You can't like the fact that it would help Macc significantly though!!

Serious question.
What do you make of Macc's almost miraculous turnaround?
Oh, and nice one on STUFFING Cambridge. They were some of the most arrogant sods we have come across up here.

On this occasion, I can quite happily put up with it helping Macc altho I don't think you'll need any extra help staying up. You have to hold your hands up and say Ince has done a fantastic job really. Maybe some of your players should ask themselves about their performances before he came, largely the same players are they not.

The most striking thing about your revival is the fact that you're now still 5th from bootm and you couldn't relly have garnered any more points than you have.

Got to say I'm unenthusiastic about who comes down, Torquay, Boston, Accrington - one miles away, the 2 others 2 of the most depressing towns in England that I've been too.

Bury - don't want them to come down as I think it really would kill them.

Wrexham - good as it's local but by Christ they would level conference away grounds/towns for the first 3 months

Macc - come on you know you want to.

Seriously, youo'll have seen these teams, which two are most likely to come down?

Just my view but Nicky Daws made his first team debut at sixteen and when he left us he'd played about 3/4 of his last season at no more than 70 - 75% of his capacity and was still head, shoulders, chest, in fact everything from the waist upwards above anybody else playing at the time.

What turned out not to be quite so lucrative a move for either Alty or Nick really wasn't his fault. he was an absolute hero at Bury, not missing a match for years.

I just wonder what a Nicky Daws in his pomp would generate the Club in transfer money now.

Apologies for the nostalgic ramblings folks  ??? ???

I agree entirely with you Phil, no really, Dawsy was a genuine class act. Like you say Bury signed him for 10k and he set a record for consecutive appearances taking them up a division or 2. You mention  him at 70-75% in his last season, everyone else was at 60%. More to the point,he was exceptional in his debut season and just utterly awesome in the 90-91 side. Legend.

Mister Crockett,
- kindly giving me a lift to that play-off match at Kettering in 2005. An extraordinary day!
Here's one of my all-time favourite Alty photographs:

When I was working in Lancashire a month or so ago, one of my colleagues did say that Accrington's administration is very poor!

Quite easy to believe when the whole village can neither read, write or spell.

Possibly the best quoute on the new forum thus far, roared at that. Personally I want Accrington to start a petition against it and send it here asking us to sign it....

Aaaaargh, I was going to search on the old forum for your Gateshead story. GARY, WHERE'S THE LINK TO THE OLD FORUM GONE? Can it not be accessed anymore? Many a good afternoon spent trawling through that?

WHERE IS THE OLD FORUM LINK FFS?
Anyway, the Gateshead story made me laugh so much I actually printed it out. It's in here somewhere, when I've got a bit of time I'll type it out word for word. Class.

Right, Fanfare. It is sullied by the fact that we have to come out at the same time as the oppo. It's not for them, it's for us. IS there seriously no way we can tell the conference to f off on this one and just play it when Alty come out? ALso, why over the course of the last few seaasons have we not always attacked the 'Chequers' end in the first half. Don't say we lose the toss cos I'm pretty certain that all through the 80s we used to shoot that way 1st half 85-90% of the time.

Yes, it seems a bit strange that he should be getting plaudits as local mpaper coverage should be taken for granted. However, thta was far from the case, the Messenger like a lot of the town had given up on us as a cuase. Mike has done wonders, and at a high standard of journalism too if I may say so. He has been a factor in our club coming back from the brink and altho it's not the type of thing you say face to face on a football terrace he will always be held in high esteem for that. He is also a top top man. Good luck Mike and as Pete said on TUesday there will always be abeer for you here at Moss Lane Big Man.

Just needed a rest I think, was startiong to take a lot of stick for the teams failings. Think the wear and tear of playing full back without a winger in front of him can affect full backs from time to time. I think we may have missed a slight trick ny not moving him into midfield while Busheel was injured as we needed his composure and passing abililty. He and Val did well for a spell last year (over time he's too lightwieght).

