/ Utd fans for the Boxing Day encounter? No

E Any original chants/ rituals? See signature at the bottom
F Is there a fanzine? no
G How long have Vics been your main rivals for (assuming we are)? Alty v Macc, Vics v Witton twas always thus
H Has the rivalry become more friendly (just my opinion, perhaps?) with the absence of League meetings for 5 years and mutual support between our clubs over (proposed) demotions by the Conference?  Er, not so fussed either way, amcc are the main rivals. Certainly missed the derbys tho. Vics have lost a lot of respect for their fraudulance in going in to admin so as not to pay debts and then throwing money about left, right and centre. Also, a bit embarrassing hearing Vics say their part time and not big spenders, yeh Brayson and the gang come down from Newcastle for £150 a week ::)

3- PLAYERS/ MATCH
A Best players over the years? Jackie Swindells, everybody else is subjective. You know most of them anyway for Gods sake
B Who are the best players in your current squad? Colin Little  :) class act if ever their was one, follwed by Stuart Coburn, Steve Bushell, and surprisingly this year, Lewis Chalmers, Robbie Lawton, and Karl Munroe . oh and Bandy
C Any memories of matches against Northwich? my 1st away game at the drill field, dad was mates with a big vics fan called pete wilson, naturally we won 2-1 Davidson penalty
D What sort of attendance are you expecting when Vics hit town? Some people say 2000 but lets be realistic, our combined average attendances only just reach that and not everyone will come. Nuetrals don't go to Boxing day games like they used to in times past. Possibly the 1700 like last time we played you (2-0 Ellison, Landon) but could be 14-1500. Doesn't matter, it'll be called off cos of a cold snap anyway  >:(
E Any score predictions (for the derby at Moss Lane)? Hmm, hoem forms good, as it stands tho i'd take 1-1, no harm done.
F Best-ever manager? There's been a few, nobodies probably done as good a job on a (realtively) small budget as GH has done. The conf seemed a long way off at times these past few years

4- TOWN
D Is the name `Alty` used to refer to your town- or just reserved for the football club? both
E What is the town`s claim to fame? Being nicer than Northwich

5- FODDER
A What is the food/ drink like at the ground? Try the cottage pies, peas and gravy at the away end. As good as it gets at footy.
B Can you recommend a chippy near the ground? Barneys across the road.
C Which is the best fast food joint/ take-away likely to be open on Boxing Day? Mr. Yungs across the road is frighteningly good
D What pub anywhere near the ground could you recommend for real ale? Don't be so miserable, come into the bar under the main stand, accessible before the game, go back out to away end
E What is the best pub near/ en route to the ground for footie atmos?

Post replies on here or em to andrew@higginson8352.fsnet.co.uk

Thanks very much.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Steve Brundrett RIP
« on: November 14, 2006, 09:28:58 PM »
Like a lot of Alty fans I only know people by face rather than name. I think I know who Steve was but I'm not sure. I'll find out against Crawley I guess. If it's the lad I'm thinking of and I'm wrong he'll be surprised at getting a big hug from me on Saturday. But he's still one of us and it's a real loss.

I did notice in one of my programmes the other day that Steve Brundrett sponsors £1 a goal and 60p a clean sheet. WOuld anybody be interested in paying on Steves behalf for the rest of the season? I would throw in a few pound to cover it if anyone wants to join me. Like I said, if you don't really know someone maybe this would be a nice way of letting Steve and hios family know that he's not forgotten. Anyone?

Sometimes, at the level we play at....
Clubs like York City and Altrincham will never have 2 goal machines up front while we are in the Conference....

Come on Phil, you ol' NLL keep the faith ;)

Have some karma old boy

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Acton v Coburn
« on: November 06, 2006, 04:48:11 PM »
Yes I quite agree. The big problem Richard has is that it's Stuart Coburn, not some run of the mill conference keeper / loanee league reserve.

I'm glad for Richard that he proved what a top keeper he is for us. I was so proud of his performance under heavy physical pressure at Cambridge and I would hope that he does well in his career whilst still being sort of on call to Alty as he has been over the past couple of years. That talentless thug Marc Smith (who I played against and is a total wnaker by the way) never played at conf level and got the reviews that Richard has recently.

I have to say that seeing Coburn on the teamsheet is a reassuring site but I hope if Acko is reading this (although he doesn't strike me as the type of lad who would be reading fans forums) he knows that he's fully appreciated by Alty fans. You're a credit to yourself and the club and I hope we haven't seen the last of you in an Alty shirt (Stuarts an old man now and his back will go againa soon anyway! ;))

Not worrying Brian, we need 3 weeks off to get everyone fit and ready...just conference rule 3.4.ii states we have to lose our first game back after a gap..but it's Grays away so no change expected from that anyway.

On a slightly lighter note (Ecky)

Dear Dave,

We told you the conference was a bloody tough league, even the poor teams are clinical, you can't just throw money at strikers. It will require tactical nous. Assuming you don't balls up the playoffs....again.

Regards

Alty

Any more advice for Mr Pace regarding the conference anyone....

p.s. All this said, I really did think they might get a result at a complacent Kidderminster yesterday. I don't actually think Droylsden are that bad a side but I did gggle at them being 4 down at ht. :o

Hmm, don't get me wrong. I really don't care, hence why I think it should be posted elsewhere. I just noticed that the defensive improvement was a bit bizarre. Still, I'm glad it's cheered you lads up, have karma.

Also GW, is there any way we can get moving text in a downwards directions so I can write MACC MACC MACC?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: The Joe O'Neill Dilemma
« on: October 29, 2006, 05:32:12 PM »
It's a fair point, I too like Joe but my biggest beef with him is that he's a poor finisher. Rod isn't a bad finisher, puts away clear chances relatively well. Joe on the other hand is poor, I was totally uninterested when he went clean through the other week against Southport, seriously :P coupled with his complete lack of instincts when a ball gets knocked across the box, he's the opposite of a gaol poacher (whatever that is).

On the plus side, he does hold the ball up well, when he has someone with him like Colin. He isn't any good on his own, able to hold it up front indefinately with 4 defenders climbing on him until Lawton gets to him. In the games he was up front with Col they looked a half decent partnership. I'd say in that instance, yes we can cope with his lack of goals, otherwise probably not. But then again if we had better options altogether we'd probably have Andy Bishop or Simon Yeo or something.

The kids are finding out what a tough league this is, Hendley may be the best bet maybe not. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing Peter Thomson fit and getting a run out. I know that his reputation doesn't exactly strike fear into defenders hearts and Southport fans in particular seem to think he's awful but he's a big/huge target man with a decent shot on him. It's a bit dispiriting when we don't have any physical presence up front and I like the idea that if the ball does drop for him then the keeper might have some work to do (see paragraph 1). Just a genuine option up front rather than papering other the cracks with Younglings or Conference Rod would do.

It's been a sh*t weekend hasn't it. i'm going to give everyone some karma.  :-*

1. These AltyFC Idols posts need to start going on the 'any other business' section of the board lads  ::)

2. But as you've posted it here how have you gone from losing 21-2 each week to winning 6-2, parhaps not so much the fact you've scored a couple, maybe you play ok when you're not to busy picking the ball out of the net, but how have you conceded a dozen or so less goals than usual?