Scotty will prob start as he's doen ok but to be honest it will make little difference, it needs a real concerted team effort and positive mentality to get a result, not a mere chaneg of fullback.

Is it only me that finds myself looking at the table (our end) and running about a million sums and calculations through my head full of "what if" scenarios? Looking at the results last night and our packed and vital March fixture list - a game every Tuesday in the month for starters, what do you think we are looking at points wise?

I think we can beat Cambridge, Grays and definately Stafford at home and if we can scrape a few points on the road I think we could make it to 42-45 points. Is it enough?

No, your not the only one. My tv has page 4/4 of ceefax p326 stuck on it now whatever channel I switch to. I'm extrapolating like mad waiting for the great extrapolator (Flynny) to give us guidance.

Basically, with 4 teams going down the benchmark is 50 points. If you got that and went down you would be unlucky. That's the number of points GH has targeted for.

As such I look at the season in 3 parts

3 games v Burton, Cambridge and Weymouth
3 games v Morecambe (a), Oxford (h), Stevenage (a)
8 more games v GRAYS (actually sandwiched between Ox and Stvnge but anyway) STAFFORDD EXETER StAlbans G&N Dag & Red Tamworth ALDERSHOT.

Going into those 8 games I don't think you want to be chasing any more than 11 pts, as a team that hasn't won 2 on the bounce all season, to win 4 out of 8 would be a bit of an ask, as would W3 D2 L3. So we need 6 or 7 points from the next 6 games. Well being realistic, you would have to say that the away fixtures at More and Stev would yield nothing, the Oxford game maybe a hard fought point at home at best. That's not being defeatist but just as GH says, occassionaly you know there'll be a couple of games where you  have to bite the bullet.

Basically I think to have a chance of staying up we will need 5 or 6 points from the next 3 games (3 of which MUST come against Cambridge or else). Otherwise it really will become tough, you don't want the dogfight to be absolutely sh*t or bust. We could beat Staffs, STAlb, Tam, Cambridge but would still need us to do one thing we have not done this season, beat a decent side at home or win away at someone reasonable. It would seem the best hope for the latter would be to catch Weymuff in some form of disarray (don't know quite what the situation is really).

I also fear Grays wioll fly now they jhave their injured players, most notably Stuart Thurgood back. A point at BUrton is possible altho maybe unlikely.

God knows, we're leaving a bit late anyway.

we wouldnt jezza i realise it was a joke but if we played @ 3pm week days we would have low attendances and half the team would be unable to make the games!

So why reply to it then?

Are you deliberately trying to make this forum the most tedious one possible. Stop replying to everything you tit!

Bit of a basic thread really but just to say that I'm bored of staring at page 329 4/4 of Ceefax, there are loads of dogfights coming up, St.Albans are at home to Stafford 2mo and away at Grays on Tuesday and teams will win some and lose some (thread inspired by realising that watching soccer saturday tomorrow can only bring bad news). The fact is it will all even itself out in the end and 50 points will be needed, just look at previous years Nationwide League tables. Just need to be confident, be positive, throw the kitchen sink at a couple of teams and grab a win or two including an away one, it'll soon clear up. Unlike 1997 and 2000 I'm still happy with our attacking options, I know Col is going to get a few soon (and Joe) and when we;re throwing subs on well I'm quite happy that Senior, Thornley, McFadden andThomson can all have impacts (in 97 we were throwing on Ian Horrigan and in 2000 Mick Morrell). We're in a far bette rposition and we'll be fine.

A bit annoyed at stafford and southport away as well as Woking at home but we'll still be right. (I think ;))

He's a class act and so probably. He isn't getting any quicker though. Oh and I notice Darran Kempson has fallen down the pecking order at Crewe and ahs just gone to Bury on loan today, wouldn't he have come back to help you out Rich?

Why do they make no decision and then as soon as the ref does suddenly put their flag up as if they did?
